This is 100 percent necessary for a ton of stuff. I just recently transitioned from art photography on 4x5 film to high end fashion. I’ve been renting this quite a bit and recently got a gfx for personal use. you have to let the work dictate the job that part is true. The different cameras are more about what you shoot and who your clients are than anything. I make the huge backlit ads that people see on the street or instore. The color is crazy good that’s the real difference true 16bit. it’s also crazy crazy sharp. I use it with the 120 macro and it’s unreal. 100mp of really rich high quality detail. But yeah I would say it’s more like a pick up truck than a Lamborghini. It’s a ton of money but there really aren’t any substitute. I need 100mp often and I’m seriously small time I work with big clients but I’m a baby in the fashion world.

Sea Panther. It really depends on what you get. And where you rent I’ve been renting in Europe lately and it’s about 2500 for a kit. For a few days. But it could more or less But that gets me a whole kit. Which includes a laptop with capture one pre installed. The camera all the tether cables and a couple lenses. I hardly ever deal with the actual logistics tho. I’m sure a lot of photographers work differently but I just kind of make a list where I say what I want and email another person who’s job it is to arrange that. So far I’ve worked for about with 5 brands I’m still kind of new to fashion and out of those 5. 4 had somebody on staff whose job it was to arrange that equipment and just help with production.

I'll disagree, from a sign company and visual marketing agency owner standpoint. It' doesn't matter how hi-res you make a file and send, print media is printed at 300dpi maybe 500 TOPS. Your 100mp isn't necessary at all. Now the photographer in me says that speed of sensor and ability to shoot with near non-existent grain is a good thing. But guess what, a Canon 5D mkIII is plenty fine as well. $40k is a waste and your justification is ridiculous.
@davidalekhuogie8126
@davidalekhuogie8126 6 жыл бұрын
Creative Mofoo. Which means you should know there are practical uses for that much resolution. I actually have a lot more experience working as a professional fine art printer than as a photographer. That’s how I paid the bills as a student. I still do here and there. And yes “most printers print at that 300dpi” . Personally I print at about 360. But that being said if you do your math. A native 100 megapixel file spits out a a print just shy of 40x50in at 300dpi which is common In the art world. Very common. And my backlit fashion work is about 60x80in on the small end. Now with the math out of the way you can totally cheat and push resolution by about 100percent and still get great results. You can even do 200 percent and still get a good print if you stand back. By interpolating and letting the computer make up the extra resolution. Which means the bare minimum you need for a critical 40x50in print is about 50mp. But by no means will it be as good as a 100mp native file. then you deal with enlargement factors and magnification which are even more important. And have to do with the size of the sensor but I don’t want to invite that debate. For example the practical scenarios where you can actually resolve resolution go up along with sensor size. I will say this like everything “there are levels to this” walk into a museum and your likely to find prints from 8x10 film which scaned can easily break 500mp in real resolved resolution. and to be honest if anybody really wants to print super large and have people be able to get right up to a print and see detail I would encourage learning to shoot large format film. It’s pretty affordable and also incredible rewarding and will teach technique like no other camera. But I dunno if your working with a crew or creative team. A digital medium format is pretty handy.what I wouldn’t do is convince yourself a dslr is the same thing. Is a 5dmkiii good enough? probably. Is it the best you can do. Not even close. Life is too short to make mediocre prints if you don’t have to. I get paid to show up to make my work the best I can possibly make it. And I’m aware that from a business standpoint it makes me a little bit rare.

In the early 1960 I was an optical/mechanical engineer with Bell & Howell and we did the modifications and repairs of the Hasselblad and Nikons that went to the Moon. After each mission we check over the cameras and did any work necessary. Because of the helmets and visors of the space suit modifications were necessary on both cameras. It was fun to say I worked on the cameras that were on the moon.

Doesnt look beautiful to me, it has the looks of 1980's tech, sure the pictures look swell though but 40k's worth)...no, the vast majority of photographers will find 100MP files cumbersome and quality differences negligible compared to say a 24Mp camera for anything except super large prints that no one prints anyway.. Plus the feature list will be as basic as a low end mirrorless, no eye autofocus etc. The people that buy this outside of corporation advertising are bling masters showing off to their friends.

for the average photographer, this is not meant for you. this is for the photographer that wants a print big enough to fill the wall of a building or huge poster ad. however, I would take my chances with a Nikon D850 as the main camera. Its 45mp and is capable of most prints you see advertised by businesses. the Hasselblad would be a rented option if the client wants a print the d850 isn't capable of.

This is just a meaningless pixel rush that's happening in the camera industry. As you said, the larger billboard prints that would need many megapixels (still not even close to 100, 40-50 is enough) are usually observed from afar. There is literally no need for such a sensor, unless you're cropping like crazy and printing that crop the size of a bus. If I had that kind of money I'd rather invest it in glass, lights and plane tickets to go around the world to take more pictures.

Pshhht people think a Hasselblad is expensive? Try even a single Red camera rig. Easily can run $100k or more

Yep, most people rent both systems as a general practice because of the ownership costs.

You can rent or sell cinema cameras pretty easily and the image quality difference is quite big. For this though, not so much.

If u are always highly requested for big editorial gigs that have big budgets, which will pay you about 4k 5k and so on, then after some time you can buy or justify the use of this. BMW wants you to shoot a car cathalogue, Vogue, Mcdonalds and always havbing great works....then this is for you.

So now for the reality. No focus stacking, no ES, no 150 CMOS option, the tilt and shift adapter is an absolute nightmare to use and the H6D is also prone to error failures requiring the battery and the lens to be continuously removed and reinstalled during the middle of your workflow. I tested the system inside out for 6 months with both the 100 and 50 versions and the limitations of the camera relative to the IQ4 makes the H6D a very poor substitute indeed. In sharp contrast the P1 cameras I tested at the same time had no such problems and were flawless to use for reliable workflow. The only benefit in the H5D-50 was the fact that the less heavy build construction makes it easy to use for hand held shooting but the Fuji system offers the same ability at a fraction of the price.

If this sensor is put on a technical camera and shot with the best glass available and at the best f/stop (maybe focus stacked) THEN the files are going to rock.
