I got a $30 turbo blanket And a $24 air inlet blanket only covers the part closest to the headers and turbo tho but that’s where the heats at so it helps, the air intake is more of shield from the outside heat not exactly a bone melting part of the engine but that cheap turbo blanket I’m impressed with been going strong 3 years now didn’t expect that I pretty much expected it to fall apart or melt or something as it degraded . Can they compete with $500 blanket maybe honestly jumping up to compete with $1200 probably not. I happy with them n curious to see how long they last bargin blankets who would have known

Wouldnt it makes more sense to shield out the parts that needs to remain cool, though that means a LOT LOT of shielding required.

Yes you're right hence something called O'connel shields. Look it up

Yes if you can get heat shielding on the turbo and manifold it is a good thing!

Not technically a split turbo in the same sense but Porsche currently have a patent on an electric turbo. Small turbines in the exhaust that spin small generators that then power a large compressor.

Not exactly, the F1 turbo wouldn’t really work as theoretically it’s a giant motor/alternator in the exhaust!

I thought in FEW they split the turbo so the exhaust impeller is one end of the engine and the inlet/compressor is at the other with a shaft running between. They did run that way for a while at least. Good way of keeping the hot bits away from the intake..

Heat control with blankets for the sake of other components yes. Heat retained by turbo blankets in turbo bearings cooking oil into carbon, no.

But not as effective. Stock manifolds are wrapped with that, the heat shielding is still over 400 deg at peak load.

@@TurboAcki Everything catches fire when oil gets on it, as its the oil that burns. Cost vs benefit these blankets are unmatched. Its why F1, LMP. GT3 etc are all going back to fabric led heat management.
