This video hit hard. This week has been really difficult : depressing weather, back pain, overworked... Yesterday morning i decided to wake up very early and took my camera. The city was still sleeping, a thick fog was covering everything. Being out alone in the dark, watching the day rise and the city life waking up felt incredible. Most pictures taken looked like shit, but i managed to have a few keepers that i really love. It makes you appreciate the little things. Just get out, close your social media. It might maybe make you a better photographer... but you will surely feel a better person. On a side note, i crave for these ambiant piano music. This is such a good point! I think what happens with me is I get really frustrated with myself when I lust over the object and the idea of making something rather than just making something and that’s where the mindset of “it’s just a tool” comes from. This is a solid point for anyone who does a craft with a growth mindset where the tool is a positive and integral part of creation and flow. As a counterpoint, it ignores the reason why the "camera doesn't matter" argument is being made: a lot of people in any craft or hobby feel that nice things make them level up by default, like greatness is the finish line and the tool was the limiter. The romanticizing of the tool is important in a craft, but confuses growth with the dopamine hit of technical achievement or prestige. Your channel is a testament to a craftsman and growth mindset so it looks obvious coming from you, but countless people are frustrated that after the high of their new purchase, their photos and videos still suck. Unrelated, but I've been really enjoying the enormous effort and creativity in your videos, thanks for these incredible works!

It's called fetishization, attributing the value/appreciation/desire of one thing instead of another. Consumption works well because it has become that: supplying non-existent "needs", and placing objects of consumption as responses to those created needs. I "need" a new lens, I "need" a more powerful camera... Maybe you need to put a little more interest and care in what you already do/have . . .
@GxAce2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely have a camera fetish. Anything wrong with that?
@pedrova80582 жыл бұрын
I can't answer that for you. But why do you ask? Maybe... . I only raise ideas on a topic that you expose, here in a public forum. I have no problems with the methods and objectives of the design, but when consumption is put before all the other premises of the work, it only remains to see how a certain form of economic model takes over everything else. "Fashion design" does more harm than good in the long run... . (and no, getting 'more stuff' doesn't necessarily make our job better. Collectors are cool, but they're not become great photographers/filmmakers just for that)
@UNSCPILOT4 ай бұрын
It's also surprising how often you can find interesting gear in thrift stores, everthing from a Pentax ME Super with most of it's accessories to a Sony FD-75 Mavica, wishing I had a 80mm lens only to layer find a EF 28-80mm "ultrasonic" zoom that fits the bill well enough, or finding a old EF 50mm F1.8 that I can keep on my Rebel Ti so my 3 canon cameras don't need to fight over the newer one. Sure I have to find accessories, film/sd cards/3.25" floppies, batteries, and chargers to get them working, but cleaning these oddballs up, and giving them a chance to live again... if only in my amature hands, feels nice. Nothing sadder than something or someone left alone and forgotten slowly deteriorating, given power and something to record to a shocking number of these cameras just spring back to life like no time has passed, the FD-75 Mavica is weirdly my favorite even with a Rebel T6 and a M200 that massively outclass it, it doesn't care that 22 some odd years of digital cameras left it in the dust, it still happily writes it's 640x480 photos to a 1.44 megabyte floppy disk for me to load up on my computer later, using a colorful usb floppy drive of nearly the same vintage. Heck, with the new batties I've given it, that old thing has endurance for days, WEEKS, and something about that beeping whirring plastic brick of a otherwise ordinary point and shoot camera... just makes me happy and inspired to use it, and by extention the rest of my odd collection, also makes me want to find the FD-95, the last of those diskette cameras... if only to help justify the almost silly amount of new-and-old 3.25" floppies I've amassed and perhapse give my favorite oddball a partner in crime

The most part of the video/photo yt channels always review cameras and accessories with cold perspective, talking about features and specifications. That information is really easy to find in the company website and stores. That's the reason I really love this channel. I can find important information about the photography: the feelings, the result, the experience, the passion for the medium, and so on. It's a real shelter for genuine photographers that we are done with all the technical and boring stuff. We want to enjoy photography regardless our level. In addition the production of the videos is really amazing and curated. Love it.
