In the 90’s Tony was my absolute hero. I hope he gets a chance to shine again.

I read an interview in the Guardian with him that actually made me cry, it was just so sad what his troubled mind did to him. He was a very talented, educated man on stage film and improv. But somehow hes resilient which is great.

Tony Slattery is like a combination of what is great in both the American improvisers as well as the British. Quick mainstream humor like an American and the dry humor and intellectual wit of a British improviser. Brilliant. He could have continued on and gracefully adapted into the WLIIA in America. It's a shame he had some severe personal issues to deal with.

Tony, Greg, Colin, and Ryan are my favorite group of castmembers. I was so bummed out when I looked up Tony and found out that he had so many mental health issues he was struggling with. I'd love for him to have a comeback.

Why does there always have to be a debate about which version is better? I like both versions about equally. The UK version had a wider variety of great performers, but the US version has more banter and inside jokes. They balance each other out, in my sight.

@TheAlexsus UK is BETTER. Hey, it's got Ryan, Colin, Greg, etc; and if they weren't originally on the UK version, they would've never have been on the US. (Plus the UK got away with a ton of censored material, which makes this show 5 times better).

Sad they got rid of him and never brought him back, even for the American episodes.
@pemo26762 жыл бұрын
@@djargus its because of his bipolar disorder. he had a breakdown and disappeared for years, i dont think he ever really got back into comedy much after that. a few appearances, and he was in a few documentaries (talking about his experience in cambridge working with stephen fry, hugh laurie, and some others as a comedy troupe)
@djargus2 жыл бұрын
@@pemo2676 I know why it happened, I just wish Tony would be welcomed back for a reunion show or some special on the US version (maybe do something similar to the Christmas special they had, where I think there were 6 rather than just 4 performers at a time on stage; 3 could be guests from the old UK Whose Line, such as Tony, Paul Merton, Mike McShane and other favorites.

@MrHamlet64 thanks a ,lot! =( you made me stop, re-watch the clip, count his syllables, and listen for stresses ! counting no and wait his lines have 1,1,9 and 9 syllables. You're right it's not iambic pent' but the symmetry and rhyming does remind me of Dr Seuss. Great=( now I have to look up whether Dr Seuss ever used iambic pentameter. Botheration =S

@MrHamlet6413 жыл бұрын
@rkcoaster7 Actually iambic pentameter lines have ten syllables with alternating stresses (da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM). Tony's lines had nine syllables with stresses all over the place.
@MrHamlet6413 жыл бұрын
@RespectYourViews I think this is the first time someone responded to one of my posts that was this old, not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. I have to admit the "safety proceedures" bit did sound like Seuss.

Coming back to this, I forgot how uneasy the atmosphere was when Greg Proops would take jabs at Clive Anderson. I dunno if they didn't like each other or get along, but man, Greg Proops was always talking shit in almost every episode, and it was said in just a certain way where you could tell that Greg Proops was serious with the stuff he was saying sometimes. Like I get it, guys insult each other, it's funny. And maybe the ongoing jabs from Proops was just something he picked up on as being funny to the audience, but I remember sometimes he would just unload of Clive Anderson with backhanded, passive aggressive stuff. I don't remember Proops doing that with any of the cast members, only Anderson. Always kinda put me off when Clive would just kinda nervously smile and laugh it off very awkwardly. When another member of the line up riffs on Clive, you can obviously tell they are ONLY riffing on him as a joke, sometimes Proops seems genuinely like he's insulting the guy though. I also remember from the Drew Carrey one where Proops and Drew almost started arguing for real, and I vaguely remember it happening between Clive Anderson and Proops. Maybe Proops is just a big dickhead who takes it too far, I dunno. Still one of my favorites on the lineup regardless.

I saw it advertise while ago, n it my annoyance it was the American one. It was TERRIBLE.Even funny people like Ryan n Colin , seemed bit flat, over the top n slightly like they wernt improvising. was slow to.. Be GR8 if Tony cud sort it out n make a comeback..
