I scratched quite a few rocks with mine now over the years and it still almost looks like the day i bought it Those edges of the blades are strong as hell The back of the blade also felt quite strange to me in the beginning but after using it for a while and adjusting the way i hold my paddle when doing a backstroke that also works really well. Sometimes i wish mine (197,55 degrees) was a tiny little bit longer

I had two Lettman paddle in the past 20 years with aluminium sleeve in the middle to connect the two parts and they broke in the sleeve. The difference in stiffness between the aluminium joint and the carbon shaft make a week part. Mine just broke last week and I will order the joint to try to repair it. But they are great paddle maybe de joint will improve the durability I wish.

the new joint is all stainless steel I have one with that setup its really good
@marvinmeyer2366
@marvinmeyer2366 4 ай бұрын
Man you got the wrong joint... there is another version (bit more expensive) to choose in configuration which has a different system so it cant open itself (which the reason is you getting on it with i.e. your cloth etc.) and its thicker...

I just ordered a G'Power Harpoon X. It would be interesting to see how the back face compares playboating since Stephen Wright loves his in that application. He did share that in big water it will slip as you mentioned and that his solution was to use a little epoxy.

Nice review, Wade. Reason the blade feels strange on the back of the blade is caused by the forward set blade. On the forward stroke the blade stabilize super fast, on backward stokes it cranks away. The axis of the blade is offset to the axis of the pull (hand). I could not get used to it with rolling, here again it cranks if you your blade has a bit to much negative angle. But it has the best grip for forward strokes by far

It is a great paddle for an open hand vertical paddling style. If you hold the paddle in your fist, the ergo shaft has a negative effect. It is ideal if the paddle shaft is held in the front part of the fingers like a handle of a suitcase.With the first stroke of the paddle, you let the paddle align itself in your hand. Since the shaft is in front of the paddle blade, you don't have to stabilise the paddle with a firm grip, it stabilises itself and aligns itself with the water pressure. Of course, when you are at your personal limit, you will hold the paddle less loosely. :-) The style with the more open hand has an effect on the whole hand-arm-shoulder system, you align yourself wonderfully with the water pressure. The paddle should be extended by a maximum of 5 cm (2 inches). It is not a light paddle, but a very stable one. The two-part paddle is also very good for the plane as hand luggage. Have fun with the beautiful Lettmann paddle!

I have a G'Power Twister X-creek that also has a connector, but it isn't metal and isn't marked like this one. I love the flexibility on length and feather, I plan on going for a 90 offset when I'm racing. Right now I'm using 200 R45 for downriver. I feel like the blades on the twister are just about the same as what I'm seeing in your review and also I felt that same odd buoyancy when I first started using it, and it took some getting used to. One question, you mentioned having to get used to rolling with it, but you didn't go into any detail, what's the issue with rolling?
@WadeHarrison

I got a straight shaft from Seth Holloway a month or so back and took it in a Colorado river Multi day trip. And I have to say this paddle is sick Seth was telling me to maybe go with the crank shaft but I wanted a stronger paddle for that price and it’s extremely light compared to my bent shaft shogun.

Thanks for the review. I've watched this and your Gpower twister review. How are these paddles for downriver play? Stern prys/ reverse sweeps? I was told by G'Power that their paddles only have a 10cm adjustment on the straight shaft and that the bent shaft I ordered only has a 5cm adjustment, so that is pretty cool the paddle Wade demoed can adjust up to 10cm. You would have to check with Lettmann but if they are like G'Power, then you decide the minimum length you want when making a custom order. I don't think the 194cm to 204cm that Wade used is set in stone...that is what that person chose. Not for sure, but I assume you could order a minimum length of whatever you're comfortable with to attain both goals?
