And someone said: "Das gibt es ja gar nicht" which is an expression to express astonishment but is also literally means "That does not exist" So he decided to take the joke further and made the website about the Bielefeld-Conspiracy.

I wanna give my opinion on "was ist denn mit Karsten los?". Imo, people don't make fun of him or his illness, it's more the combination of the bizarre situation itself, plus that the TV station decided not to cut the scene out and the absolute monotonous, almost bored voice of the narrator asking what's up with him, only to conclude that this doesn't look good, like no shit, Sherlock. For me, it's the combination of those four things, that make this meme so legendary. But i actually feel sorry for Karsten and don't make fun of him.

As to the Michel video, I find it really hard to watch, because that is exactly what happened to a neighbor of mine. Her twin toddlers, about about three at the time, tried to climb up a cupboard, which toppled over and killed one of the boys… Very tragic incident!

Bielefeld gibt es nicht. Well, there is a german kontext to it that I will try to explain to you: "das gibt es doch nicht" is like "ahhh, come on" compared to the english. But, to say "das gibt es nicht" , also means that does not exist or like "that can't be true!"...Ther must have been that one day someone say "Bielefeld, that can't be true"...and ther the myth began...! Funny random story- But even me as am east German knows about it!
