There are no illegitimate children, perhaps illegitimate parents; the children should not be labeled. ❤️
@teaCupkk2 жыл бұрын
Nonsense. Those children are damaged goods and should be labelled accordingly. These half-orphans inherit the weaknesses of their parents, be it a bad temperament or week moral fiber. At the very least, they are saddled with misfortune, and a lack of proper care as they grow up. Let them wear the stigma.

No entirely true...father's of the lower class were shamed for illegitimate children. If a child were conceived out of wedlock...it was expected that the father would marry the mother...if he didn't he was considered a man of ill repute as well. Certainly not as shamed as the mothers, but not glorified either. The vast majority of people in history were living hard and oppressed lives...Men and women alike.

My nieces were born out of wedlock, all 3 with the same father, my parents never had any problem with it nor shunned my sister. It is ridiculous to give humans the phrase "illegitimate" as if they are not a whole, proper person if a made up ceremony and vows makes children born to married couples "superior". There are plenty who have long relationships until death that don't marry and divorce is on the rise and those children pushed between 2 houses.
@ShellL2 жыл бұрын

Since that was the legal term for an illegitimate child, it wasn't disgusting at all. On the other hand, getting permission from the judge to use a racial epithet in court (a common practice in the Jim Crow era) was disgusting.

Appearing on one census with your grand-parents doesn't necessarily mean you're living with them. It could just be that you just happened to be spending the night of the census there. As a child, I certainly spent the night at my grand-parents' house occasionally.
