Not one mention of River in the season other than in a New to Who KZbin video 😢 that's the down for me, especially for the Doctor that's been to therapy and allows himself to feel things. One would think he would stop holding her as close to the chest as the previous Doctors did.

I think a lot of focus is put on the lip syncing. However one of the main reasons that the mouths look wrong is subconscious. What the babies were saying had no relation to their facial expressions or gestures. No matter what they did with the speech, if you have a baby saying how scared it is... But has a happy face and gestures it's going to look wrong. (Acting isn't just about what you do with your mouth)

You forgot to mention Sutekh supposedly latching onto the Tardis back in the 4th's lifetime when 11,12 AND 13 all would have felt something back then. Heck we had a SPEAKING TARDIS during 11's time and she didn't say anything about it. She wouldn't stop talking she definitely would have said something. Or when the weird ghost thing tried to possess the actual police box in the same episode Sutekh could have and would have slapped it out instantly.
@Domihork16 күн бұрын
I honestly don't get why Sutekh couldn't have latched onto the TARDIS at the edge of the universe in the 60th anniversary. And it still would have worked with him being present in a large portion of the universe because the TARDIS travelled from the edge to somewhere in the middle.
@milesunsworth636516 күн бұрын
@@Domihorkbetter yet, he latched on to the Tardis on the night of Christmas Eve 2004 when the Doctor saved baby Ruby from the goblins creating a scenario where the solution to the Sutekh problem may be undoing that - restoring the miserable timeline we saw for a moment in Church on Ruby Road. Because we know the Doctor will reboot and save the universe at the end, so why not make the tension of the episode about HOW he'll do it. Then when he can do it without sacrificing Ruby, it's actually satisfying. Could also explain away the snow and inconclusive scans and Maestro's fear by saying she's a space time anomoly/aberration.
@ZOLTAR43616 күн бұрын
@@Domihork this is what I wanted to happen especially because in a doctor who comic which had Sutek in it, he moved sideways in his time vortex tunnel that the 4th doctor trapped him in. And when he stepped out the vortex sideways he was at the edge of the universe, The Same place that the doctor and Donna were in the 60th special so they could have said Sutekh sensed the tardis and moved sideways and latched onto it from there. PLUS the tardis made that groaning noise in wild blue yonder meaning Sutekh was there latched onto That tardis.

I didn't mind Ruby's mother being an ordinary human. But it could have been handled a lot better. One solution that's been suggested by several people I've heard/read is that some entity had interfered with the *memory* of Ruby's mother. Thus, for instance, Louise Miller (the mother) didn't point -- and in "Church of Ruby Road" she actually didn't -- but the memory of the night was altered by some entity so that the VHS tape, the Time Window and even the Doctor's own memory would make it look as if she did. All this would create a false trail to mislead Sutekh and have him assign great importance to her, leading him on a wild goose chase and making it easier for the Doctor and Ruby to defeat him. The identity of the memory-altering entity could have been incorporated into the story -- making that entity (the Tardis? another god?) an ally of the Doctor; or it could have been left as an explicitly open question, to be resolved in the next season
@ZOLTAR43616 күн бұрын
Mrs flood's name was on a list on the set of doctor who and she had a description about her and in the description it said that she was the god of stories / an ancient story teller which is why she can break the 4th wall. So maybe she has the power to alter peoples memory's because 'memorys are where stories go when they are forgotten' that is something that Peter capaldi's doctor said to Clara when he had forgotten her in that cafe that was also a tardis in hell bent. I rewatch the last two episodes of Doctor from this year and Mrs flood said 'oh I had such plans' meaning she was beginning with her plan so maybe she was the one altering the doctor's memory of that night as he said that the memory of Ruby's mum had changed.

@raidenvakarian936214 күн бұрын
I don't know, I think if you set up a character's parents as being important, and then they aren't, you're always bound to disappoint people. It's like with the Star Wars sequels - I think Rey being no one important (until she takes control of her own destiny) is really powerful and interesting, but not if they spent a movie and a half teasing that she's the daughter of someone important who had to hide her away on a backwater planet. Same goes for Ruby - if you set up a mystery about who her mother is, you have to pay it off in a meaningful way or else why waste screen time on it at all?

Hot take! Sutekh reveal was bad. I’ve been a massive doctor who fan for 14 years, and it meant nothing to me. It went off nothing previously established and he ended up being bland and uninteresting. He is evil and likes to kill so kills everyone. That’s it. Not interesting to me at all. Susan however being the doctor’s granddaughter, that’s very interesting.
@Sir_Gerald_Nosehairs.15 күн бұрын
Sutekh was a brilliant one-shot villain, in one of the best stories of the Classic era, but he should have stayed there. A villain last relevant in the 1970's can't be brought back and have a "wow" factor when most of the viewership won't know who he is.
@raidenvakarian936214 күн бұрын
@@Sir_Gerald_Nosehairs. They could have pulled it off, but should have set it up better so that it'd have meaning outside of "oh, it's something that existed in the classic show!" Sutekh needed something like that.

@@DrWhoFanJ I mean wasted potential does define a lot of this run thus far. They have a $100 million dollar budget, but couldn’t schedule well enough to have their lead actor in the first shooting block. That speaks of mismanagement to me tbh. There’s 8 episodes in this season as opposed to the traditional 13, that leaves less room for error and less space to make mistakes. There are at least 4 duds this season, which is a shame because that’s literally half the season. In a normal season, there might be four duds but it makes up for less of the total content percentage wise. It’s basic math.
@captainawesome071112 күн бұрын
@@newfanguyjackson4858 I’ve had that same idea for a while. Tbh I’ve got a solid pitch for how to incorporate the Valeyard into mainline continuity that could possibly be fascinating. I love the idea that we don’t see the Doctor regenerate. So imagine 13 regenerates and it cuts to black. Opens up with Ncuti as 14, with no memory of how he’s regenerated or how the TARDIS changed. Then across the season, there would be this time traveling antagonist operating from the shadows until it’s revealed to be the actual 14th Doctor and that ours has been 15 all along. It would make him definitively the Valeyard, and would have the Doctor cause him to regenerate to assure his own survival

I hate to say it, but Doctor Who jumped the shark with the bi-generation thing. At that moment, I lost all interest in new Doctor Who, and I don’t like it. I'm not so down on trying something different with the bi-generation - the show constantly renews itself, so why not try something different this time? But I have to agree with you - the Doctor(s) were instantly cool with it and knew exactly what it was and brushed it off 20 seconds later. Even if you're fine with the bi-generation concept, the execution was so off-hand and dismissive for something that uproots and changes established lore.

10. Yep, a spectacularly daft decision. But nope, the Dog song wasn't funny. 9. Prior to RTD2, I cared about what happened to Who. Post PotD though, I'm just not all that fussed. I don't want it to be cancelled. That's petty and selfish and I had no time for people that had that attitude during Jodie/Chibs' era. But if the show did have another little rest again now, I wouldn't be all that fussed. 8. Having the sanding happen the week before wouldn't have added diddly or squat to the stakes. It's not when it happened that was the problem. It's that it happened to basically everyone. 7. OK, this one feels weirdly specific to whoever wrote this video. I've seen a lot of complaints about the season (and agreed with most of them), but this isn't something that occurred to me at all. Very odd. 6. For me, Fifteen hadn't been around long enough to miss him. So I wasn't all that bothered. 5. Didn't care, I didn't watch most of the season until the week before Empire. Until that point, I was just gonna skip it (like I had, the 60th not-very-specials). But curiosity got the better of me and as much as RTD/10 is not for me at all, RTD/9 was OK. So it was possible RTD with another different Doctor would be good. Sadly, it was not. 4. Honestly, I didn't mind Space Babies. I mean, it wasn't great, but it was better than most of what followed, including Chord, Yards, Bubble and obviously Legend and Empire. 3. The absence of a Whoniverse curated by RTD is not a bad thing. It is a relief. 2. Hey. Another one I agree with. Mostly. It was jarring and weird and nonsensical to just tack it on the end. But it's not a catchy song at all. And I have zero problem with shows doing musical numbers. Strange New Worlds' "Subspace Rhapsody" is my favourite episode of any Star Trek show, ever. 1. Correct. No notes. Well, OK one. Just to say, even if the sign had been there, the suggestion that Ruby's mum was pointing at a street name so that someone might see her, assume she was the mother of the child left in the church and immediately say "Hey, that must be this kid's mum, and she clearly wants me to name her after that sign" is, without even the tiniest molecule of doubt, the single dumbest thing to happen in any episode of Doctor Who, ever.

@GTArajgaming8 күн бұрын
Ruby's "arc" feels a lot like thasmin, forced, badly done and a waste of time (it wouldn't have been a waste if it was actually done correctly and paired with a good character) Ncuti's first season has it's moments, but ultimately it's only RTD writing stuff down for the paycheck and not because he wants to. The doctor lite episodes were really well done that being said, if you're doing it like this then it's ok, but if you're going to pull a CW and permanently sideline the main character because "waaaah I dun like science and superhero stuff" The worst thing besides ruby's "arc" was putting out the episodes on streaming first, news outlets LOVE to talk about broadcast views, and you give fuel to the fire that is clickbait articles like screenrant, thegamer etc whom are all like " Doctor who's latest episode had 5 mil viewers, is the show dying??" The literal primary audience is broadcast viewers in the UK, put the episode on TV first then put it on Disney plus and iplayer after the broadcast.... simple Quick edit: Space babies is atrocious due to the fact it reminds me of baby genius....

I still want an episode where the Doctor has to contend with an evil version of himself. Not a clone or anything, actually himself but pushed to the point of no return. Like take where the Doctor was at in Waters of Mars, take the Time Lord Victorious and make the new Doctor try and face off with him to put the time streams right as TLV does what he wants.

Also how have they not included the doctors constant crying at some point in most episodes it was overused. I hope Ncuti gets better writing because he’s not really given us the doctor yet it felt more like Ruby was the doctor and he was the companion

There are memories of that entire life that Ruby lived inside herself. She'd always retain them no matter what. Those memories that she was unaware of came up on the screen of Ap Gwilliams went on to get them to the future to find the dna list. I never thought I would see WhoCulture at last be upfront about some of the terrible poor judgements and features of DW 2024. Goodness the next thing happening is I’ll get a reply! And to borrow the phrase from Ellie 'Let's be honest...' there were certainly more than ten terrors in 2024 world of Who. I do wish reviewers would be more adult and acknowledge that sincere criticism is NOT the same as being negative. It is simply being honest and honesty from both extreme ends of the debate has been lacking. From haters to glorifiers (mostly just RTD) have dominated the KZbin world and beyond. I have hopes for the Christmas Special for if anyone can save DW it is Steven Moffatt. I am even hoping with this time and place doors in the hotel he is going to resolve and override the dire Timeless Child disaster. If anyone can do it, it is Moffatt. DW has got to do a lot better in 2025 and my concern is the filming of two seasons back-to-back has locked in the content so little can be done to avoid mistakes from season one reoccurring in season two. As for Disney, I doubt anyone over 40 years of age had faith in that hyped up nonsense. Disney is about money and quotas and nothing else. They were never going to be a fit for DW and in fact if anything made the British iconic series feel Americanised and those were the worst parts - yes including the song and dance number. This is DW not Glee or high School Musical. Joy to the World is going to have to be hugely successful as I can't see season two improving over one. The special is going to need to be so good it can override another dodgy season and provide hope a third season can eventuate can come back to form. Enough excuses and time for truthful reflection, open criticism, listening from those with the superegos and remembering DW is a British icon that is enjoyed over the world. There is no need to remove the Britishness. The world needs to stop sucking up to the USA and simply take pride in producing their own works.

Apart from 73 Yards it was all bad. 1) A horribly miscast Doctor who can't stop crying and not acting like the doctor. 2) Cringe inducing episodes with horrible CGI 3) Ruby's whole arc was pointless and really bad writing, Ruby's parent's were no-one special like Rey in Star Wars, expect Rey's grandfather was emperor Palpatine. RTD missed that bit huh.. 4) Hiring his woke TRA friends, aka men in drag and having one of them lecture the 14th Doctor. Solution? The BBC need to fire Gatwa and Davies and go back to basics.
