The thing that really screws you in these brackets (and makes it hard to calculate the odds of predicting the tournament correctly) is that you don't pick every game in a vacuum. If you pick a team to go to the Final Four and they lose in the round of 32, the sweet sixteen and elite eight games involving that team are automatically wrong for you.

Not necessarily. Most backet challenges (including the ncaa one) give you much more points if you pick the winner of a later round game correct. For this reason, brackets that stayed perfect the longest didn't always win the contest.
