I’ve never really considered the doctor to be a hero. More a man who’s seen and done a considerable number of wrongdoing himself, as such he tries to prevent such things. For the longest time he believed he was responsible for the mass genocide of his race (until it was discovered he had trapped them in a pocket dimension) and as such tries to save other races to a certain extent. In a good man goes to war, Matt Smiths Doctor is told he’s a good man, he won’t break his rules and harm a villain. The doctor explains he’s not a good man. That good men don’t need rules and that it’s not a good idea to see why he has so many, and what happens if he breaks them.

The Doctor wasn't just angry at Harriet because she blew up the ship, it's because she blew it up after they had already surrendered and started to retreat. It is not hypocritic at all, the Doctor has always made a big deal out of offering his foes a chance to retreat before dealing out punishment and it makes absolute sense for him to be furious at someone for resorting to genocide after he had already came to a pacifist solution.
@henryschriemer11334 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t call it genocide, it was one ship. I kind of have to agree with Harriet because the doctor isn’t always around and it’s her responsibility to keep earth safe. The Sycorax were a dangerous and technologically advanced race who attacked earth unprovoked. I wouldn’t let them leave our star system alive either because who knows if they would or wouldn’t come back with a larger force. This also tells other species that earth isn’t to be fucked with lightly. (Btw I’m partially playing devil’s advocate here because I keep switching from siding with the doctor and Harriet)

There's the possibility that she'd get really against the idea, but the alternative is to lie and manipulate your friend and her husband who you've been through a LOT of shit with together in order to get through the facility with a weaponized amy who can get them to the TARDIS and then take off without her so they can save young amy. At the time of the events of 'Remembrance Of The Daleks', it was believed that the Thals had abandoned Skaro to the Daleks, or become extinct because of them. The Doctor had known for many years that, to defeat Fenric, Ingiger, and the Haemovores, he needed someone with him with unshakable faith, which was why he tested Ace so severely. Likewise, with Jamie, he had to have the most human 'human factor' to process the Daleks with. An angry, questioning Scotsman who has little idea of what is being done to him, is the ideal subject to produce a mental profile, which, when introduced into Daleks, will cause at least one of them to answer an order with the simple, but to Dalek civilisation, deadly, little word: "Why?"

I am going with the time The Doctor might have caused the death of Vincent Van Gogh. Hear me out. In Vincent and The Doctor the Doc runs into Vincent and their adventure ends with the Doc taking Vincent to the future to see an art gallery to show Vincent that people do, or at least will love his work. Vincent breaks down in happiness and then the Doctor drops him back off in his time. This is not a good thing. Van Gogh suffered from psychotic episodes and delusions and though he worried about his mental stability he often neglected his physical health, did not eat properly and drank heavily. Remember the whole ear thing? So it is possible that he began to believe that his encounter with the Doctor was all in his head that it was all a lie and that none would ever like his work. He's depression deepens and then he kills himself. GOOD JOB DOCTOR!! ( Still an incredible episode!!!)

The Doctor was left with no choice in dealing with the Family. They chased him throughout time & he couldn't lose them. In fact he was even willing to give up his life possibly forever & live out his life as a human. It was after this failed the Doctor realized he had no choice, but to deal with them. The fact that dealt with them so easily proves he did it not to protect himself, but the innocents caught in the crossfire. Also neither Clara nor the astronaut were the reason for him making them decide the fate of the moon. The reason was Clara's student who was with them. I know it is easy to miss, but the Doctor implies that she is not only destined to become President of the U.S., but one of the greatest world leaders in history. The Doctor is probably trying to guide her to fulfill her destiny. The reason he does this may be out of guilt over Harriet Jones, who he was forced to depose. In your video you left out 1 important fact about Harriet Jones. That is that the aliens were retreating when she had them destroyed. This is considered one of the worst war crimes. While it was necessary to depose Jones, the Doctor probably felt guilty about depriving Earth of a golden age. As a result the Doctor may want to guide Clara's student to ensure that she fulfills her destiny.

Pshh, the doctor himself admitted multiple times he is not a good man. He is no hero. Also the reason why his companions kept telling him "never travel alone" we know what timelords characters are like, thus why he always pick a younger (compare to his age) companion. And why he should always have one. Left alone, the doctor has potential to become one of the most feared villain like the master or even worst.
@TheMidnightwolf154 жыл бұрын
I'm honestly surprised that the whole of series 3 isn't on this list, to be honest. The way the Doctor treated Martha was horrendous. Even in their first proper adventure together when they visited Shakespeare, Martha had some very valid fears about being in that particular time period, but the Doctor completely brushes them aside. He doesn't stand up to Shakespeare when he openly and continuously flirts with her either. He constantly compares her to Rose, which I hated, saying how "she would know what to do". He overly glorifies Rose in Martha's face. Even when she saves the world and stands up to the Master, on her own, he doesn't say a single thank you.

The Doctor is not a good man, but he's a man trying to do his best and unfortunately for Martha she joined him after he had allowed himself to love again for the first time in far too many years to count and lost that. Believe me when you lose someone to circumstances out of anyone's control it stays with you and especially when its fresh you're just broken. His actions made total sense to me, it sucks for Martha but she chose to continue riding the train despite knowing the destination was nowhere good.

The Family of Blood got exactly what they asked for. As the narration in the episode finale said, They wanted to live forever, and he made sure that they did. Be careful what you ask for. You might get it. As for "some inexplicable reason" - if you WATCHED the episodes, it was EXPLAINED. The Family would only live for 3 months, like mayflies, but they had gotten hold of a Vortex Manipulator, and could follow the Doctor anywhere and anywhen he went. I've always maintained that ALL of the incarnations of the Doctor have their dark sides to them; yes, even the "blessed" Fifth & Tenth. In "Planet of Fire" (where we meet Peri), the Fifth Doctor basically just stands there while the Master is cruelly immolated. As far as the Doctor was concerned or knew, the Master had no more lives left. He did nothing. Speaking of Peri and the Sixth Doctor trying to strangle her.... Remember, as the Fifth Doctor was about to regenerate, he said "It feels different this time." I think that explains why Six was acting manic, thinking Peri was a threat. Then, of course, Ten's the "no second chances" Doctor. We see an example of that when he destroys the Racnoss race in the center of the Earth. What a guy. Thank you for mentioning Harriet. She was right, as we learned. The Sycorax had already proven they weren't honorable, why would she trust the planet to these turds, HOPING that they'll keep their side of the bargain? I'm glad she blew their asses out of the sky.

Can't believe “the age of steel” didn't make it to this list. After accidentally breaking one cyberman's inhibitor, causing her immense pain, the doctor then decides that it's a good idea to destroy the rest of the cybermen the same way. He gave them back their humanity, made them go mad and literally self explode because they couldn’t even bear the pain. That is the most cruel way to destroy someone. I would honestly put it on top of that list because surely he could have thought of some other way to kill them. Just turn off their brains or something, man.

I don't think it was nefarious for him to let Earth choose the fate of the moon. I mean Clare was becoming more and more like the Doctor. She even got to be the Doctor in Flatline or whatever that was called. Besides wasn't Harriet Jones that said the Doctor isn't always there? Why not let them choose their fate while he is there to help if need be? We always look up to the Doctor to make the tough choices. For a change we get to see him hesitate. We get to be the ones to choose. I think it's understandable that Clare got upset but it's not fair to the Doctor either. Why should he be responsible for yet another death? He had enough and let Clare choose along with Earth. Also, I think it helped the Doctor. They shouldered the responsibility so he could think clearly.
@theyellowlightsaber31933 жыл бұрын
It was very on the nose because the Doctor spends all his time telling everyone what to do and all of a sudden he decides to step back and let them deal with the entire global situation since they had to consult all of earth about the moon's fate, it just made the Doc look like a shit for leaving them with the problem when usually his raison d etre is to help not leave others in dilemmas.

I thought this was the best move. Clara had been trying to dictate since Matt Smith what the Doctor did. Now, he finally let's her make the decision and she gets mad about it. This was something that was being led into almost from the beginning of the new series with Rose trying to stop him from killing the Dalek in "Dalek." Also, seems kind of hypocritical to me for the channel to say one of the worst things he did is retaliate for something humans did (Harriet destroying the Sycorax ship), and then another being allowing humans to make a decision.

Family of Blood episode: I always thought The Doctor fleeing to Earth instead of outright destroying The Family for the danger they posed was an incredibly selfish move. He knew the threat they posed to Earth if they found him and didn't even care what Martha would have to suffer through as well if he did it. It made for a gripping and heartbreaking two parter though. Heck I still bawl my eyes out for "John Smith" and the matron when I watch the last episode. Still, The Doctor has done worse.
