Michael J Wilson said at the Craig press conference they spent 18 months/2 years looking for a new Bond. Interviewing 200 people. Craig apparently the only actor who they offerred it to. As they have not started looking yet, it looks like a 2026 release.

Brosnan (by 1994), Craig, Dalton & Moore had done a lot of film work before Bond. They had starred in a lot of films so could carry a film. Although Craig & Dalton were still unknown. Lazenby struggled. After seeing The Forth Protocol in 86, believe Brosnan could have carried Bond from 87. He had also starred in a TV series.

Craig's star was definitely rising when he got the Bond gig as he was in Spielberg's Munich [released shortly after he was announced as Bond] and was in the first Lara Croft which was a big hit at the time as the [for want of a better term] 'Croft Boy'! Layer Cake certainly made people take notice of him [which is allegedly the film which made him the No1 choice]. He wasn't yet an A-Lister but was on his way and that is the sort of actor I expect Eon to be looking at. What has changed compared to 2005 is the amount of franchises around-Eon have said they want someone with no franchise commitments which rules a lot of people out [such as Henry Cavil now he's re-committed to DC] so it's more than likely another 'up and comer'.

@@jamesatkinsonja I thought he was good in Layercake, he was also good in Sharpe in the early 90s, I don't remember him much in Munich, from what I've seen of him he's been good with the exception of Bond, I just didn't like his portrayal

@@jamesatkinsonja Craig said he could pick & choose roles pre Bond. So reluctant to accept Bond. At nearly 40 doubt he would have become an 'A' lister without Bond. Would have continued being a face some people recognised but didn't know his name. Couldn't see him going onto a Sam Neill esq level.

He was offered Thor in the MCU a few years later but had to turn it down because Bond was such a big commitment but if [sliding doors moment] he wasn't doing Bond...

One thing that makes this current gap in bond films extra special is the induction of Bond Actor No. 7. (exceptions aside) So certainly this is a major decision for Bond history.

I noticed Jack Lowden in Fighting with Family. I instantly thought he'd fit the role very well. He's got a certain charisma and screen presence. Plus he's got a similar appearance to Daniel Craig. That could either work for or against him. I like Aiden Turner as well but he so strikingly similar to Dalton that I can't imagine him being more light hearted. Great list though. My only disagreement is Taron Egerton. Fantastic and talented actor but I don't think they'd take him as he's too well known. Just my thoughts though.

They could appoint an actor in his mid 40's. He could still play Bond into his late 50's. Actors now look a lot fitter & better than a 1985 Moore. As well as still being handsome. Craig would have looked too rough in his late 50's. But lots of other actors wouldn't. But the films would have to acknowledge that Bond is older. Which would enhance the films.

Interesting choices. Aiden Turner is also my favourite, this man in And Then There Were None just screamed of Bond material. However he comes across as too gritty and even though I would love to see Bond get gritty, it is time for a breather. Henry Ellis is a good shout and yes, he can be cynical and gritty, but he has the humour. For my wild card choice; Rupert Grint… yes Ron Wealsey himself. Maybe he is too well known, but for some reason he can be a humour filled Bond.

(IMHO) My personal fave, Henry Golding, does not seem to be such well-known quantity like Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan. Whatever _tone_ the next batch of films may take, it is a given that they will be released every _third_ (or fourth) year, thus placing more premium than in the past (e.g. the 1970s) on the age of the would-be Bond 🎥

A direction they could go is an older Bond. I know Moore was very old in AVTAK but they still tried to make a normal Bond film & didn't acknowledge his age. If Harrison Ford & Liam Neeson can be old action heroes....

NTTD was pretty much an 'old Bond out of retirement' film with an actor in his early 50's so I doubt they'll want to do that again straight away. The tradition is to do several films with a new actor so that also rules it out.

@@jamesatkinsonja Craig did look old in his last 2. But his tenure was still a Bond in his 30's to early 50's. They have also done the 'rookie Bond' with Craig. Said in another post they could have a Bond from 45 onwards. Actors can still look good in their late 50's & espescially mid 40's these days. Moore still looked good in Octopussy & that was the 80's. The films could acknowledge the age, once the actor is 55+. Maybe have Bond use his experience to help him more,rather than his physicality. Cavill will be in his 40's soon & may be perfect. Suspect BB will do something unexpected. As with Craig.

@@adamcollins915 Bond does tend to cast actors roughly in there late 30's/early 40's to get a few films out of them and generally take less established and cheaper names to use in multiple films rather than big names who'll want a lot of money right away. The recent 'Batman' film showed how to set up a Batman who's new without having to do the origin story again [as he's been operating for 2 years off screen before the film started] which could indicate where the next Bond could go. I agree Eon will probably do something we're not expecting as tradition.

@@adamcollins915 It would be a massive change in policy [both Brosnan and Moore were big names on TV but not massive film stars when they were cast] and Cavil is tied up in so many projects at the mo [Witcher for Netflix-a rival of MGM's owner Amazon, Mathew Vaughn's Argyll potentially being a trilogy, whatever is going on with him with Superman at DC, the Highlander remake] it might be a quite while before he'd be free for filming anyway. Nothing against him but would be surprised if he got it. Still, happy to be proved wrong.

The reason why Kevin Hart is a natural choice for the Bond role is bc he has that fierce look and demeanor. Whoever it will be has to be 35 at most given the slow pace with which they make films. That might rule out some on your list. I have no I interest in seeing a young James Bond so someone in their 20s won't work for me. 32-35 would be okay. Possibly stretch it to 38.
