Steel cases shrink way slower on being fired than brass, and if the barrel/gas block/length timing is shorter than a 13.7" there's a far greater chance the bolt will be blasted backwards while the steel case is still fully expanded inside the chamber, meaning it will likely destroy your bolt or extractor, a common occurrence with steel case AR ammo. I advise against ever using that mess.

I like and I mean I really LIKE the side charger ar15! Most of mine have the side charging handle. I like them! Easy to mount scopes and easy handling of the charger.

My family all moved to side chargers from BCA for our hog hunting setups. Side charger is a must for racking and chambering a round when you have a huge night vision scope at the rear of the upper. Once you use one you’ll be hook and will never look back! ❤

I have several Bear Creek side chargers, love them. BUT my overall choice (whenever it as available) is the dual charger. Side charge and rear charge makes for the best platform.

My only complaint with my BCA side charging 300bk is that the lever has to be unscrewed in order to remove the bolt for cleaning or maintenance. That becomes a problem when you in the field with limited tools.

very interesting tip about the gas discharge at the rear when suppressed. up until that moment, i just thought the side charging gimmick was an experiment for the sake of experimenting. this changes a lot.

Still plenty of gas unfortunately. I still buy the side chargers. Run a adj gas block, turn gas off and make it a straight pull bolt action. No gas then.

BCA, here are some marketing 101 tips. If you are showcasing features of a gun, freaking show the features in action - don't leave it up to the consumer to imagine the benefit. i.e: Put a larger optic on the gun when showcasing it's easy to operate the bolt with a large optic Actually put a damn suppressor on the gun and shoot 300 blackout with it to show gas redirection I'm rooting for you guys, trust me - but I can't when you do this below par marketing production

For $211 why don't you just try one. I spend more money than that on diet cokes in a month. I've got a .224 Valkyrie side charge and a 300 BLK rear charge and I love both of them. I shoot a lot! They both are shooters, also. I consistently hit with the Valkyrie at 1100 yards. It out-shoots a 6 ARC I have by another manufacturer. The 300 BLK will hit at 700 yards with ease. They are great shooting guns and I have had no issues, whatsoever.

I purchased one of their uppers in 7.62x39 and had the extractor break. I reached out and it was a hassle to get them to send me a single extractor. Not to mention I had to polish the hell out of the feed ramps and remove the rubber doughnut from the extractor, just to get a round to chamber. BCA can be "good" but when it's bad, it's BAD! Good luck!

I accidentally just bought a side charging 22” 5.56 upper receiver, I would cancel the order the get a breach charging upper so that I could use the $90 charging handle I bought for the upper I have now, with that being said I’m willing to count my loss, just wondering what I need to look up in order to get a different charging handle that matches the other accents parts on my rifle?

I have a ambidextrous one from them, not sure if they still make it. You can unscrew the charging handle a swap it from side to side.

As a lefty, you don't need a left sided charging handle. The right side charging handle is what a lefty would naturally use. For righties, the right side charging handle is the oddball.

@@davidsirmons It might be my inexperience with side charging AR's. I learned to shoot a right handed m4, and it had that little deflector that worked 50% of the time, otherwise I got brass to the forehead constantly. Then we switched to the Tavor and of course that is ambi so I immediately moved it to lefty config. If it ejects at 90 degrees, then I am fine, but I prefer not to get pegged in the forehead if I can avoid it.

Since you have a proprietary bolt carrier to accommodate the side charger, please make a gas adjustment in the bolt.

The problem with the way BCA did their side charger is they screwed it into the side of a AR 15 bolt when they should have free floated it into the bolt like with what the koreans did with the daewoo k1 and k2 rifle. Im telling you now any company that makes a American version of the K1 rifle is going to knock it out of the ball park.

Great point! I dislike having to use a hex key to remove the side charge handle to access the BCG. I am new to the AR platform and more so to anything foreign. I looked up the Daewoo K1A1 and DUUUDE…the handle is indeed free floating! Seems like a good design. I wonder why that’s not used in American rifles as you mentioned.

I love my side charging 308 it works so much better than an m1a for me and i have never had one single issue with the three BCA uppers i have including my 308 kudos to ALL the hard workers at BCA for my cool products and yes i have bought more than just uppers !!! 🇺🇸🪖👍🏻👍🏻
