I am now seventh one and have used the .270 Win for sixty one years. I've hunted from the top of yhe world(Yukon) to the nottom of the world(South Africa). I've shot every thing from groundhogs to grizzly bear, to 2,000/2500lb eland. Most animals were one shot kills. The .270 is more wicked and capable than most hunters will ever imagine. Glenn

My .270 is the reason I still haven’t purchased a 6.5 Creedmoor, the .270 will handle any deer-sized game in North America. But I also have a wide variety of old-man cartridges such as .243, .25-06, .308 and .30-06. A wide variety is a great way to beat ammo shortages.

Agree 100 percent. I own a Creedmoor And it’s a great round but it’s been blown way out of proportion. I shoot it out to 1000 and it’s fantastic but there’s a lot of great calibers that have been out for many years that will do as well if not better on deer size game.
@ryanlane4282 Жыл бұрын
New rounds are interesting. But those old man cartridges aren’t going anywhere. They are easy to find, and will drop whatever you shoot with them. And they are still very capable out to quite a distance
@acort10 Жыл бұрын
No need for a creedmoor with that range of calibers. I have a 30-30 and 270 and bought a cheap 6.5 creedmoor to see what the craze was about. I’m not impressed. I’ve killed a few deer and hogs with it but I don’t like tracking in the south texas brush. I do have a 6.5 Grendel 18” AR and that has surprised me dropping deer and pigs out to 200yards

A 2" high "Zero" at 100 yards will give you a Point Blank Range of much greater distance. One could easily hold center of chest on a deer and make a 300 yard shot without having to adjust elevation turret. Nice rifle WTW!! Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
@someguy55433 жыл бұрын
I agree. I always set my Sako 30-06 with 165 grain bullets to shoot two and three quarter inch at 100 Is gave me a dead on zero at 275 yds.
@michaelrobards33303 жыл бұрын
A 26 yard zero has the same affect,but it puts the bullet at almost 3" from a. 243-.300 mag,giving you a point blank range from 25-310 yards.
@michaelrobards33303 жыл бұрын
@@someguy5543 ,that is the exact principle behind the 26 yard zero. I also shoot 165 grain .30-06 and 100 gr .243. Consecutively it puts the 06 six inches low at 310,and the .243 2.65" low at 310 yards. Much simpler to sight in,without a shooting table,and having a flat 100 yard range to shoot.

Awesome video. The .270 Winchester is probably my all time favorite deer hunting rounds and I have put a lot of venison in the freezer with it. I’m shooting a 1980s Remington Model Six and it is a sweet rifle/cartridge combo. I was skeptical about a pump action rifle when I first bought it, but it is accurate and fast shooting. I’m hunting thick woods and an occasional field or clearing. So most of my shots are under 100 yards, but you might get 150 or 200. That.270 has always performed well for me.

If you reload your .270 or find a 130gr factory round traveling 3080 at the muzzle you will be 3 inches high at 150 yards and 3 inches low at 300 yards if you zero at 27 yards. A perfect 300 yard rifle setup. You will always be within 3 inches of your point of aim. 25yds = 0.11 inch high, 50yds = 1 inch high, 100yds = 2.5 inch high, 150yds = 3 inch high, 200yds = 2.3 inch high, 250yds = 0.3 inch high, 300yds = 3 inch low. No one ever heard of the 26 yard zero, for most high powered rifles? Sighted in from 1/2" to 1 1/2" low at 25-28 yards puts you in the kill zone from a .243 to a .300 mag from 0-310 yards. Which puts you closer at the extended yardages too. It puts you almost 3" high at 100 and 150,1.5" at 200 and 6-8" low at 300. Easier for me to aim a couple of inches lower,than calculate holding high at different 50 yard increments. If you forget, your still is the kill zone either way. I've been doing this for years!

That rifle needs a good bedding. The impact shift in you 100yd group is textbook bedding. First shot was 1.7 MOA from the the next two.

Cool vid and I always love range time. I have sometimes thought of getting a .270. My handful of .308s have served me well and a few of them I have taken hunting. And my new favorite is the 7 PRC. I know you have had recent good experience. Recently at the Rock Chuck event, you and others discussed best hunting round and you brought up the 7 mm Rem Mag. Maybe I have missed it but do you have a drop video on 7 RM? And will you do one on the 7 PRC? Edited to add, found the drop vid for 7 Mag and 7 PRC. Never mind me being redundant.

The maximum range is always an interesting factoid. 22 lr has warnings on box about 1.5 mile max., that round has a 2.8 mile range👀. A very good reason to NOT take horizon shots.

I’d love to see some 5 shot groups at 500 & 1,000 yards with this and other calibers. 🙏

270 should be zeroed in at about 25 yards. Barrel length and height over bore may change it a bit but on average optimal for both 130 and 150 gr.

I took ten deer last season with a Winchester 270 24 in barrel 130 Winchester ammo.

Let the barrel cool after first shot. And always use the same ammo on zeroing. Pick one type and always use it

Has anybody else ever noticed how the price of some of your really popular deer hunting cartridges goes up quite a bit during deer season?? I really like shooting my bolt action rifles in .270 Win and 30-06 sprg on the longer rifle range just for fun sometimes but I notice during deer season the cost always gets jacked way up. Maybe it's just me but it does seem that way!! And I know it might be a crime to some but yes sometimes I take my two larger caliber rifles out just for fun!!
