Good day Grant. I replace all 3 filters every 3 months. I do check after month1 the condition of the filters as it depends on my water usage that I monitor too with a standard water meter.

HI Morrison, Sounds like you either have a lot of sediment in your water or small filters (that block pretty quickly)? What size filters do you have? What are each of the 3 filters you are using... I'm guessing 2 x sediment filters and 1 x carbon filter?

Hey Grant. The filters Im using are the sediment, Carbon and the GAC filter. The size is the smaller one than what you have, about 25mm filter housing. The filters cost is about R60 per month. The water Im filtering is about 4.0 Kl per month

@@SnowyPe Those small filters (10") do block up fairly quickly with 'dirty' water but replacing them every 3 months sounds a bit excessive. The carbon filters should last longer than 3 months, especially at only 4Kl per month (possibly last 6 to 12 months). The small sediment filter might need to be replaced more often (once every 3 to 6 months) but depends on your water... but again filtering 4Kl per month... I would think the sediment filter should last at least 6 months. The Carbon block filters down to around 5 micron. What micron sediment filter are you using? and what size pump?

Hey Grant ! What a lekker video - and then to see you’re local was just the cherry on the cake. The setup in the video is exactly what I’ve been wanting. Just never found the right person to install. Please may I ask who did your install? TMI: I’m at the end of a cup de sac. And the amount of t of sediment that I get coming through my taps is insane! Plus I only have 2 BAR of water pressure… grr ! Thanks for the great information

Hi Jonathan, thanks very much… there are many other rainwater harvesting and water related videos on my channel… think there is also a playlist if you want to see more. I installed it myself… there are two videos on it… one is a how-to and the other is an explanation… both are around 50 minutes long. 2 bar pressure is pretty low. I’m sure a set of sediment filters, if nothing else, will help very much. Send me an email on grantburtonbuilds@gmail.com with your phone number and I’ll get in contact.

So, municipal council have outsourced water filtration to homeowners.

I guess you could say something like that. They have water treatment plants but the water quality is so bad. I even remember a couple months ago receiving a letter from the municipality stating that the water they supply is not fit for consumption and should be boiled if you want to drink it, or also to treat it with chemicals. Welcome to South Africa 😂😂
