Well most 18 years old never had a full time job and don’t got the experience in what the world is like. I just finished school and I’d I didn’t have full time job and struggling 2 years I would have voted Democrats. That might not work. The court struck down the preclearance formula for being outdated. Congress can pass a new formula and in future it would need updating. So even if it was in the constitution you need to somehow deal with the updating. It is probably not likely to pass congress as an amendment if the senate wouldn't even vote on the new voting rights act. Democrats struggle for a simple majority in the senate, they aren't getting a 2/3 majority. Nor will all those red states vote for it.

I live in Brazil. The rest of the world is constantly saying that our democracy is weak (frankly, some parts of our country say that too). But as "thrid world country" as you may held us, since the 1988 Constitution, voting is not a problem for us. It is, in fact, an obligation. There is even a fine: 3,50 BRL, which is nealy 0,7 USD. I know it sounds weird, but we have an historical vote turnout of about 80%, which means that 20% of the people do not vote at all. Since 16 years old you are eligible to vote upon registration. Women, indigenous people, iliterate people, white, black, yellow, blue or whatever can vote. We vote on sundays, which is not a work day. The schools are converted into voting pools. So you can vote very close to where you live. All you need is a government issued id with a photograph on it. I know this sound excluding for americans, but this is the most common thing in Brazil. You need one of those for everything here and is free and very easy to have one issued. Registration is needed once in your lifetime, basically. You only need to re-register if your address changes. Recently we've had a recall for all voters to go to a voting registration place to have their digitals registerd so the voting machines can only be used upon biometric recognition, reducing voter fraud (which have never been a problem, but it makes the process more reliable). In areas difficult access, the voting machines are transported even by boat to make sure people can vote. The political rights (right to vote or to be voted on) cannot be repeald. It is suspended if you are an inmate only for the time of your conviction - if your sentence is completed, you are free to vote automatically.

Here in Canada, the registration process to vote can take place on the day of the election at the polling center. All you need is proof of address and photo ID, or should you not have those things, you can have someone from your district come with you to the polls to vouch for your proof of identity. When you submit your taxes, you can check to see that you're registered to vote. We have had vote-by-mail for ages for Canadian voters submitting their ballots from overseas, and our military officials stationed abroad. We have advanced polling days to reduce the influx of people showing up on the day of the election, we have a substantial number of volunteers to collect the ballots safely, and the role of Elections Canada is to ensure the security and privacy of those ballots. See what the States have done, and how feverishly the Republican Party has been stripping the rights of American citizens from participating in the democratic republic they covet, is truly unsettling to watch. And it makes me angry that Canadians, gifted with all this infrastructure to ensure their ballots are counted, only to show up in dwindling numbers is appalling. We don't know how good we've got it here, and I'm always disappointed to hear of people (my own family included) who chose not to vote despite there being no barriers obstructing them to do so. What other people clamor for, equal representation in government, they only deign to use when they feel like it. This should be a wakeup call to anyone who idly sits back on election day and says their vote doesn't matter; or who complain about politics without even making the bare minimum effort to engage in public policy. Look how easily and how quickly that RIGHT can be stripped away from us, and why we must never allow partisanship to overrule the majority will of the people. We are too complacent nowadays, and quick to complain, but slow to act. I hope that everyone watching this realizes that this battle doesn't end at the US borders - it's everywhere that claims itself to be a fair democracy. Nothing should be taken for granted, nothing is guaranteed, all rights are earned and should be safeguarded, for they can easily be stripped away in the wrong hands.

I’m México is more or less the same way, you don’t need to be registered. You just show up at the poll center with you ID, that look for you and give you the ballot. I currently live in the US and I can’t believe a developing country like Mexico has a better voting system than the US.

Here are a couple major solutions to deal with this. Proportional representation; allow for proportional representation based on percentage of the full vote. Abolish the electoral system. Make the president only elected through the popular vote. Ban all lobbying and create a public fund for campaigns; any politician who's caught being offered corporate donation will be banned from holding political office for the rest of their life plus a 10,000 dollar fine.

@@Wermified The context in which the electoral college was made was in a time when the cities had a large propertyless population and when people without property could not vote which was again, the largest population. It was convenient for the founding fathers to have electoral college to prevent popular votes where the massive poor population voted in people who would definitely favor the poor against the rich. So you're correct when you say it wouldn't be fair to smaller populations because if the poor constantly vote out wealthy people out of their position in favor of working class candidates then that's too bad to those smaller populations. The cost of real Democracy is that if you're in the minority you will lose every single time. So if abolishing the electoral college creates a favorable result to the cities then that's something you have to deal with. Besides I'm a fan of proportional representation, that just means you can elect your local governors to your desirable party.

In Australia before the pandemic you had to have a reason to apply for a postal vote and early voting opened the Monday before Election Day on the Saturday. Since the very first election during the pandemic they permanently allowed postal voting without a reason and extended the start of early voting to 2 weeks before the election.

Seeing something like this makes me so much more grateful that my country has a world class electoral system. We have one of the worlds highest voter turnouts, ease of registration (most of us do it through school in our final year) a strong public trust and engagement in the system, we are given numerous avenues to vote, either by mail, early, in-person on the day (and it’s always a saturday) or at any embassy or consulate in the world. And above all we have an independent Electoral Commission that oversees the entire process, preventing government influence or state level meddling
