Who were the Funtime Animatronics? (Afton's Murder Machines)

I always got the impression that the Funtimes aren’t a band in the way Freddy’s crew are. Each character had their own separate role. Baby was a singer, Ballora is a ballet dancer, Funtime Foxy is a ringmaster, and I suspect Funtime Freddy and Bonbon are meant to be a bit of a puppet show, like a ventriloquist. It would explain why Baby’s story about Elizabeth’s fate only has her in the room, and the other kids kept leaving: each animatronic had its own room at Circus Baby’s Pizza World.

Yep, they were closer to individual attractions than they were as a package deal. It's also why they were able to be rented out, they're all able to do so much on their own. They're practically one (wo)man circuses.

Technically speaking William was the co-founder of Faz Ent. And we can presume that Afton Robotics was what they were patented under or kept. The funtimes also had their "district" which is "Circus Baby's Pizza World" so they seem to be a separate entity either competing with or under Faz Ent. You missed the most terrifying part of Cleithrophobia. At the end of the book, Grady is not only still conscious but he can see people coming in to help and subsequently running away when they realize how much trouble they'll all be in with Fazbear Co., in fact he's so desperate that he's actually glad Ballora is still trying to pull him through the pipes, because at least someone will be there when he finally dies. The worst part is that it was agreed Grady's death would be put down to his own negligence, because "obviously no adult would think to squeeze down there," with nobody knowing that Ballora, either through malice or programming, was so determined to "help" him out of the pipes that she didn't even have a fail-safe for when his arms were dislocated and his body began to pull apart

IMO the Funtime animatronics have the best overall voices in the franchise. Each voice is so unique and oozes personality. Having Ballora and Baby have calm and collected voices and Freddy and Foxy being peppy and energetic makes it more horrifying knowing they are child killing machines

Funtime foxy is my 2nd favorite character in the whole franchise.. but i dont really like their voice.. mainly the weird robotic filter that isnt even present on the other funtimes, their voices come across completely clear while Foxy's sounds like.. well a loudspeaker xD. Funtime Freddy should've had the same filter or both of em shouldn't have.. also personally i would've chosen a female voice actor but i guess scott wanted to balance out "the boys and girls".. as loose as a term as that is in this franchise given that Mangle's gender is yes lmao.

I would'nt expect afton to cheap out on the one part that he would use to mimic parents voices.. the main loudspeaker, especially when Freddy has likely the exact same one... or.. something much worse, the voice being intentional. It just uses it to further distinguish Foxy's own voice from the parents.. leaving the child to think it would be impossible for it to be anyone elses voice from their parents and that it couldn't be Foxy? But talking about lore, I like to think that the reason why we hear their voice in UCN and not SL is bc that’s the last William has heard it. The Ballora is Williams wife theory is one of my favorites in the fandom, not even necessarily because it makes much sense but just because it feels like she's been kinda shafted in the Funtimes. Of course Baby is Baby, but also Funtime Freddy got to be the face of Molten Freddy, and even Funtime Foxy got a huge glowup in UCN. Meanwhile in contrast Ballora's always felt kinda... there? You could argue she's the most threatining animatronic in SL and has the best jumpscare, but apart from that it's felt like they've never known what to do with her, despite there obviously being something there, a direction take her in (judging by her saying "Admit it You wanted to let me in." In UCN) that they've sadly never followed up on, and now I think it might just be too late. TL;DR: I feel like they never really did much with Ballora, despite there being a lot to do. (damn i didn't realize i was this much of a ballora stan lol)

balloras always been one of my favs design wise and I feel like the fact that she's like the MOST adultlike character out of like all the other animatronics really gives credit to the whole idea, its not even just the deep voice or design that gives off her adultness but also the way she speaks like no other child possessed robot. Even if she isn't Mrs. Afton i feel like her more adultlike nature could've been explored a bit more. Also in UNC puppet makes it clear all the others are like animals and very few animatronics are calm and aware like themselves, yet in SL ballora acts very calm and even sings about how she's aware of your presence. Her whole personality is unique and its sad she was just used to set up amalgamations of other characters multiple times (ennard, molten Freddy, the blob) she was done dirty.

Watching this made me realize how actually SL made to FNaF. It set up new characters both mascottes and humans, new story element, and create a new way being a FNaF game. So unfortunate Ennard was wasted as a character, doing nothing interessing other than spitting (Strange imo as considering that Ennard already existed and it go in the "real" world, it would problably caused some notable events). In pizza sim,Molten Freddy is all about them being a "big happy family". With Mrs Afton being the adult,I could definitely see her being in control of Molten Freddy,the kids putting their faith in her because she's the adult. Then there's her song,seemingly about a dead child and a father grieving and throwing himself into his work instead of spending time with her. In UCN,she even says (to Afton) "admit it,you wanted to let me in" ,which both parallels her song and implies a relationship between her and Afton. Plus,Clara and Ballora have opposite colour pallets. Beyond that,Ballora just has to be possessed (otherwise she wouldn't want to leave), and I think people prefer the idea of her ghost being Afton's wife rather than it being a missing kid.

I feel like Sister Location was where we got a major shift in William's personality. Not only was he suddenly made the focus of everything, and any hope of ever delving into the victims of him lost, but I feel like he turned into a generic "Mad scientist." Where it seemed before (At the very least in The Silver Eyes) that William suffered a psychotic break thanks to the death of his son, Crying Child, and started killing kids to rebuild his family, both the Fourth Closet and Sister Location portray him as more of a mad scientist. And I find that REALLY unfortanute! Because William's speech he gives in The Silver Eyes has to be the best villain monologue I've EVER heard, and the line "Because I am one of them!" Has to be one of the most chilling lines in story. The thing is in THAT story, William isn't JUST a psychopath, his mind is literally so broken he can't tell right from wrong. And in my mind, that's ALOT scarier then "Generic Mad scientist version 66666!" Because you can reason with someone who wants something, but you can't reason with someone who genuinely will never be able to understand that what their doing is wrong. And that's what made William Afton so scary. At least to me.

I think the "Ballora = Mrs Afton" theory just came about when people started noticing that Mrs Afton wasn't in the game, and they kinda latched onto the only adult-presenting, female-presenting character that was actually present. Although... thinking about it, I guess someone could argue that the Funtimes are all representative of the Afton family? Mike being the Foxy Bro, and Freddy being CC? Still, I quite like GiBi's video on the subject, which kinda nips a lot of those theories in the bud.

THEORY TIME: I think all of the different Funtime animatronics repersent a different Afton, and I think I've figured out which one is which!!!! Circus Baby is of course Elizabeth Afton, she's possessed by Elizabeth, and she looks similar to Elizabeth, and in The Fourth Closet, it's revealed Circus Baby is what Afton wished Elizabeth was like. Ballora is probably Mrs Afton, as her song lyrics really do seem to fit a women married to someone so obsessive about everything besides his family. It's also weird she's one of the only adult humanoids in the FNAF franchise. I don't know if Ballora is particularly possessed, however, I think she's at least inspired by Mrs Afton. Funtime Freddy I think represents William himself. Sadistic, cruel, and maniacal at the thought of killing kids. Plus always accompanied by Bon Bon, just like how William always wore his Bonnie suit. I think Funtime Foxy might be meant to repersent C.C. Hear me out, Funtime Foxy almost never speaks, just like how C.C stays silent through most of Sister Location. However, in UCN, it's revealed that Funtime Foxy is a ringleader of sorts, just like how C.C's death caused William to snap. Thus, he was the "Ringleader" of the kids deaths. Also, it's interesting how Funtime Foxy kills you for not being on time for his show, just like how C.C died because niether of his parents bothered to watch him and Mike on his birthday. And where's Mike, you might be asking? Well, I don't think Mike would get an animatronic. Because he's not part of William's perfect family. Mike is, at least in William's eyes, the one who murdered his darling youngest son. But these are just my thoughts, what do you think?

I'm most likely going to get a lot of flak for saying this but I think the Funtimes are the only variation of animatronics who's personality not only doesn't make them less scary but actually makes them more scary(well except Funtime Foxy and Chica). The thing about giving the animatronics personalities is that by trying to humanize them it makes them less scary, which is a problem in a survival horror franchise(its like wanting to fix the Glamrocks, but by doing so it would trivialize SB and kill the game's fear factor), its pretty much a double edge sword imo. For example Funtime Freddy's personality makes him terrifying because he clearly loves what he does, and I find that scary, because again he enjoys what he does, its like a sick game to him(kind of like Freddy Kruger or Chucky). And while yes a lot of the personalities are great(as someone who's been a fan of FNAF since the first game Glamrock Freddy easily stole my heart with his personality), its just hard to be afraid of most of them has a result.

For a long time, I didn't really like SL. I don't really even know why. I think mostly because of the two new out of nowhere animatronics, where Chica is nowhere to be seen and Bonnie is reduced to a hand puppet. I never even bought it until this past month when I was playing through the games for a friend for the 10 year anniversary. They mentioned how this game was one of their favorites. I played some of the nights, and I realized this game was genuinely really good and had an interesting story to tell. Yeah, I had watched a playthrough of it before, but it wasn't very memorable to me like all the other games had been. I'm really glad I gave it a second chance.

Also, I don’t think you mentioned Afton Robotics, LLC. at any point in this video… That’s a big detail that never really went anywhere. FazBear Enterprises: *FazBear Entertainment, Inc.* act like they KNOW who William Afton IS and what he DOES/has DONE… Instead of firing him, arresting him, or anything like that-FazBear absorbs his Company. There’s the pizzeria under Henry’s house in the books-it’s FULL of the “Sound-Illusion Disks”; which are also in all of Charlie’s toys. (The “power module” we remove from F.Freddy in :SL, and the secondary “power module” on Bon-Bon.) We then see a “recreation” of the End-of-Night room where we watched *The Immortal & The Restless* and now *Freddy & Friends: On Tour* in the Utilidoors/basement of the PizzaPlex. But then in RUIN, we saw the remains/RUINS(?) of CBEAR where FazBear has “acquired” or built their OWN S.C.U.P./Scooper…

I mean if the blood is oxygenated, the brain can survive without the lungs. Thats why we do chest compressions when someone’s heart stops beating, there is still oxygen within the blood and we become a manual heart by doing chest compressions to get oxygen to the brain. So… theoretically if all the extra blood in your brain from being upside down was oxygenated, you would survive after being crushed. Sorry for this information, but obviously I am not sorry enough not to share it. (Oh and the medical community has stopped recommending rescue breaths when doing CPR except for in the case of drowning victims. That is why I didn’t mention it.)

I do think the changed recommendations have more to do with communicable diseases and getting more people to do first aid than with actual use. Because realistically, once you pump the blood through their body enough times, it is no longer oxygenated. The oxygen got used. So not doing rescue breaths does eventually lower their chances of survival. But I think it’s that, by the time rescue breaths actually become necessary, their chances of survival are already low enough that it’s generally not worth potentially catching a disease from them.

I already liked Funtime Foxy because I've always been a Mangle girlie, but ever since the _voice reveal?_ Ough, in LOVE. Honestly, WASTED potential. There's just SO much you could write for a character with such a personality. Just imagine a stage. A human character wants to get in a play, does something bad that plays into the theme of the story, and Funtime Foxy appears as a symbol of that theme (like with the story 'Dance With Me', where Ballora is obviously a representation of guilt). It really felt like the Funtimes were made to mass-produce Remnant for Afton by bringing terrified kids to the Scooper to be gutted, and that he'd later use all of that to make the Pizzaplex and all that killer random merch from the books using new souls, disconnected from the original ones. The Blob to me clearly was meant to be an amalgam of all the animatronics/souls from every game Pizzeria Simulator and before. The fact that the story is now trying to say that Burntrap wasn't actually William Afton makes everything so needlessly complicated, unless the story is trying to say that William himself really didn't survive the PS fire and is also part of the Blob, but his actions caused echoes of him with all these Glitchtrap/Mimic things that merely used the resources from the Funtimes to continue the trend of doom.

actually I believe the animation Ballora is doing in HW2 (as seen at 8:44) is actually something called Fouettes, not pirouettes, fouettes are similar to pirouettes but the kicking of the leg provides the momentum whereas pirouettes are self-contained momentum from the original kick off, and fouettes are also notably more difficult as you have to keep your balance through throwing your own momentum.

5:16 Ballora is a humanoid that I just like. Mostly because, she is a ballet and I’m not a fan of ballet. (Unlike clowns) Her renders are good and her spider one is definitely the best renders. I may have not gotten jumpscared by Ballora in base SL but, it’s really cool so, props to that. Her voice lines are fine. And her story is pretty eh. You could say that she is mrs Afton but, I hard disagree. (The inspiration is definitely a possibility) I like to think she is chill and just wants to dance. I really like her gameplay where you have to listen to her music. And that’s surprising because, I usually sucks at sound type gameplay. Overall, she’s a good character

It’s also an amazing detail that the Freddy and Foxy “Variants” of the Funtimes are full of mechanics and codes from older robots… Funtime Foxy’s “glitches” in light-literally came from the Gen ~2 robots in FNaF2, and even the Gen 3 “Toy” robots would stop working right after being tampered with. Funtime Freddy was said in one of the Files books or somewhere in one of the games to have been built from parts of the Original Freddy-following up from HandUnit’s speech about “…the closure of Freddy’s…”

Knowing Fazbear Entertainment, I'm sure that they got rid of the guy questioning Afton's design choices because besides the small issue of serial child murder, Afton was their Cash Cow, the only one left after Henry Emily had to be such a crybaby and leave after his daughter died. Yeah, it was tragic BUT it's not like he couldn't have another kid while raking in the dough for them, right??? Anyway, even though I do love the Glamrocks, the Funtimes will always be my favorite set of Animatronics. It's a combination of their backstory, their look, and how the Aftermath of Sister Location was Handled. Yes, they were finally Free but their Michael Afton Edgar Suit quickly rotted away so they ended up living in the sewers. The sewers were still better than The Facility but Baby's awful personality and confirmed blood connection to the killer who imprisoned them in the first place meant that she had to Go and Go she did. Unfortunately, Funtime Freddy wasn't exactly stable enough to be the Leader they needed but he was still better than Baby...for a while. I think that by the time of Pizzeria Sim, Ballora and Foxy were just completely Over It but since Freddy was the most Powerful and having a grand old time, they were Stuck. Not enough to miss The Facility or Baby but Stuck all the same. So, when they ended up in The Alley, all 3 of them were happy to be there. Not only because they could fulfill their programming, they could do it in a controlled environment with people who would fix them as best as they could. Safe from the Elements and still away from Baby, they would be okay. Even Scrap Baby showing up wasn't a problem because she was basking in being Scraptrap's Favorite Creation, just like Elizabeth used to be William's Favorite Child so she wouldn't be annoying them after teaming up to kill kids like old times. Once they figured out that it was a Trap, they were still happy (sans Freddy) because if they couldn't kill kids, then they just wanted to be Free and knowing that Baby wasn't gonna get her way for the last time must've felt fantastic, even when they ended up in UCN because they had their bodies back, they were away from Freddy, AND they could kill someone forever, over and over. To me, The Blob is a mass of Agony, free of the Souls while leaving behind the pain they endured. If anyone is still in the clumped spaghetti, it's likely Funtime Freddy who never wanted to stop his Ways so there's his Happy Ending. All in all, the fate of the Funtimes is the closest thing we can get to a full set of Afton victims turned robo killers having a firmly rooted Happy Ending and that makes me very happy. Only Glamrock Freddy got a better Ending and maybe, hopefully Glamrock Roxy.

Things I think and wanna say. 1. Something that I wished happend was that the funtimes didn’t fuse to become ennard but rather just escaped the facility as themselves so they could do what they want, and at some point Funtime Freddy himself becomes molten Freddy. 2. I feeling like ennard’s potential was a bit wasted sense he’s only seen in the fake ending and he’s hiding inside Michael, a part of me wishes that ennard made himself animatronic shell and didn’t scoop Michael. 3. If I could do anything with ballora I would actually make her one of the good animatronics (like the puppet, glamrock Freddy and Roxanne) and have her villain role replaced by Funtime Chica. 4. Funtime Freddy is honestly my 2nd favorite version of Freddy behind Glamrock of course, if I could do anything with him I would change him to be 8 feet tall and huge. 5. A part of me kinda wishes that circus baby either became her own villain or had a change of heart where Michael manages to somehow change the kill programming in her rather than have her be a follower of afton, also if I could do anything with Eleanor I would make her the agony of Elizabeth afton who is the evil one. 6. A part of me always believe that William somewhat intended for Elizabeth to get killed by Elizabeth, Elizabeth says he made her just for her and it’s very possible that William only said to stay away from baby just to trick her and use some kind of reverse psychology. In all honesty the Funtimes were one of my most favorite group of animatronics, although a part of me feels like they were a bit rushed and misused, I’m glad they got more screentime in help wanted 2 but I just wish we got more of them.

There's also a fan theory regarding immortal and the restless that the wife isn't necessarily meant to represent Mrs. Afton but rather Michael. And that Vlad gaslighting his wife into thinking things are normal is a metaphor for how Afton gaslights and lies to Michael about what's really going on with the activities his father engages in. (Murder, Experiments, Cover Up) This is more supported when you consider there's a lot of dialogue or additional information showing Michael is constantly questioning things or being generally suspicious of his father and what he's told is actually happening.

In my opinion I always thought the Funtime Animatronics were possessed by the kids circus baby kidnapped in the novel trilogy. Since their personalities and behavior reflect the Funtimes. Ron was always with a little girl, name Lisa and he would do what she suggested (Funtime Freddy and BonBon), Jacob would stay stay far from the rest, and kept to himself in the dark corner (exactly how Scott described Funtime Foxy and how it behaves), and Alana, an older girl who was sorta motherly to the rest and noticeable wore blue(Ballora) and Circus Baby, we know who she is. I prefer to believe this because it makes no sense that these robots didn’t kill some children.

I kinda always got the impression the funtime’s Don’t actually kill the victim, but are a transport mechanism that allows William to finish the job at his desired location. After all, if the robots DID kill the victims themselves, Afton doesn’t get anything out of it, and the robots would be possessed like Baby is. I’m more inclined to believe the Elizabeth incident was just a freak accident, or she suffocated inside as William didn’t know she was in there until it was too late.

2:49 my favorite animatronic/Fnaf character. And yes, I do like TFC version too. (Hot take moment) I really like her clownish design. Her renders in AR and HW2 are pretty cool. Her jumpscare is probably her worse part but, it still works for what it is. Her voice lines 97.9% Carries her. Its very calming and persuasive too. Her voice lines are so calming that I got insides scooped out 🫠 Her gameplay while may not seeming to have one, I consider her voice lines to be her gameplay and it works! (Except for night 4 every time you reset then, you have to re-listen to her 🫠) The lore once again carries her. (I’m going to say MY interpretation of her lore) I mean, she was pretty made for the daughter of William Afton (her creator)..which the robot also killed his kid and she possessed her. Also, she develops two personalities, one AI other Elizabeth. She most likely planned to use the other funtimes to go inside of William. (Which worked but, they used the wrong perosn) I’m not gonna go over Scrap baby, TFC or 8-bit baby. (Would type more but, I want to comment about everyone else)

After I saw this video, I discussed the lore a little with my friend and he mentioned that there's a high possibility that William intended to program Circus Baby not to target Elizabeth, but didn’t/couldn't update her before she grabbed Elizabeth. (Basically he said that William wanted to update Baby to not see Elizabeth as a target) Is this plausible or confirmed? Personally, I find it unlikely knowing William, but this franchise's lore has surprised me multiple times.

I like how Afton somehow has this huge undergroud facility that he couldn't have built alone, and people don't know about it. And giant assassin robots that we know had outsiders review from the (That wasn't what we were curious about, Mr. Afton) scene. And some people have died in said facility. But no one ever thinks "We should do something about this guy something's not right with him." Scott is a perfect example of why you should brainstorm with other people when writing. Otherwise you write something that sounds ultimately absurd. Scott didn't have someone tell him "Uh, that sounds kinda silly." so now we're here.

While i do and will always love Baby i do love the ways the rest of the Funtimes use of the uncanny, they are all just as robotic and life-less as the orginal FNAF animatronics but the subtext of their desperatation to leave and the little glimpses we get of Ballora and Freddy's personality make them have the perfect balance of robot and human probably in the whole franchise

The more I see about the fun times the more I grow to like them. From their design and definitely even more so from what they were designed for. Something about those blueprint reveals always intrigued me. Imagine going so in depth with your kid capturing animatronics that you let one control another so they can get them alone AND make it impossible to notice them getting captured/offed. That’s so fascinating but also terrifying in reality 😂

One thing I really appreciate about Scott Cawthon is that he put so much effort into not rehashing the last game with his sequels. You start out with the horror that these creatures aren't inherently malicious but on one level are just following their programming, and on another are seeking revenge. Getting to the point where the robots became actively bloodthirsty should have been the lazy option but instead resulted in these great characters with complex motives. It might be a shame that we don't get the time that we would have wanted with certain characters, and that we're in such a hurry that certain mysteries never get answered, but you gotta appreciate the creativity that goes into each major iteration of the haunted band, even going into Security Breach.

I also love the touch of using each character’s respective jumpscare to switch focus to each! Also fun(time) facts: Funtime Foxy actually is referred to as “they” in Help Wanted 2 and is kind of in FNAF World but just in name; Adventure Funtime Foxy is just Toy Foxy (fixed Mangle) with a different name (I’m sure you knew this), Funtime Freddy was originally German, and the Funtimes set an amazing precedent in the franchise by being the first animatronics to have personalities, voices (besides Foxy’s humming and BB’s lines), and unique jumpscare noises for each; at least they did in Sister Location.
