As a conservative who is skeptical of the climate change movement, here is my issue. If you want to spend trillions upon trillions of dollars through programs imposed by the government you should need to answer all of these questions: To what degree will the climate change in the future if there were no human activity? What is the difference between the change in the climate when you add human activity? How will change in the climate negatively impact human life? How will change in the climate positively impact human life? What is the desired effect on the climate of each program you are suggesting? If you were to achieve your desired affect, what is to prevent the climate from changing anyways? (The climate changed long before humans were around). What is the cost of each program you are suggesting? Is adaptation a better strategy for dealing with the negative impact of climate change than mitigation? Is the desired benefit of the program worth the amount of money that you are spending? Is there a more cost effective way of helping the world than the programs you are suggesting? How do you force individuals and countries that choose not to participate in your program to participate? If you can’t answer all of these questions completely, then you have no business spending trillions of dollars in taxpayer money.

However, what do you do when the other side gaslights you about an existential crisis they know actually exists?
@bernardwylie97605 ай бұрын
While I don’t agree on many of the symptoms of the malaise in our climate policy discussion, this was at least a right of center conversation I was willing to listen to, and that’s kind of the point. We have to start engaging with one another on this topic, without the alarmism or denialism, to find working solutions. Conservatives have to get back to talking about market based solutions, like a carbon tax, as rational and reasonable. Liberals have to realize that one size, top down solutions like mandated regulations on banning nuclear power are not always the most effective answer either. We also have to stop telling people little things make no difference. For example, you don’t have to buy an electric vehicle today if you can’t afford it and it doesn’t make sense to your lifestyle. But if you have to purchase a car today, one that is more efficient than your last one is still making an environmental difference. It is also better to use something until it is broken or obsolete, instead of always going to buy the new latest and greatest. Little Individual choices like that can make an environmental difference.
