id like to see it used in another plate video line up and see how they compare, i use 7mm-08 vs 7mm mag due to simply it eats a lot less powder than the mag, as well as there really isnt to much of a trade off of energy, velocity, and super sonic range. A lot cheaper on the reloading, you get all the benefits of the mag but in a small package

Hey bud, Not knockin your sighting in skills, but a wise man told me one day. Aim at your intended target, shoot a round. Now aim at the hole you just shot, and with the gun in the vise, turn your scope dials until your scope lines up with the intended target. This should get you there in just a couple rounds.

7mm-08 has long been considered the perfect deer cartridge, especially with a 140 bullet. Recoil is very similar to a 6.5 Creedmoor. A bit more but not enough to notice between the two. I've hunted with my original 270 Winchester through a older 80's Remington 700 BDL since I was a kid. I worked hard for that rifle on the farm and bought it brand new in the early 80's. 2 years ago I tore my rotator cuff quite badly and had shoulder surgery, and bought a Savage 110 with Accustock and Accutrigger in 7mm-08. Great cartridge and drops deer and larger animals with ease. I use 140's for deer. I would try 175's if I get lucky enough to draw an Elk tag in Pa. To me its the flatter shooting 6.5 with the ability for more power for bigger game with heavier bullets. I believe 7mm-08 was designed as a replacement for the great 7x57 Mauser. My son now uses my good old .270. I dropped a 132" 9 point buck first season out with the 7mm-08 at 175yds one shot behind the shoulder. He just swayed back and forth for a few seconds and fell over dead on the spot.

Remington model 7 stainless synthetic, 7mm-08, 120 Barnes TTSX at just over 3000 fps equals amazing deer rifle. Lots of people use the 7mm-08 for elk, Craig Boddington's daughter used one to take an eland. I am sure there are better rounds for animals that big but then again I took my eland with a .308 Winchester. Not enough difference between the 7mm-08 and it's parent case to worry about. Bullet placement and a good bullet that stays together and penetrates is way more important then shooting them with the most recent super mag.

@nicholasbarcomb23244 жыл бұрын
Usually if the scope is 1/4" per click at 100 yds which equals 4 clicks per inch, you can multiply that by 4 for 25 yds. So, if you are 2 inches right at 25 yds, that'll equal 32 clicks.
@eddiewindom14074 жыл бұрын
Acquired a 7-08mm (Browning) in '95 with a Nikon scope. "Dead-Nut' at 200 yards and have put down whitetails in across the field shots at well over that. Love the short-action and shorter barrel (used to use 30-30's for brush and .270 for longer fields) and this rifle replaced them both. Very underrated caliber and with 140gr rounds, is a complete all-around caliber that always gets the job done! Oh, and I seemingly can always find rounds in this 'Covid-era' where you can't find the popular rounds nearly as much. I'd like to see some 300+ shots coming from this gun/caliber.

Good vid. I agree with Gunsncars advice. You don't use up so much ammo by firing one shot (usually at 25yds) and then holding the gun rock steady and having someone work the scope adjustments to put the cross hairs on the hole you just made but be aware the movements will be in the opposite direction. Meaning if you want to move the cross hairs to the right you need to turn the adjustments left. I live in western Canada and I have shot moose, elk, black bear, whitetail (300lb bucks) and mule deer (300lb bucks) using Hornady Superformance GMX 139gr which print sub 1" groups in my Remington CDL. It also shoots Fed Fusion 140gr ammo the same but other brands vary. It's a very accurate and underrated caliber. My first actual kill with it was a Blue Mountain Grouse at about 40yds that took the head off.

i had this problem in the seventies--when you have to adjust the scope so far away from its center, you need bases that are windage adjustable. re-center the reticle and make adjustment in the bases, then when you are close use the scope to adjust and fine tune. sometimes the manufacturer gets the holes wrong on the receiver or you get some crap bases. either way, making the scope do these big corrections is not good and sometimes not even possible. the 7-08 is a slight refinement to the superb 7mm mauser-one of the greatest low recoiling rounds of all time.

You and I are pretty close. If he was 2 inches off at 10 yards,...I extrapolate that to 20 inches at 100 yards. At 1/2 inch per click at 100,..that would be 40 clicks.

What I do to sight in my rifles is I take a big ol piece of white paper at 100 yards and stick I bright red paint sample square in the middle then put the crosshairs on the top left corner and walk the shots in till I put 5 in that corner because the paper is so large you’ll see how far off you are and adjust accordingly I’m usually zeroed in about less than 5 shots

Try this sometime, if you have iron sights and a scope. Get both set at 100 yards. Shoot both at separate targets for the best group..... Everyone who’s ever went to the range with me says they don’t know why I even bother with a scope. I shoot tighter groups with iron sights. Maybe it’s that eye position/parallax thing with a scope? My eyesight is well above 20/20, you know, reading the bottom line on an eye chart. Even the finer print at the bottom. But if you notice you are having issues with scope shooting, remember about consistency of eye position. The parallax issues. And try iron sights, especially the small, fine sights like on a Savage Hog Hunter, Winchester 70, or Remington 700. They will probably need adjusted just like a scope. Maybe try some sight paint. You might surprise yourself, and if only shooting 125 yards or less, you might even ditch the scope. It’s really a confidence thing at that distance. Rifles are just as accurate with iron sights.

So many have sniper fantasies and can't hit a paper plate at 300 yards as a minimum. The 7mm-08 is a super flat shooting caliber and is capable of all North American game. Thanks again for another great video!!

7mm-08 is basically an improved modern 7x57Mauser and I've never heard any serious critique of a 7mm Maurer. If one is good so is the other. Similarly 6.5 Creedmoor duplicates 6.5x55 Swedish a round that has serious following. Just that until recently most Americans weren't into metric calibers so not a lot of assimilated info on their performance. Visa versa in Europe aside from NATO calibers Europeans not familiar with American cartridges. It is what it is.

Great little all around caliber. Give a look at the Browning A-bolt. Price wise I believe that you will like it as well. Additionally, Browning is the parent company for Winchester. So give a look at the Winchester rifle as well. How about a little change of pace... a modern muzzle loader... Thompson Center or CVA. Break open, breach plug for 209 primer, close breach and powder and bullet. ... simple and reliable and accurate to 100 yards... There are some competition shooter building them in BENCHREST style. Longer, heavy barrel, hot primer, hot powder load, bullet...... very accurate...

@ronthompson23664 жыл бұрын
@@WHOTEEWHO But well worth it in quality. However the A-bolt is the economical model, the X-bolt the higher priced model. Additionally, there is a Winchester equivalent to the A-bolt. But yes, you can pay more. But the quality is very much worth the price. Still be interesting in seeing you cross over to the dark side... and try out your marksmanship rifle skills with a modern muzzle loader.... I think you might enjoy it...keep up the good work.

2” right at 10 yds is 20” right at 100 yds. If your scope is 1/4 MOA per click, that should be 80 clicks to the left...

To speed things up, if it’s that bad off, most scope turrets have 27 clicks per half turn. Just a little faster to figure if you need 1/2 turn, 1 turn, 1.5 turns than to count clicks. And my best high-recoil scope doesn’t have clicks, so it’s good to know how much 1/4 or 1/2 turn moves the bullet.
@f5tornadeau4 жыл бұрын

It used to be quite common for this to happen in all but the most expensive scopes . I got into the habit of giving the turret a couple of light taps or in the bigger calibers fire a couple of rounds after each adjustment. It was quite usual when adjusting a scope to get nothing nothing nothing too much. Things have improved over the last few years , Ive started using Vortex scopes which sight in pretty easy.

As always I love your videos. This may help you when sighting in your rifles. Sight in dead on at 25 yards. On MOST Scopes 1 Click equals 1/4” at 100 yards, so to move your POI 1” you’d need 4 Clicks at 100 yards. At 25 yards you’d need 16 clicks to move it 1”. Sighting in dead on at 25 yards puts you dead on at about 250 yards and about 2” - 21/2” at 100 yards. Give this a try next time.

In my youth I got the Magnum Bug and hunted with a 7mm Rem Mag. For a while I even hunted with a 375 H&H. As old age snuck up on me a friend loaned me his 7mm/08. I hunted with it for a couple of years. First it was lighter and kicked a hell of a lot less. It was more accurate and everything I hit was just as dead as if I smacked it with that 7MM Mag. In fact there was more game left to eat. Try a 18.5 to 20 barrel and you will have very handy and fast handling South Texas Deer and Hog rifle. I've got many Very Powerful rifles but I like to make it easy on myself. Just one old Farts Opinion!

I've been wanting a .280 AI (Ackley Improved) because it's as accurate as a 7mm magnum without the recoil. Plus you can also shoot the .280 remington; which it was derived from

What scope are you using is it what came with the gun if so well you can do better and for just a bit more money. Ruger makes good firearms I have several. Rifles pistols I enjoy shooting.
