I found WW II Mausers ('sporterized'), my Savages, and a few others to be quite sensitive to stock screw tension. The 3 Savages with poly stocks showed me this best. Also my Kimber 84 (7mm-08) shot horribly and I knew it was factory bedded. I backed out the screws and snugged 'em back up in steps. 2 1/2" at 100yd to 1 1/2", and it's ammo-fussy too.

Agree. Boyd’s stocks are fine, but really need to be bedded with something like Marine Tex or Devcon before they’re “complete”. ESPECIALLY with a higher recoiling cartridge like that 300 PRC. I’ve bedded several with JB weld which worked well, but I probably wouldn’t use that on any magnum cartridge. Use something with a high PSI crush rating.

Same in my experience. Had Howa’s in following calibers, .270, .30-06 and 6.5x55 all going into Boyds stocks. All of these were horrible until bedded, and I also added pillars. One could clearly see how the recoil lug was hammering the stock on the inside.

A couple things. 1, The rise in elevation could be from early barrel break-in and the bullets getting faster due to the reduction in friction as the new rifling gets smoother. (I don’t even know if that’s a thing) But give it a couple dozen more shots before loosing faith in the Howa. 2, CHECK THE SCOPE FOR MOVEMENT! My buddy has a 300prc Christensen that took us three sets of scope rings to get the scope to stay put. 3, I’ve known two Howa’s, both were .5” MOA. 4. It is definitely harder to get Magnum rifles to stack bullets. Most of my consistent tight shooters are sub 30-06.

Many of these comments point to why everyone should own a torque screwdriver. It’s the only way to confirm if anything has changed after those initial shots from a new rifle and scope setup. And this is especially true for the larger calibers that produce greater recoil. Pick any system and when there’s a sudden change in performance, something has changed.

Mine had a real heavy , bad trigger, a peened action and a wood chip embedded in to the stock where the action fits, front action screw too long hitting the bolt so they left it loose, I fixed all that and put a better butt pad on. Spent a long time chasing zero and accuracy on that skinny barreled savage 30-06. Refined my rifle rest so the cross hairs don't move. Finally got a .675" group. @rockhavenfarms72137 ай бұрын
Possible reasons. Scope mounting, improper scope contact with rings. Shift at ring to base plate. Shift at base plate to action. Action, the barrel may be coming into contact with the stock, this is a no go on the 1500. The action to stock contact point may be inefficient at the recoil lug, the 1500 uses a square style recoil lug and skim bedding is almost always required for precision work.

Having worked in the Weatherby shop from 1983 to 1996, the Vanguard, made by Howa, always shot best when the barrel was bedded and bedded in the proper location. We tried and tried free floating, especially when we started the fiberglass and plastic stocks. These Howa barrels, which are highly accurate, need to be bedded. Find the right spot and you will not get near the degree of variance you experienced in this video. I also did some consulting with Howa after leaving Weatherby. They make a great product.

Often times the reduced recoil will help you shoot better, but alternatively in some barrels it may negatively impact your barrels harmonics.. you usually just have to experiment a little to know how your suppressed rifle will shoot with your intended ammunition.

1rst thing, Unless you want a broken extractor in the near future, stop chamber loading your rounds. Howa actions are pretty bad about that. Those extractors aren't made to snap around the case head, they are made to be fed into. 2nd, I am also a big fan of bedding Boyd stocks. They are great budget stocks and you definitely get your moneys worth but just about any action is much better served with a good bedding job. And as one other poster noted, I have also found Howa actions to be VERY sensitive to screw torque values. Only action I have ever seen as sensitive was an old Weatherby I bought years ago. Damn near wrapped that thing around a fencepost. Couldn't get better than 2.5" group after 100 different combinations. Finally landed on screw tension. Once I found the correct torque (called a smith that specialized in Weatherby rifles) damned if that thing doesn't shoot .5 to .75 and will eat about anything from 180 grain to 225gr !!!

I have a browning x bolt western long range that loves the hornady ammo. 300 prc is a monster

If you left the ammo in the sun while your rifle cooled, you increased the pressure of the round. This will change your impact point. It's an old trick of snipers to increase range.

have you done the recommended barrel breaking procedure?

Barrel brake in is a myth
@aryamoshrefi4177 ай бұрын
@@WHOTEEWHO maybe but when the manufacturer themselves recommend that, I tend to listen!

You had my attention with cheapest 300 PRC rifle and groups. Then I realized it was a Howa and already knew at the 1:00 mark it will group.

Sometimes, barrel break-in is a real thing. Give it some more rounds down range and see if it settles in.

I wouldn't condemn it yet until it is broken in and you have tried some other loads through it. Also play around with torque settings on action screws a bit.

I'll buy a new rifle months from now and this set up looks 👌 awesome. Tho I think 338 lapua still has my attention 🤔. I have 6 months to decide. Let's keep on watching videos to see what life has to offer 😀.

You won’t regret the Lapua. The 28 Nosler has my attention for next year. Good luck mate, Australia

I can never shoot good groups with that same led sled with my 300s always do way better off bags.. which do you prefer and why ?
@WHOTEEWHO7 ай бұрын
Groups are same for me. Break the trigger same place every time

Looking forward to your ammo tests with this one. Frankly, for a too long spaghetti barrel with a magnum cartridge the precision with the ELD-M isn’t that bad. Most of the 300 PRC tests I have seen didn’t produce stellar results. And the cold bore shift isn’t a surprise with that barrel profile.

You are where you need to be with the “the cheapest 300 PRC” Maybe try the following WTW as I have a 300 PRC too 👍 Clean the barrel throughly I know you said you have done it but check your torque settings. My actions came loose after a number of shots. Add weight the sled as you can see your lead sled twisting to the right after some shots Try a group without the can and try a muzzle brake if recoil is too harsh If you really want to shoot that rifle long range buy a chassis and get the rifle to fit you. Add weight to the rifle to lessen that recoil if it’s going to be for long range. Try different brands and bullet weights if you are staying with factory ammo. Bullets will speed up after barrel break in so don’t pay too much attention just yet. That 300PRC Barrett you shot is a different league but you can still build that Howa to be nice! What is the twist rate on the Howa? Great videos keep up the great work WTW

1:10 twist. I found other ammo it likes much better
