Here’s my ranking to upset all the ep3 fans as well as to all the people who hate puppets 9. Last Jedi 8. Rise of Skywalker 7. Force Awakens 6. Phantom Menace 5. Attack of the Clones 4. Revenge of the Sith 3. Star Wars 2. Empire Strikes Back 1. Return of the Jedi Call it overstuffed, call it lousy, call it the entrance of incest into the mainstream, but return of the Jedi is incredible. Starting out with a heist that could not possibly have better cinematography, bringing down Jabba’s entire crime ring. Then you got Luke going to finish his training only to find out that he’s ready. Then you get the answer to Empire’s “There is another”, as well as why Luke reached out to leia while he was dangling above bespin. Then you get the ewoks on endor who made every young kid want a treehouse village in their backyard. That speeder chase is iconic. There’s so much humor with 3PO being the God despite him having the lowest status out of the Falcon crew. There’s a plot a/b mission between deactivating the Death Star shield and blowing it up which leads to a the best space battle that ends with a space station blowing up in all of Star Wars. Crazy how that’s a category. Then you have the amazing battle on endor that utilises handmade home alone traps to destroy the empires ground force. And I haven’t even started to talk about Luke having his final brawl with Vader as he’s forced to choose between giving into his anger or combatting the emperor and Vader with a peaceful approach. Also force lightning. Vader turns good. Vaders real face reveal. And the ending is beautiful with a magical ewok celebration on endor with loads of good guys. Luke puts his father to the flame knowing he found enlightenment before death. The force ghosts even appear. And Yknow that’s about it or whatever.

And the sequel trilogy first film is a reshoot of a new hope so by default OT. second film is the greatest sequel in history revealing the villain as a fallen hero and the third is his redemption and his son’s triumph! 3-0 Villain (Vader), hero (Luke), duterovillian (emperor), side kicks (Han, Leia, Chewie, Droids and later Lando! Side characters, Fett, Janna, obi wan, yoda, Ackbar, on and on! Adjusted for inflation the originals are 1 (nh),3 (esb) and 6 (roj) all time. Fights may go to prequels (maul died too early) but at the end of the day cinematography and impact on OT is beyond anything CGI can do! This is a blowout 16-1-0 no contest!
