As a fan of your channel from Thailand, I’m so delighted to hear this story here. Furthermore, I’d like to give you more information about Thai royal family’s line of succession. - According to the 1923 act of succession, which was legislated by King Rama VI and is still active today, female royals were prohibited to take the throne. The reason is that it was unlikely to have a queen regnant at that time. But time flies, and the constitution has the highest rank of law. We may see a woman to wear the crown in the future. This act also determines other interesting things, for example a male royal who marries a foreign woman must be excluded from the succession. It will be affected to his future descendants. Or a female royal must resign from the royal family and loses all of royal titles, if she wants to marry a man with lower rank. - The King’s younger sister, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (Wikipedia calls her Princess Royal), gets more popular than her brother, because the people think that she lives a very simple life, follows her father’s footsteps and is the hardest working royal. So she may be a good choice to become queen, if the king dies or abdicates. - Vacharaeson’s visit to Thailand in almost 30 years surprised us all and usually stays in spotlight. It is believed that he still never met his father and sister. - In Thai history, we have one abdication. King Rama VII abdicated in 1934, only two years after the Siamese Revolution. He remained in the UK until his death in 1941.

What is your thought about the rumor that the military prefers a weaker monarch so that they can control the future monarch like what happens in Cambodia. As a result, they were behind the collapse of the princess, which happened while she was visiting a military camp?
@doradoraemon408720 күн бұрын
@@est9949 I don't know the situation in Cambodia exactly. But in Thailand, as we can see from the past, monarchy and military have been supporting each other and strongly interconnecting in the same time. The current king had obsession with military since his childhood. After grown up, he served in the Army and the Air Force for very long period. He also established his own royal security command, in which he is the commander, whereas the current queen is the deputy commander. When ascending the throne, he used his power as monarch to do what he wants. In my opinion, he isn't weak at all, and won't be. A lot of military personnel has been promoting by his patronage, which seized people's way of life. He reached the top of the country, so he pretends to control everything absolutely. It is believed that he wants his youngest son to become the next king, although the title Crown Prince is still vacant, and the queen has no children. He has no plan B yet. Military and government should be helping and backing the new king in the future, when he dies. And there's another rumour about the princess. Inbreeding might cause her sickness. Her parents are cousins and they got married to keep the blue blood. His mother was pregnant once before her birth. But she miscarried. If not, she would have had an elder brother who might an heir. The couple divorced many years after that. Now, TWO years without any update about her health.

I am Swedish and I believe that King Carl XVI Gustaf will continue for at least ten more years. Partly because no Bernadotte Regent has abdicated (as Lindsey said) but also because he is healthy, strong and he really loves his job. But above all because he and the queen know how tough it is to be king and queen while having small children. (After all, all other modern-day regents have been crown princes/princesses for so long that their children have at least reached their teenage years before becoming regents) Victoria and her siblings have also publicly mentioned that they found it difficult that their parents were so busy and often absent when they where kids.

The UK doesn't have a tradition of honourable abdication because the Commonwealth intentionally made it very difficult for a sovereign to abdicate after Edward VIII's abdication. To abdicate, the sovereign must obtain the permission/consent of the Parliaments of all eight of the fifteen Commonwealth realms who have the right to chime in, the legislatures of all the Australian states, and the legislatures of all the Canadian provinces. No one seems to understand this. It's the law. It isn't optional, and they can't get around it unless they change the law. An heir cannot abdicate. They can however make themselves unqualified for the throne by converting to Roman Catholicism.
@Ea-Nasir_Copper_Co10 ай бұрын
And I should add that obtaining the consent means putting a bill through every one of these parliaments and legislatures, which in itself would likely take months if not years. The recent changes to the succession didn’t have to clear the Canadian provincial legislatures, and still it took *four years* for the bills allowing them to pass everywhere.
@annbsirius170310 ай бұрын
I feel that should Charles decide to abdicate down the road he would get permission even if took a bit of time and trouble. He's already past the age of retirement, he's not the icon his mother was after 70 years on the throne and William is very popular.
@DylanSargesson8 ай бұрын
Realistically if the King wanted to abdicate they'd move the legislation through the Parliaments much quicker. Especially depending on what the reasons were no Parliament/Government would want to be the one holding it up for everybody else. Of course when Edward VIII abdicated the Statue of Westminster (which recognised the monarchies of the Dominions, now Commonwealth Realms, to be seperate legally) had already been instituted, and the Canadian and South African Parliaments had to pass their own Acts to make it happen. Ireland also took the opportunity to change their laws and moved towards abolishing the Monarchy altogether, which I could see some modern countries doing too.
@mazmellem27737 ай бұрын
When Edward VIII abdicated, it helped that it was before his coronation. I'm not saying it wouldn't have been possible, but it would have been harder for him to abdicate after he'd been anointed King.

Here is to hoping that Leonor marries a member of the Capetian dynasty so that the House of Bourbons does not lose the throne of Spain after her time. Unlike other royal houses like Bernadotte or Windsor (where house membership go hand-in-hand with the succession to the throne), Spain is different because the House of Bourbon is part of the larger Capetian dynasty and is thus governed by the dynasty’s rules where house membership is limited to male-line descendants only.
@a2falcone6 ай бұрын
Spain currently allows the parents to choose the order of the surnames of their children, so it's possible Leonor's descendants would keep "Borbón" as their first surname. I don't think the only ruling Bourbons would care much about obscure ancient dynastic rules outranking the actual laws of Spain. They Spanish Bourbons are the only Bourbons that matter, after all, so their rules are the only rules that matter.

Many people believe that she’s already gone, but her father, who actually believes in fate and fortune, is not ready to let her go and finding an appropriate day to announce her death. As a Thai, I think Princess Sirivannavari has a lack of popularity and no interest in political issues. @@doradoraemon4087That’s not possible with the current constitution of Thailand. The constitution said The King may choose any of his *son or daughter* as heir to the throne. Even if the king did not designated an heir when his reign had ended, the government must still only invite one of his son or daughter to take the throne. The only possible scenario is if his reign ended and there’s no surviving son or daughter… then the throne will pass to his next eldest sibling, in this case that would be Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn but this scenario is highly unlikely as the King still has many sons and daughters…

The Monarchies of Belgium, Luxembourg and Netherlands were once all part of the Duchy of Burgundy. Burgundy knew the possibility of female succession and had it in happen in 1477, when Mary took over from Charles the Bold. And, last not least, but probably more important with regard to that: as long as the House of Hapsburg ruled in Burgundy (later on known as Spanish/Austrian Netherlands), it was usually the task of either the eldest sister or daughter of the current Hapsburg ruler (either in Spain or Austria) to be Governor his or her stead. So, those countries have a long tradition of female Rule.

Bravo on another interesting look at royals across Europe. I have a video request: Through the channel UsefulCharts I learned about several matrilineal dynasties amongst royal history in Europe. I checked, and noticed that not only were Isabella I of Castile and Manuel I of Portugal were matrilineal cousins, but there was more inbreeding in the Iberian Peninsula than I'd previously known of. Would a video on that history, which adds to the Habsburg inbreeding problems mentioned in previous videos, be a possibility?

@@lsmith9249 I understand that, but don't all the official vows take place during the coronation? 8:20 William will not automatically be known as "William the Fifth" nor will George be automatically "George the Seventh." Each British Monarch can choose to be called whatever name they want. Yes, Elizabeth and Charles chose to use their own given names, but her father, George VI was named Albert and his brother, whose given name was David, chose to be Edward VIII before be abdicated.

Only 3 British monarchs have not used their first names as their regnal names Victoria (first name Alexandrina), Edward VII (Albert) and George VI ( also Albert).
