Did you see the recent diamond league 1500m in London where Jakob set the European record. Cheruiyot was in that race as well and was about 15m behind at the end. He still ran a fast time but there was some gap, on the other hand a month before that Jakob and cheriyot ran another diamond league 1500m and it was a slower more tactical race. There was a sprint finish between cheriyotvand Ingebrigtsen at the end and it was literally a few inches between them at the finish. Jakob only won because he dived over the move otherwise cheeky it would have won. What I’m saying is that you are mistaken to think cheriyot would benefit more from a really hot pace. Cheriyot can ram fast times but not as fast as Jakob however he has a very good kick. Cheriyot is a 800/1500m runner whilst Jakob is more 1500/5000m runner. Jakob does very well in races with a very quick first half similar in pace to the second as this fizzles out the kick in other runners and makes the race more aerobic problem is though that Jakob can’t lead from the front or he’ll lose so he’ll have to hope someone else wants to lead out fast but no one else will probably want to. I could see cheriyot leading from the start a bit like in Tokyo but keeping the pace a bit slower, his fast times depend on a negative split and then the race will get comicated with others trying to make moves and it could get bunched up but I think Kerr will win because he looks like the best all rounder in the group and can likely cover all situations whilst Jakob needs a specific set of circumstances to give him a good chance of winning and this does depend on other runners and you can’t control other runners so there is an element of luck involved.
@arnegerhardsen37552 ай бұрын
Timothy and Jakob have been good friends for years even if they of course also are competitors. Both of them know that with a lot of fast sprinters they will have a unknown out come if the race is too slow. Nuguse might also need fast and steady pace to take a medal, but I haven't seen him take resonsibility as a pacer to get such a fast race. In Monaco Timothy showed he might be at the same level as in Tokyo, and if Timothy and Jakob would take responsibility together for a fast pacing I think both of them would take a medal. In Monaco Jakob came from hard training 2 times a day on his training camp in St. Morits, and if he has remained healthy he normally is at least in the same shape as in Monaco, and then he will gradually increase his speed the last 800 m like he has done before. A lot of runners need Jakob as their pacer and then it's a little strange to hear that Jakob cannot run fast without pacing. And in races with pacing Jakob always is the last pacer and have helped a lot of runners to get a fast PB.
@CliveBramham2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your analysis. In my opinion the race is about Jakob. He is the best and fastest, but there are a handful of top challengers. I do disagree about pacing - in many races Jakob is the pacer for most of the race. He has also shown over and over in the past 2-3 years than he runs his own race and sets his own lap pace (lights or not).

@nathanielseltveit32522 ай бұрын
The difference in speed the last 200m between the two of them last year wasnt that big. And at the time Jakob had a fever and i believe people under estimates his speed. Although Kerr has gotten better and mabye can do a 3:27.90 in Monaco for example, he is still behind Jakob in fitness by a great margin. Also im so done with the critics towards Jakob in non paced races, because in those races Jakob is Josh pacer i Would like to see Josh take a skiver medal two years in a row taking it by the front, because it will never happen. Jakob is the better runner overall and if the pace is between 3:27.5-3:28.5 he will glide away from Kerr with a few meters in the last 150m

@@AdamJansen786 I think @arnegerhardsen3755's point is that Jakob has shown that he has a faster kick now, so if it comes down to a "sit and kick" race, Josh has less of an advantage than he did in their previous meeting. My money is on Jakob.
@BitCrafted3 ай бұрын
I’m not sure his kick is faster than in 2022 or 2023. Did you see the 1500m diamond league race a month ago. Jakob had about a ten metre lead over cheriyout with 100m to go and cheriyot gained on him and would have won if Jakob hadn’t dived over the line. There was literally a millisecond between them in the final results and the announcers initially said cheriyot had won. Cheriyot is in good form right now but not his best form and had Kerr been in that race I definitely think he would have outkicked Ingebrigtsen. On the other hand the 1500m diamond league in Monaco which was a couple of weeks ago saw Jakob set a European record in the 1500m and beat cheriyot by about 15m or something. Difference was that race went out at world record pace with pacers and the other race was slower and more tactical. Jakob can’t let the race be slower or more tactical but he also can’t just lead from the front because I think Kerr will win it then. Maybe he could try some kind of midway surge but that won’t be easy so I think Kerr will win because he looks more versatile at the moment. We aren’t sure how fast Kerr could run a 1500m time trial right now maybe it is slower than Ingebrigtsen but it wouldn’t be much slower and the Olympics isn’t a time trust and doesn’t have pacers or wave light paving technology.

I think Josh will win by 5 metres or less. It will be very close and could go either win but I say Josh takes it and overtakes ingebrigsten some time in the last 100m. People are saying ingebrigsten has insane fitness right now but he had insane fitness back in 2022 when he beat the indoor 1500m world record. A few months later though he came second in both the outdoor and indoor 1500m world championships. It will be difficult for ingebrigsten I think it’s his race to lose because I don’t think he can beat Josh by doing his standard tactic of leading from the front. This can be problematic without pacers. I also don’t think that ingebrigsten can allow this to be a slow race. If the average pace is around than 3:31-3:32 with 400m remaining then I think Ingebrigtsen will definitely get out kicked and maybe not just by Kerr. Jakob will have to hope someone else that leads from the front takes the race out at a good pace, then he could maybe try a midway surge where he goes to the front with 800m remaining or so. This kind of thing is risky though as overtaking runners midway through isn’t necessarily the most efficient way and there is a risk of him getting trapped/boxed in. Getting boxed in would be bad for Jakob as normally it’s not as big an issue because things often open up toward the end but Jakob can’t wait till near the end. If Jakob has a perfect strategy and a bit of luck with what the others are doing then I think he could win otherwise I think Josh takes it. It’s Jakobs race to lose he’ll have to be tactical and ballsy but not too confident.

However, he's been found out twice in a row at the highest levels of championship racing. Your analysis is very good, although I have a few minor disagreements. It’s impossible to predict who will win the 1500M as too many variables and unknowns are in play. The main unknown is whether Ingebrigtsen has improved further following his Monaco 3:26.73 run. His progression after recovery from his Achilles injury has been startling. He may have a sub 3:26 (i.e. world record) in him sometime this year based on his results so far. If the pace is only solid (around or just under 3:29) and Ingebrigtsen leads fairly early we’ll probably have a replay of the last two world championships. That’s completely logical as Kerr following closely has a decided advantage with a slightly easier run sitting right behind. I believe Kerr has the fitness and ability to run a 3:27 but may struggle holding on if Ingebrigtsen can run a 3:26 (perhaps even low 3:27) leading almost all the way - far from easy to do at their level. Ingebrigtsen ran his spectacular 2 mile world record being on his own for the last three laps (albeit still with wave lights). An intelligent athlete runs to his strengths, not his weaknesses, so I can’t imagine Ingebrigtsen will tolerate a slow or even solid pace. Ideally he’d want a 1:50 to 1:51 800M and a 2:46 1200M, followed by a 40 second last 300M (53.33 second 400M pace to finish). That would probably blunt Kerr’s kick enough for Ingebrigtsen to win gold. It’s obvious to say it looks a match race between Ingebrigtsen and Kerr if the pace is at 3:29 or below, the faster the race being to Ingebrigtsen’s distinct advantage, of course. He looks to have the superior strength/endurance.

J.I. rarely gets beaten by the same person twice. He'll more than likely win unless someone else can actually run much faster than him, and that person is most likely will come from an African country. Unlike the Diamond league, there are heats and no one really knows how much this takes out of the athletes, except they themselves. I imagine it will be a very close race.

Well, now he got beat by Kerr x3 in a row and even lost to Hocker and Nguse… He’s done in 1500 m… Should focus on 5000 m before moving on to the roads…

Oh really? Is that why Kerr only has 2 medals in his career despite being 3 years older vs Jakob’s 11 with 9 Golds? I think the stats show who the champion & racer is 😉
@blainenewton71883 ай бұрын
Kerr's 3:45 in the mile, which was run last Spring, translates to roughly 3:27 for 1,500m, which is well within range of Jakob's recent 1,500m time. Kerr took the lead in his mile race at about 600m out, showing his newfound strength, and he has since improved his fitness even more. Then again, so has Jakob. So, it could go either way. Would love to see Timothy Cheruiyot in the mix, too.
@AdamJansen7863 ай бұрын
Yeah its very close! I don't think those times are equivalent. Kerrs mile time is closer to a low 3:28 1500m according to IAAF score calculator so I don't think Kerr has yet shown he is in 3:27 form (although he could be and has not shown it yet).
@blainenewton71883 ай бұрын
@@AdamJansen786 You're right, it would be closer to 3:28. I don't use the calculator, but usually use like a 17 second difference to convert. I guess I forgot how to subtract! 😆 Btw, I love your channel.. Liked and subscribed. And thanks for the response.

If Ingrebrigtsen had pacers to take the field through 1000m at WR pace, I would pick him, but given Kerr's indoor 3000m WR, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Kerr has the fitness to use Jakob as a pacemaker and out-kick him again. Should be a very close race, either way.
