Good you added that battery switch. I have the same setup. What I did in addition, in regard of connecting after turning off the battery switch and to avoid spark that could potentially damage components ... I added, in parallel to that battery switch, a resistor in série with a push button. With this I can push the switch for a few seconds, to pre charge, before turning on the power from the battery.

I bought 4 of the Power Queen 12.8 V 200 AH plus batteries when they were recently on sale for $550. This would have been simpler to use but my cost is still better. The batteries work great and I never let them discharge below 60% so I hope they last at least a decade as I need them during the California brownouts.

I wouldn't think balancing would be a problem in a parallel configuration. In any case, I use Ampere Time 24 volt 100 ah batteries. 4 in parallel give me about 9500 watt hours. After one year, there was a slight power loss. I will know more as time goes by but I am hoping price and power will improve by the time these wear out.

The weight of the battery 81kbs, and the capacity testing (267Ah) lead me to think there might be much higher rated cells in there, which may be reclaimed/used. You should consider removing the lid to investigate. Nice video. I may just buy one just out of curiosity .

Ok - so...inconclusive. Basically the cells (8 prismatic cells) are arranged on their sides with the terminals facing each end of the cabinet, making the QR codes inaccessible without pulling the entire thing apart. I don't really want to do that and risk damaging something...so I guess we'll have to wait and see if someone else is willing to do a complete tear-down on one.
@jasonbroom7147 Жыл бұрын
@@ReeWrayOutdoors - 8 cells creating 12.8 volts means it's a 4S-2P configuration. My guess would be 120AH cells, but that does give you just the rated 240AH. A lot of times, with A-Grade cells, they pull more than rated capacity for the first relative handful of charge cycles and then settle in to more or less what they are rated to give. That's probably what you're seeing in this case...8 very well-matched and balanced cells, giving FULL capacity. Those are all signs of a high quality battery build.
@bruceeverett5372 Жыл бұрын
@@ReeWrayOutdoors Thanks for giving it a go! Incidentally, the Powerqueen 410Ah 12v also specs out at the same 81lbs. 8x120Ah cells come to around 51lbs, something besides the metal case is accounting for the 240Ah's heft. There are a few battery makers using "removed" cells and derating (understating) battery capacity.

I was also wondering if these were based on Second Life cells. However, looking at the price - I need to convert from US$ to ZAR - but price wise, I'm leaning toward thinking these are new cells, since 12V 200Ah'ish Second Life batteries here in South Africa are more in the range of about $400, and everything here is around 15% more expensive if we're lucky. So if price is any measure, these certainly feel like new cell prices...

You could also take the four batteries and make them into a 48 V configuration. This would give you better efficiency and your wires could be smaller. Plus, if you’re running it for a house, 24 V will cause a lot of flickering and surges, that a 48 V won’t. 🖖

Would you use battery balancers for series connected batteries. I would think they would be necessary. I have a 24 volt system with four 24 volt batteries in parallel running a 4000 watt inverter. When I upgrade to 240 volt split phase, I might consider a 48 volt system but it appears the range of inverters is a bit limited.
@simon359 Жыл бұрын
@@simplethings3730 I have never used battery balancers, just make sure all your batteries are the same voltage when you wire them together. This can be done with a charger. Anytime you have an inverter over 4000, you need to have a resistor attached to the inverter to suppress the surcharge! As far as finding an inverter, I’m sure there are plenty out there that are 48 V. I prefer Victron inverters. I have a 5000 W Victron 48 V inverter.🖖

Thanks for the video. Perfect timing. Please provide the discount code as soon as possible and I'll order a couple! Quick question. Shouldn't the diagram on the left, at 14:17 have the Neg terminal on the top connected to the Pos on the bottom to complete the series?
@ReeWrayOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Thanks Deon! Regarding the series connection, that not necessary, actually! Simply connecting the POS of one to the NEG of the other is sufficient in a 2 battery setup. :) Although personally, I'd have used the opposite POS and NEG terminals for my Load connections (vs what the chart shows) , but I doubt it makes any difference either way, especially with the dual-terminals. Also, the discount code is available now (Wray3), but it only knocks off about $20. Better than nothing I guess!

@Deon, I just noticed that myself...You are correct, as shown in the diagram there is zero voltage potential, cells are not in series. If the yellow jumper was switched to the two other opposite diagonal posts it would be a 25.6v in series.👍

@ReeWrayOutdoors Жыл бұрын
No. That'd still be risky. Yes, the BMS does have over-voltage and over-current protection, but if you direct connect solar to it, you're going to be constantly tripping the BMS protection and the battery is not going to be charging for much of the time that it could be...AND there's always the possibility that the constant tripping of the protection relays is going to prematurely wear them out. My 2 cents...fwiw.

What do you mean by "balancing"? How ? & why ? & what is the end result ? 🤔
@ReeWrayOutdoors Жыл бұрын
"Balancing" is basiclly the process of getting each battery to a matching state of charge with all the other batteries in a battery bank. Whenever you have multiple batteries connected together to form a battery bank/array (especially in series), you need to take care to try and keep all of the batteries at the same state-of-charge, as much as possible. Over time, without some active balancing system, the individual batteries states-of-charge will naturally drift at different rates (due to a variety of things including choice/length of cable connections, quality of terminations, temperature differential, etc). And when the differences become signficant, you can have a situation where 1 battery reaches a low-voltage cut-off before all the others...and/or...reaches maximum charge voltage before all the others...and effectively reduces the overall usable capacity of the entire battery bank as a result...and worse yet...will create an increasing disparity in the wear on some batteries vs others, which only serves to accelerate the decline in overall usable capacity. It's a vicious cycle if you don't stay on top of it.

What's the difference between the Power Queen vs the Mango?
@NeoVdV Жыл бұрын
I hope someone can help me here. Yesterday I finally got my solar system in order. I got my new battery, Power Queen lithium 12V 300Ah, and it took 15h to get it fully charged and ready. My system is composed of 5x 150Wp solar panels, 3 in parallel to an EpEver Tracer mppt, and 2 other in parallel to an identical mppt. Each come in to their mppt via a 30A automatic fuse. The output of both mppt come together on a bus bar and go from there to the battery and also to a 2500W converter to 12to220V. I have a battery switch on the plus from the battery to the bus bar. Both mppt are set for Lithium. My battery has a 200A BMS with under/over voltage protection. The converter also has protection for over voltage. Over voltage of the BMS is 15V, over voltage of the converter is also fix set at 15V and the mppt is standard 14,8V as over voltage. Now my problem ... The converter goes regularly in over voltage alarm and sometimes total shut off. When a regular alarm occurs the system is shut off for a few seconds, but sometimes it goes into error and then the system shuts off and only can be turned on again by physically turn off the switch on the converter, wait about 30sec and put to switch back to on. But even with a regular alarm, buzzer, the system turns off for a few seconds, meaning that it can be a dangerous situation ... when my pellet stove is on and is cut off when enough pellets are burning, there is no fan for exhaust and I already found myself inside a room full of smoke and fire alarm yelling. Also each time my router turns off and needs to go to a boot up sequence, meaning my internet in down for about 7min. Etc. ... What can I do to make that the voltage stays below the over voltage value ? I first was thinking to put the Victron battery protect module but that would be an overkill and would not help as it would shut down my system as well. Plus I already have protection for over voltage due to the BMS and the converter protections. I had the Juntec battery monitor, 2023 model, but need to return it as it doesn't work, not on my Samsung tablet nor on my iPhone. I ordered the Victron smart shunt and hope to install it tomorrow.

@ReeWrayOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I do appreciate your input. I totally agree with your higher capacity reasoning. And, primarily to satisfy my own curiousity, I've actually have experimented a fair amount on taking capacity measurements. I've found that, at least as pertains to LiFePO4 chemistries, the whole obsession with a 0.2C discharge rate seems to be a bit overhyped since the Peukert Effect is not nearly so significant with LiFePO4 vs lead-acid. I can discharge test on an LFP at 0.1C and then repeat the test at 0.5C and the difference in the resulting capacity is really not all that significant...maybe 10-20Wh out of 1280Wh. I also recently purchased another capacity tester with separate voltage monitoring leads for better accuracy...and again, comparing the results from that vs the one I've been using, I've not found a big enough difference as to be worth obsessing over. Anyway...just my opinions based on my experimentation...

I bought the POWERQUEEN 200Ah Plus and it failed on the first day. Their company still hasn't refunded my money or sent a replacement. #powerqueen #powerqueenus #solar #battery #lifepo4 #greenenergy #offgrid #vanlife #rv #camper #fishing #survival #diy #eco
