It’s a bug, because Aeternus is using the “Never Ending” Legendary effect, which is supposed to remove the need to reload, however with the Laser Gatling, it’s unable to discern how to do this since there’s no individual ammunition for it, giving it an infinite amount of shots.

In the far harbor DLC you can get a flamethrower somewhere called Sergeant ash. Its ability is that it will cripple enemys. What makes it so broken it's the fact that even though this percentage is really low, it's a flamethrower. It's practically constantly shooting. If you have the ammo you can pretty much cripple every boss and instantly win. I saw a guy absolutely annihilate some 100 ghouls because he pretty much bound them to a wheelchair. He did the same thing with giant super mutants.

There's also a named ripper with the stagger legendary effect on far harbour at echo lake lumber which does a similar thing and just stun locks enemies in place but I've forgotten it's name

I got that effect on a 10mm Pistol right at the start of the game. Since it's % chance to cripple on hit, I obviously made it auto. I had to shelve that gun because it completely trivialized even the hardest encounters. One Vats burst each to the legs of a Deathclaw? Incapacitated. Go ham on it. That effect is so ridiculously busted.

It's beautiful isn't it. Neat part about it is that is the damage increases with the normal weapon damage perks, and the explosions deal increased damage with the grenade damage perk. So your pretty much walking around with a grenade launcher that can shoot multiple projectiles on full auto if you feel like it 👍

Maxon’s Gatling Laser with charging barrels is literally broken. Instead of slowing down the fire rate it doubles it and you get a massive damage bonus on top.

There's actually a catch that many people don't catch up on. Your fusions cores deplete down to 10%, every single one of them if you don't check up on them. But the cores never deplete past that so you do technically have infinite ammo, but bad for Powr Armor. Would recommend holding only 1 fusion core while maining this weapon because of this but besides that it's one of the best weapons in the game

Not sure if it was patched but there used to be a bug where only having one fusion core while using this gun would make the core instantly deplete to 0, so the minimum is 2 cores.

Pretty sure it only does this if you swap weapons, which automatically "reloads" the gun to a fresher core. If you keep it equipped it shouldn't be an issue I believe

You can still keep a ton on you and use it towards your advantage. If you have a ton (sell water) and use power armor there's a perk where depleted fusion cores will blow up for you. Also at 10% (more than 1%) a fusion core will sell for the same price.

One thing to note: I used this as my main weapon in a heavy/power armor playtrough, I had like 20+ sets of PA, like 70 fusion cores, but this gun took a fusion core EVERY time I pulled it out, and depleted it to a random %< frpm about 10-99% left. This meant I had a stack of about 38 full cores and then all the rest in seperate stacks, do not use power armor with this and only bring 1 core... For your inventory sake and also to save em

It’s also broken coding wise, as it will fire off an entire core in one shot, use another, and when that one is half empty or the gun is put away, it will switch to a new full core instead of still using the currently inserted one. This thing genuinely sucks.

Technically it is broken, because of how it used Fusion Cores. It always uses a bit of ammo to begin with, just to get started. You put the weapon away and pull it out again, suddenly you’re using a completely different core. Combine both of those together, and you end up with an ammo page that’s taken up by 30 different Fusion Cores of varying power levels, none of which are full.

The most OP weapon I made myself that wasnt too broken was the overseers guardian (shoots 2 bullets at once creating what is essentially double damage, or a long range low spread shotgun if hip fired) chambered in .32, pipe pistol caliber! And it was pretty good, not broken like that, but it was just enough for me to say it was powerful for being the cheapest ammo in the game

The legendary affix is just supposed to be a bottomless mag, removing the need to reload but retaining ammo consumption. The way the laser gatling works however breaks the effect and causes it to have truly infinite ammo

I got a Wounding Minigun drop from a Legendary Raider one time. The Wounding Effect causes bleeding damage *per hit* and since the minigun fires so fast, and because bleeding damage stacks, I could walk up to a Mirelurk Queen, shoot it for a few seconds with the minigun, and then stand back and watch it's health bar just plummet due to the stacked bleeding damage. It was *great* for fighting a bunch of ghouls since I could just keep spraying bullets left to right. I didn't have to land a ton of hits on each ghoul since it each hit did the extra bleeding damage, which would take down their health bars at the same time that I am backing away from them to create some distance. They would be slowly dying while chasing after me. Also, any automatic weapon with the Furious effect is hella powerful too. Furious causes each consecutive hit on the same target to increase in damage. Firing an automatic weapon with that affect causes the damage to increase exponentially. I took out that Mirelurk Queen that you fight during that rite of passage quest in Far Harbor with a Furious Handmade Rifle in just a few a seconds. My favorite though? A Wounding Ripper with the mod that also does bleeding damage, so you have two sources of extra bleeding damage on a weapon that has a *very* fast hit rate. Put a few points into the melee damage perk, and it becomes the most melee weapon in the game. Also great for fighting a horde of ghouls.

The hardest part is actually getting the gun. Everytime i try to get it from maxon he either dissappears before i can get to his body, he is killed in an unreachable area, his body flings into the sun before i can get to him, or the institute blows up the airport before i can kill him

i just yesterday got my hands on this finally, and i can say its very fun. also, when crouched and in third person the fire rate shoots up, and as long as you keep firing when you un-crouch there’ll still be the faster fire rate. use the charging barrels for the significant damage increase, as well as heavy gunner, and you got a melter

I found a glitch with aeternus where if you constantly go between first and third person when shooting it will fire off multiple shots in the time it will take to fire one shot, so you can kill behemoths or fog crawlers easily in a couple of seconds.

I found a great mod for grinding legendaries. It’s just ‘turn all npcs legendary’ where everyone good or bad is legendary. Sure like 20% of the time they still don’t have a legendary weapon, but it helps with the grind and it makes combat way more fun since everyone has more health (including you)

I have noticed a small issue with aeternus when wearing power armor, occasionally when your fusion core in your power armor dies, aeternus will bug out and not be able to fire leading to the need to store it and pull it out again

Another cheeky thing you can do with Gatling lasers is use it in 3rd person and rapidly zoom and un-zoom while shooting. It (in my experience) makes it fire in rapid bursts on-top of the regular rounds. Allowing you to do massively increased damage to targets by literally shooting them faster.

Only in third person, you can span the aim button for small boosts in rate of fire, crouch and hip fire in third person for a great rate of fire increase

There is a funny little glitch with this one that seems to trigger at random when you use it while wearing power armour. It sometimes uses all your fusion cores instead of non at all. Bethesda never changes.
