The Master (if we can believe him, which we almost certainly can't) said that "The Valyard is an amalgamation of the darker sides of your nature, somewhere between your 12th and FINAL incarnation." NOT his 12th and 13th incarnation 12th and FINAL incarnation. That means anytime after 12 but before the last incarnation. How many incarnations the Doctor has after 12 is anyones guess at this point. Maybe this time he was telling the truth. What better way to hide lies than to bury them somewhere in the middle of abunch of truths?

The problem with the end of Amy and Rory it pretty much rewrote Blink. That is my only problem with the Weeping Angels. Moffat made them scarier, confusing and ambiguous over time.

The Curator's identity was that confusing??? I thought it was rather obvious... especially when the room all three tardises are lined up in, is itself inside a Tardis, mounted at the door frame.. I mean.. the 'art' on the walls was a dead giveaway.. Tom Baker coming out was the most flagrantly obvious and lovely gorgeous and thrilling moment of the episode(s). ...oh and then there was the dialogue that said it straight up, so... I mean, reallly? Were that many people not paying attention? Who... knows...

I've just chalked up the whole Timeless Child things as a plot by The Master to confuse The Doctor long enough to bring his nefarious plans to fruition. At least that's my hope of what RTD does when he starts running the show again, properly. As for the timing issue with UNIT stories, I always went with those stories being in the 1980's. The Brigadier always referred to the PM as Ma'am (mum) in those stories and Maggie Thatcher was almost an entirely 80's PM.

The reason regeneration exists as it does in the Doctor Who universe is because of William Hartnell‘s excitement for the role, and then subsequent health issues leading to a replacement. William Hartnell will always be the first Doctor No matter what the clowns at the bbc say.

We never really know that the doctor left gallifrey looking like William Hartnell it was only implied that’s what happened cause of Clara jumping into the doctor’s timeline effectively becoming his guardian and telling William Hartnell to take a certain tardis but we never really know until that modern era retcon of that event that the doctor had already become William Hartnell but we don’t really know that for sure cause explanation of backstory wasn’t really done in the show in the 60’s and regeneration wasn’t a thing until William Hartnell got to where he couldn’t handle doing the show anymore due to his declining health where Cerebrovascular disease and heart failure would take him on April 23rd 1975

I hate almost all Time Travel Shows, and movies. And yet I deeply love Doctor Who. Why? I started watching the Doctor in the late 60's when I was a young Californian just starting school (1st grade), and I loved it. Thing is anything else I watch with "time travel" I question, I cringe, I object. However, for some reason, I never have this problem with "The Doctor", it's just wibbly-wobbly-timey-whimey good fun! Sure there are mistakes, things that don't make sense, and oh-so many questions, but that's okay - they're the Doctor! As always thank you so very much for the video.

With The Curator, my headcanon is that actually was the Fourth Doctor. When a Doctor regenerates, their previous incarnation goes somewhere to live out a quiet, peaceful life in retirement, maybe as a human. In the Fourth Doctor's case, he became the curator of that museum. Of course, now I'm wondering where the other incarnations wound up. Ten might become a teacher, like in that 2-parter. Nine...heh, maybe a dance instructor?

Interesting theory, if explored right then one could spin it to explain why you sometimes see the doctor 'before' they change into that version, like when we saw capaldi in Pompeii, maybe that was the capaldi version zapped back in time for his 'retirement' life cycle, and of course the memories stay with the current version of the doctor so that capaldi version no longer remembers he was the doctor. But do those 'retired' doctors die at the end of their life span? Cuz we see capaldi again in season 3 of torchwood. Like I said, interesting theory, I'd be down to see an episode touch on that even if they retcon it away.

I'm not convinced that the Fugitive Doctor is pre-Hartnell. Despite the assertion in this video, it's neither been confirmed nor denied at this point. Yes, the Fugitive Doctor is working for Division, but it doesn't necessarily equate that this was during the Timeless Child period. Given that the TARDIS is in the shape of a Police Box, and she calls herself the Doctor, the Fugitive can only be from Season 6B. Another more slightly tenuous nod to this is that, while in Gloucester Cathedral, Ruth's phone is at 68%. It may not be intentional, but 68 and 6B look very similar at first glance. Frankly, having her be pre-Hartnell doesn't really make sense - not at the moment, anyway.

I love that fans are annoyed with the idea of previous to Hartnell's version when in the Mind of Morbius, we were given visual representations of pre-Hartnell versions of the Doctor in the mental challenge they engage in. In fact, Morbius asks the Doctor how many regenerations he has had ... so, having a pre Hartnell Doctor is hardly a surprise.

I remember stating that the dreamlord from that episode where Rory and Amy just choose their realities n stuff was a precursor to the Valiard n considering we are on 14 going 15 I will guess that the excess time energy given the Matt Smith. My answer for the Valeyard is tied to another unanswered Doctor Who question -- who is The Watcher? The Doctor knows that at some point before his final incarnation, he needs to project his spirit back to assist Four's regeneration into Five (predestination paradox). Frankly, Eleven should have dealt with that, because _so far as he knew_ he was the final incarnation. *The Valeyard is what is left of the Doctor while the helpful/good elements of his soul are embodied as The Watcher, elsewhere and when.* Time being wibbly-wobbly, the Watcher may actually have other tasks to do before finishing up in the Four/Five moment and returning to its origin point. And may even have to fight the Valeayrd for control of their body!

What if the Valleyard as a grown up metacrisis doctor (since he can age) driven mad by the death of Rose. Incarnations 1-10 count for 12 because of the war doctor and Tennant technically being two. So if the metacrisis doctor considers himself to be the thirteenth then it fits without disrupting the line from Smith to Capaldi.

The Fugitive Doctor I think could be a past Doctor in disguise. We’ve seen the Master do disguises before, so why not the Doctor. The current Doctor could of course have all forgot about that, just like how the Doctor tried to forget about the War Doctor. The biggest issue with the Chibnall/Timeless Child critiques is it seems like fans want to point out every flaw at every opportunity, even inventing flaws just to find things to criticise. I'm not saying Chibnall's era is without flaws, or that TTC doesn't need some real development/clarification, but really, season 12 was fantastic, better than season 2 at the very least, and better than 5, 7B and 8 imo, probably on par with 10. It's fine to criticise the glaring issues, I just wish it wasn't so circlejerky, and it didn't feel like people had to side for or against like it's a battle of opinions.

Wonderful video. It’s a fun game to try to make 60 years of serialised TV make sense. When in doubt, I embrace the mystery. Even relatively straightforward fiction like Sir Arthur’s original Sherlock Holmes stories can mess with your head. Most stories reference the date they take place. But if you put them in chronological order, Watson is married 3 times to women called Mary who keep dying. And don’t get me started on where his war wound is. Leg or shoulder? I've just watched one of Ellie's Star Trek videos and surprised to see Ellie again on this Doctor Who one straight away - or maybe not so surprised, the way KZbin works! When I saw the other female doctor appear in one episode and neither of the doctors remember being the other.... my first thought was it's a version of the doctor from a parallel universe where the regenerations might have happened at different times and resulted in different appearances! I wasn't thinking of all the unknown history of the character before the 'first' doctor's story. I once made up a story in which the chameleon circuit started working again and the outside of the Tardis managed to change its appearance to look like an old garden shed... but the doctor preferred the police box so by the end of the story it was back to its usual form!

The Doctor does explain why he can't go back and save Amy. First is the damage the angels have made in that era, and the second is that he's now aware of their future due to the grave, just as he was aware of River's immediate fate with the angel from the book's spoiler. He can't go back and change a future he's currently a part of. Couple this with something said a while back (I don't recall when). One of the Doctors said that certain points in history get locked out of the Tardis due to a cracking or thinning of the temporal veil, much like Rose's dimension cannon messing with the dimensional fabric. He can't even go back to visit because he doesn't like endings.

There is nothing stopping The Doctor from going back to visit Amy and Rory other than that was how it was written or their contracts ran out. But in the story they exist in a place and time, and that time is not cut off as a possible (intentional or accidental) destination for the TARDIS. If he/she were to land anywhere and anywhen, there is no guarantee that either someone he knew or will know will be there, or that absolutely nobody will be present who had the misfortune of having encountered an Angel. In short, he's making it up as he goes along and can invent any explanation for why he can't in the story, but that is only to cover for the technical and practical reasons of the show and the availability of actors.

The 4th Doctor told Davros that the fist Dalek invasion of Earth took place in the year 2000. Granted, it was broadcast in 1975, so, they gave themselves 25 years, and they probably thought that the show couldn't last (they did try to kill it in the '80s).

I know it sounds close-minded but imagine the person who wrote the show... what do you think they would feel about taking away the importance of Hartnell's doctor as the first. sure it's fine to adapt the show to more current times but it's important not to break away from the core of the show as a storyteller, you have certain walls that help structure the plot and the message of the show and when you take down those walls you lose any sort of story building you had in the first place so saying to Who fans that have invested in the show longer than you were born "Doctor who fans are boringly linear" is taking away from the voice of the people who actually keep it alive for the sake of imagination and sci-fi altogether not politics... because that's not the core of the show, no one watches Doctor Who for political or "woke" reasons smh I'm basically being told shut up The Doctor is Super Man now...

What’s the date that cannon can just be ignored, 1 hour, 1 episode, 1 series. They are trading on previous decades with a big budget, hire a cannon researcher just like a continuity scene expert. Naturally some mistakes will occur, slip ups that can’t be fixed. ST Enterprise showed respect and care and creativity in dealing with Cannon issues. On a separate point I was disappointed with the 50th as it traded on a date but just brought new era stuff. Would love for the UK Tomorrow People do be brought back. But picking up with original cast as if there was just a gap rather that a reboot etc

hartnell has to be the first doctor, otherwise the doctor found a bunch of spare regenerations somewhere. if hartnell wasnt first, he would have run out of regenerations and died. although it does seem like the doctor has enough experience, knowledge, and conceit to have regenerated dozens of times already.

Everyone hates the timeless child and all I see is they created a way to move past the fact the 12th not only shouldn't have existed but was handed to him with the power of who knows how many gallifreyans. How was anyone actually expecting the doctor to regenerate passed Capaldi without some reasonable mechanic? The Doctors impossible for a reason and idc if people think it's thrown in because like I said it wouldn't make sense just to let the doctor to continue to endlessly regenerate after all that we've seen since the 11lth and ever since we knew there was a limit.

I feel like bringing back the Brigadier was a mistake in Mawdryn Undead if he was to appear in the Five Doctors. I know Ian was to return but they could have brought back Liz Shaw. I think the only way to fix the controversy is to pretend that the web of fear wasn't "forty years" after the abominable snowmen but thirty to thirty-five then you could have the Pertwee era set after 1975 and Sarah Jane can canonically be from around 1980.

I would submit that the hybrid is any Doctor/Companion pairing. The Extraordinary combined with the ordinary. Every Companion makes The Doctor less singular and The Doctor manifests the heroic in every Companion. Is the Doctor ever more dangerous than when the Companion is risk? Are the Companions ever more unstoppable than when the Doctor is in danger? Rose broke a Tardis, Amy recreated reality, Clara expanded herself across his timeline.

4:50 Technically, it was never said the Valeyard was between the 12th and 13th incarnation, the exact words were "between your 12th and *final* incarnation", fans then deduce it was the 13th because of what we knew then, but with all we know now, it doesn't have to be, technically, with all the pre-hartnell doctors, for all we know, the Valeyard is somewhere in classic series continuity, or even before that, or maybe thousands of years after the current series, who knows ? But I quite like the theory that he's the master in disguise too ...
