One thing I loved about Lucha Underground was it stayed in one spot. Or stayed put for a season or two and didn't move around. I think that's probably better for the wrestlers, less stress going across country, but also because the temple itself felt like a character. With the focus on stories and the specific stunts they did by using the area I could buy the place was essentially a sacrificial site and out for blood.

What I loved about LU was how they modernized wrestling with the stories, both lifelike and scifi both. They knew that everyone knows wrestling is scripted and predetermined, so they added the cool and outlandish stories to spice things up. That is something a lot of current companies aren't doing. Others are still trying to act like wrestling is real which takes away from the entertainment aspect when we know it's all fake.

Man, I remember watching Season 1 and 2 back in the day when Lucha was going up against golden era NXT. You could just feel the passion and love for the craft with every match and it has some great storytelling with the more cinematic vignettes. Part of me always hopes Robert Rodriguez or whoever had creative control for LU reaches out to the promotions mentioned here (except WWE, since Vince doesn’t like to play nice with others😂) and bring it back with a cross promotional event. On another note, it’s pretty depressing that when it came to covering the LU alumni in WWE all I could do was just shake my head and think “they’re holding all these guys back”. Doesn’t help a majority of them are gone from the company now😔 Regardless, Lucha Underground will always live on in our memories and with each of the amazing workers🔥

Azteca underground debuts today! I am excited to see how it will be. It's a shame like Lucha Underground couldn't survive for it made me like Pro Wrestling again. The one thing that hurt any idea is either lack of money or greed. I believe Lucha was hit with both and the Wrestlers suffered. I'm glad they were smart enough to fight back. Lucha Underground was the one show I could get invested in. I dropped off of WWE due to the PG era, and coming back, it still feels too clean, soulless. AAA felt like Central American WWE and NJPW is too outrageous for me. Lucha Underground was full of heart, and knowing that Robert Rodriguez was the producer, it made sense that it was vibrant, full of life and outrageously serious. Knowing more of the behind the scenes stuff though, it's sad that it had to fizzle out instead of dying when it was at its peak. This show will have a place in my heart for igniting my love for pro wrestling.

Unless the WWE is sold & broken up I don't know if we will ever get good, long lasting wrestling again. Awesome video , my favourite promotion of all time and IMO the best wrestling show of all time..the writing , the visuals just sets it apart from everything else. but when you talk about the part and what happened and go into why it ended...there is a few key very important things missing , most notably the hiatuses in between seasons which is what played a HUGE part in why the talents were upset with the contracts because they were waiting around for like a year and incase of season 4 it was a 2yr wait before the show came back and with no LU it made no sense for them to stay locked to the show and this was brought on by the one that caused all of those issues but is rarely mentioned and this is Univision , the parent company of El Rey Network at the time and the one who gave them the money which was then used to budget their shows , Univision is really what caused the fall of Lucha Underground because they cut the budget in season 4 which forced LU to do what would take 3-4 months down to having to shoot an entire show in a single month.

Man I came here to relive LU, and you did a great job taking me back. But you made a comment that was off to me. You said when you got back into wrestling in 2015 via NXT one of your favorite characters was Solomon Crow. How? He debuted and did absolutely nothing? I only remember seeing him one time. Unless you were at the house shows watching him job to Bull Dempsey.

Amazing show. Too bad it was short lived. If you want something close to this, MLW has some of the same characters on their show, and is incorporating El Jefe in their storyline

After WWE and WCW fell apart at the seams with so many greats leaving, the fights looking less exciting and the fake McMahon Family Drama at that time (specifically where Shane "took control" of WCW and Stephanie took over ECW;) my love for wrestling died for several years. Then, I came upon a review made by ERod: The Blockbuster Buster talking about something called Lucha Underground; a new wrestling series set around Mexican Masked Wrestling...and I was intrigued. After watching the review, I went to check out the show for myself online (because i didn't know if we had El Rey Network on our channel list) and...I LOVED IT! Everything about LU was so much better than what WE had! Better wrestlers, better stories, better conflicts, better athletic skills and Dario's role was far more charismatic than what Vince gave us. Then, After the events of Ultima Lucha 4...both the show AND the El Rey Network just died out without explanation

I loved this show wish it would of been able to stick around. Was hoping AEW would tinker a bit with the cinematic stuff at least 1 match a week or just with certain wrestlers. It would be fun to get stuff like that for people like Abadon, HOB, even Matt Hardy could of did better with it had it not been a pandemic. Could be something they could do on rampage since it's taped

Lucha Underground was NOT a wrestling promotion, it was a tv show with AMAZING wrestling. There IS a difference.
@WrestlePod2 жыл бұрын
What's the difference then?
@TonyHookedonVanlife2 жыл бұрын
@@WrestlePod Lucha Underground was filmed just like other tv shows, like a sit-com in front of a live audience, only for LU, the audience is visible & ostensibly, part of the show. The wrestlers are hired the same as actors & are paid for their work, which would take place over a series of days or weeks. Episodes are filmed, they play their roles, which in this case include actual wrestling matches or vignettes, promos, etc. When on-site production is done, the wrestlers(actors) go on to other projects, the post-production process begins, editing, adding sound effects, overdubs, etc. There is no touring, there are no live events at your local arena, etc. It is a television production that includes amazingly talented athletes(and if one was to do some digging, I would be 100% sure they each were required to have their SAG{Screen Actors Guild} card, as Hollywood is a heavily unionized environment). They shoot their footage, edit it, & it is released as episodes in a season - JUST LIKE OTHER TV PROGRAMS. The ONLY reason WWE even still counts as a "wrestling promotion" is they still do tours, live events, etc. on an on-going basis, as terrible as their tv product is(NXT was awesome when HHH was running it). It's quite plain to see & understand.

Easy answer. LU was that great when Impact/TNA died (end of 2013, beginning of 2014 when AJ/Sting quit because of the pay cuts) and before AEW appeared (with All In as consideration, let's say in 2018) and Impact went back to be part of AXS group. El Rey Network never really believed in the project so much, and it's a terrible decision for them, as it was the project which was giving them the most of ratings.

The only way I could see this amazing product coming back is under the wing of another promotion. If it’s a side product under something like aew the wrestlers can work more than the one hour tv show and actually earn a living. The other plus side to that is they can mix and match talent on the shows.
