9:48 The song Erika, written in 1938, by a nacional socialist writer and composer, was a popular marching song of the german wehrmacht during World War II. It was also an important propaganda tool for the National Socialists. Even after the war, it was still very popular.

The song was writen by a Nazi for the Nazis. Used by Nazi propaganda. Used by right wing internet trolls. And on top of all that it's borderline sexist. How is it not problematic again? (In this video it is used sarcasticaly, which would not work if it did not have this baggage).
@CatzHoekАй бұрын
The amount of tooling that was created for this. You'd load your tampermonkey/greasemonkey scripts that had the definitions of how the artworks were supposed to look and which areas should be defended and your scripts'd do all the work. You just had to keep the r/place tab open. ppl made a TON of alt accounts, which is kinda weak but that's what happened. Thousands on people were on the r-de place discord, dozens of organizers. Dedicated artists working on pixel art while several dozens of people sat in a stage channel and proposed possible collaborations or topics that could be depicted. It had a political vibe with an eye on the whole society. Not the wild west of people randomly clicking pixels.

Hey Mert, I have been watching your videos for a few years now and I always found them very enjoyable. If I could suggest a video about german culture (I'm from Saxony in Germany) for you to watch and comment on, I would recommend "The greatest hero of the universe (is no one you already know...)" by Perryversum (its like 5 minutes). I'm a huge fan of this german science fiction series and for some reason (language barrier?) nobody seems to have heard about it, even though it had a stable fan community for its entire runtime (60+ years) and has broken so much new ground and influenced a lot of other things (some rumor that even Star Wars creators took notice). I dearly hope you listen to my recommendation! Sincerely, A long time fan.

Erika is a old Folk song that to my understanding, Adolf Hitler used as a sord of Marching song. Please correct me if I'm wrong because that is how I as a german think the song was used and because I never dug deeper into the use of this song during ww2 and the meme nowdays besides being used in very NSDAP fashion, emphasis on the NS There is also a 2nd video explaining it a bit better in my opinion but everyone likes different styles. the video: Creator: RvNx Mango Title: Wie Deutschland r/place dominierte Thumbnail: German flag with a quadratic speech bubble with the headline "r/place" and the below stated text "Sprich Deutsch du Hu********" (the censored word in english mean son of a bitch or whore and is censored in the thumbnail and for a authentic describtion I chose to also censor the profane word)

"Erika" is a marching song created in 1938 and was used by the Wehrmacht. It's a song about the wifes of soldiers waiting for their return. Not an indexed SS song btw. And even way later used by the Austrian Bundesheer. Any uneducated fool on the right side of politics will try to use it for NS propaganda. And any uneducated fool on the left side of politics will therefore try to convince you this was hardcore etthno state propaganda. (#FCKNZS and #FCKAntifa, if you both weren't enemies, you'd be working together. Your behaviors are cut from the same cloth.) Peace out and thank you Mert for this reaction ❤

"auf der heide blüht ein kleines blümelein" ("on the heath a little flower blooms") is a german folk song that became famous through herms niel's interpretation. it originated in the 1930s and was often sung by soldiers during world war ii, giving it a historical connection to that time. the lyrics speak of love, longing, and homeland, which resonated with many. however, the song is also controversial today due to its ties to the propaganda culture of that era. it remains an example of how music and history are intertwined - a melody that evokes both nostalgia and reflection.

Explanation what the song "Erika" is It's basically the most famous German marching and military song although it's a very simple song it's a about a flower and a girl named Erika. It was made in the Weimarer Republic but only really used by the Wehrmacht that's why people like to call it a "Nazi" song although that's wrong. Hasn't anything to do with Nazis only thing is that it was used as a Marching song during the third Reich but it was not invented by the Nazis (Like many other things. They really just used stuff that was already there like the iron cross and the beautiful Kaiserreich flag until 1935 when the swastika flag became the only real flag of the state) And it's basically a meme whenever Germans invade they play this song OR "Preußens Gloria" (Prussias Glory) which was the most famous Prussian marching song and is better than Erika in my opinion.
