Then you need to pay attention when you are listening to atheists in future. You obviously would not come out with such presuppositional garbage if you were delivering this diatribe in any European country. Your arguments are so weak that I thought this was from the 1950's. Bye-the-way Richard Dawkins is not the best atheist debater out there. He may have been 12 years ago but he could not compare with Hitchens .Matt Dillahunty, Paulogia and lots of others.

it isn't true, and it's not leaving god or heading for hell because - no god and no hell. i've been atheist all my life, and i've had a pretty amazing life, god makes no difference, and if you hadn't noticed god hasn't made the slightest difference to human nature in 2000 years, the only advances in morality have actually come from secular sources, it wasn't the catholics decided to end the inquisition, it's not chrisitans allowing same sex marriage, it's not christians approving of homosexuality, religions are bully enablers and that's all "it's not ME burning you alive, my GOD demands it" - quit, go enjoy life, stop worrying about the sky daddy - he isn;t there.

I don't struggle with faith which isn't to say that I have all the answers to my questions..I still, in many ways struggle with why God allows certain kinds of pain and suffering but I know there was reason for the pain and suffering of Christ on the cross so that's where my mind goes when I see suffering that "seems" arbitrary. I think the Christian faith, the Bible has the best explanatory reasons why the world is the way it is in terms of humanity and its fallen nature...also, there's so much to sift through ie the laws of logic, the laws of physics, the moral law, the eye witness testimony of Scripture, the historisity of Jesus of Nazareth..it really is a cumulative case. Lastly, since neither God nor evolution can be proved we rely on inference to come to the best conclusion..so even atheists have faith. Faith is only as good as the object in which it's placed. If we consider all the aforementioned God is incomprehesively great..beyond what we can apprehend about Him in regard to all of those things..so I think the Christian has the best reasons for placing their faith in Christ...I could go on with respect to having an eternal perspective on life..and on and on..

@@cynthiahample7793 wow that was just a pile of garbage first of all the gospels don't even claim to be an eyewitness account they're written in the third person they were oral traditions for generations and written down anonymously and then centuries later attributed authors. The gospels speak of the Vincent no one was there to witness the gospel of Mark speaks of Mark as a separate person there is zero reason to think any of that is true we know they aren't eyewitness accounts there is no getting around that that is a fact

@@FinneousPJ1 All atheist positions are strawman approaches, though. All the new atheist's arguments all posit the same approach and argue the same points. @jshauns
@jshauns 4 жыл бұрын
@@FinneousPJ1 Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris, Dillahunty, all use the same presuppositional straw man approach when debating religious figures. Take belief in God, make a juxtaposed argument to some bad actor, who had belief in god, equate bad acts to god belief, bingo-bango, religion is bad. Religious figures do the same exact technique when arguing against secular humanism. Hitler was an atheist; therefore, atheism and atheists are bad. (This argument is fallacious on the surface - which is what makes it a strawman approach). “I’m not going to address what you say, I’m going to attack something else.” I am simply stating that the approach of the atheist’s is the same. None are that concerned with consciousness and where it comes from, and more the point where it resides - except for maybe Harris, who has a more mindfulness approach than the others. The rest are solely out to rail against religion. They will arise at some hyperbolic place where ‘I don’t know, and that’s okay’ is typically used to just explain away key tenets of the human experience. I am in no way saying what they are implying is wrong - just that, these many debates will have their assumed winners based on the predisposition of the audience. Harris is not going to make a compelling enough argument to convert areligious people, en masse after one debate. Just as Lennox won’t convert, in masse, a group of Secularists to Christianity after one debate. Sure, there may be a few, but I’m talking a lot. KZbin is an echo chamber of ideas and can generally find like-minded individuals to latch on to.
@FinneousPJ1
@FinneousPJ1 4 жыл бұрын
@@jshauns Even if you're correct, that does nothing to demonstrate your claim "all atheist positions are strawman approaches", which is ridiculous. There is one atheist position, which is the rejection of theistic claims. Furthermore, you are not correct. Dillahunty, for example, tends to ask what theists believe and why and go from there. How is that strawmanning? And even if it is, that does not excuse the strawmanning of this speaker. So you fail on many levels lol

I'm glad you are hearing the case out Salty Dodger, (if that is your real name). Many of the 'new atheists' are antagonistic, but I think that arrogance has proven to be bad for them. The thing is, they are really coming from an 'I don't know' position, but acting like 'know it alls'. They have reasons for doubt. Ok. It's understandable. Doubts and a willingness to hear go a long way, and you seem like you may be that way. If so, great. It takes time as the case for God and Christianity is immense and you may have barely scratched the surface. At times the most searching sceptics become strong defenders of the faith, like CS Lewis and J Warner Wallace more recently (a top notch detective bringing excellent angles on the subject. He's online and in books.) So if you don't mind running that risk, good for you. A hope for an eternity of love, joy and peace, beats out resting in peace forever, in my book. (Which doesn't compare with Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell.) Here's some other things you could find here on KZbin. Videos by Dr James Tour and Dr Stephen C Meyers, Dr William Lane Craig for the Moral argument and others. Biblical archeology is proven again and again, most especially around the burnt peak of Mt Sinai in Saudi Arabia, (maybe check out Ryan Mauro's video and see the monolithic split Rock of Moses with its water erosion and many, many other Biblically correlating sites.), the Red Sea Crossing with its Egyptian size and style wheels in the sea corals and so on, is incredible Shall I keep going? There's the vast issue of the prophecies Christ fulfilled. Did you know that Dr Michael Brown never lost a debate with Jewish scholars? It's because of the case and his knowledge of it. Amazing subject, strong in giving faith as fulfilling the miraculous trends to be. Which leads to the resurrection. No shortage of those videos, as it is vital. While our extra Biblical evidence for Christ from the first century increases to solidify with new finds, the people want physical forensic evidence. Have you studied the Shroud? How about the incredibly matching headcloth of Christ in Oviedo. Even the blood type matches with the Shroud, AB. Also the Shroud tested positive for Bilirubin which comes from torture. Amazingly the crown of thorns plant pollen from early Jerusalem is still on the Shroud, but just the start of that evidence. Near Death Experiences are fascinating. Modern miracles in Mozambique are truly powerful, and PhD tested before and after prayer. Astonishing results! Yet there are so many more healings in Jesus name occurring there. But beyond all these things and much more, there is the spiritual birth given you by God. "His Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.", Paul said. "God is Spirit" so really the issue is a spiritual one. Ultimately that is where He will make Himself known to you. Do you want Him to? I hope this helps. I'll pray for you.

II came to Christianity through science. When I find an inscription in the sand I think it's common sense to think a human wrote it, whereas a militant atheist would believe that crabs and sea motion over the millennia wrote that single phrase. It simply doesn't make sense. As a former atheist, former agnostic, and now a believer in Christ I sincerely thank the new atheists who with their so-far futile attempts to debunk the Christian faith and replace it with their naturalistic and irrational faith make my faith in GOD and Christ stronger because it is based on firmer ground. And for this, I must deeply thank Justin Brierley and the precious debates he hosts in his show that compare the two worldviews.

You may have some familiarity with science, but your logic is abominable. When you find writing in the sand you know it for what it is because you've seen writing before many times and you know how it is made. Your "common sense" about that is nothing but accumulated experience. Please tell us about your travels to other universes which you saw many universes being made by a god or gods, that informs you that this universe was similarly designed and made. If the entire universe was necessarily designed by a god, then we have no examples to look at of something that wasn't so designed, and therefore no way to tell the difference between the two.

@@yekatyaap548 do not be surprised. Science, in the first place, has been a product of the Christian world view that there was a design to be discovered in nature. Chines did not invent science because they were convinced that the world was in a precarious equilibrium between the forces of chaos and order. Greeks believed in the logos and not in the fact that there were natural laws to be discovered through guided experiments. Christians were convinced that being made in the image of God they had the intellect to find out the laws written In nature by the law giver.

I saw nothing in your comment that paid respect to atheists. You made an absurd characterization of what you think atheists "would believe" and then labeled that mischaracterization as not making sense. You said atheists' attempts to debunk Christian faith were futile and claimed they have "irrational faith" that is on weaker ground than yours. Your "thanking" of atheists was the equivalent of saying, "you're so stupid and wrong, it has helped reinforce how right I am, so thanks". Please tell me what you think atheists should regard as respectful in all of that. If you're going to write a paragraph that misrepresents and mocks atheists in multiple ways, why are you surprised when an atheist doesn't respond with "oh boy, thank you"? I believe most of us Christians had been in a journey of being an atheist at an early age when we deal with so many questions in our minds that seems impossible to be answered by God. but we continue to seek the answers that will satisfy us and eventually realize no Human opinions is really smart enough to give us all the evidence we needed to prove and disprove the existence of God. no wonder the Bible teaches that God will only exist through the word FAITH. Debating with the atheist is never really the answer as most of the comments I've read here. Instead of debating I believe it's better to pray for them. The Atheist is not the enemy but the one who gave them that idea which is the devil. So pray for them. Peace

@ To become a person who has the wisdom to see the proof is a miracle of God. Christ Crucified is where you will find the proof, nowhere else. Even His resurrection is proven by The Crucifixion and nothing else. There is some good history, but that is far from proof. For me to even defend my own epistemology is very time consuming. If you are interested, you can subscribe to my channel. I'm going to make daily vocab videos which will clarify the Greek and Hebrew, and they will include thorough justification of the claims therein. Also, I'm working on a Greek Access New Testament which is designed exactly to offer access to study the original Greek, and will include a one-to-one translation in order to serve that purpose. I'm also going to write a book which will outline true Christianity. True Christianity is very different from what you have been shown; at least the differences are incredibly important differences. I'm not going to spend time to specifically debate you Jacob. I think you easily see why I won't do this. Really, I need to stop online debating all together and focus on my projects. However, online debating has prepared me for my projects, so it's not quite black and white. But Jacob, if you have genuine interest I am a good source. Vocab videos, that thoroughly demostrate their justification, probably won't offer you anything to troll though. I'm not sure how soon I'll start uploading, but soon enough for long term interest. Much love to you. 💕💗💞💓💖💝

@ My belief is Christianity which is trust in Christ, not churchianity which is trust in church. If you need to strawman Christ, then I see that you cannot refute Him. "Spread flat the gate and broad the way which leads to destruction, and many there be who go in thereat. Standing narrow the gate and crowded the way which leads to life, and few there be who find it. Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheeps clothing but inwardly are ravening wolves..." - Jesus the Christ Pretty clear that to cite those which Jesus Himself refuted is a very poor strawman. Now, I'm inclined to think you are simply an abusive person. You keep calling Him "dead Jesus" because you hope to be offensive. It's not enlightening nor informative to anyone when you assert that He is dead. "Buybull" at least says something, though after a full day of seeing you repeat that pun over and over, I didn't even notice the implication until just now, and before I thought it was just a silly way of spelling it phonetically. Your comments are not challenging and so they do not draw real attention, and so I didn't even bother to take a close look at "Buybull". The comments draw attention the way an annoying child might, but not in a debate sense. In the Bible "miracle" is either force/power or else an indication/sign. Your definition fits many of the events, but is not the meaning of the word in Scripture. The miracle I speak of is not a defiance of physical law but rather an indication of God's power, an event for which there is no other possible explanation. The wisdom of The Cross is beyond any human wisdom, and so cannot be a myth because no human has the wisdom capable to orchestrate such a myth. Nothing else compares. If you are given the wisdom to see that, then you will see it. The New Testament is a level of wisdom so drastically surpassing the best wisdom ego can offer, and without ego lying is impossible, so the Scripture cannot be lies either. Truth and wisdom and rightousness are one, so such wisdom requires righteousness, and so again cannot be lies. If you've noticed how pathetic trolls are, then you should easily see that Scripture is not a troll. The liars of this world demonstrate how pathetic the minds of liars are. For instance, Islam came from liars and it's absurd. Buddhism and Taoism are honest, and they are not absurd. Now, Jacob, if you do not have Truth then you are not aware how obvious, stupid, and pathetic lies are. If you were aware of that, you would see that Scripture is not lies. I remember what it was like to not see the difference, so I get where you are coming from. My point in speaking to you is to offer a bit of info, such as what I said about "miracle", but more so my point is just to let you know that you don't pose any challenging points or anything. If someone uses such weak refutation tactics, then obviously they wouldn't recognize strong refutation, because if so then they would use refutations that at least seem strong. If someone can't recognize strong debate, then I won't bother debating. I can't tell if you think there is merit in the points you state, or if you are just entertaining yourself with no regard to such merit.

The first argument can be easily dismissed by this: If the christian god is omnipotent then he can do whatever he wants i.e. if he wanted us to live on the sun then he would have made it so. The speaker tries to dip into both supernaturalism and naturalism. If the christian god is omnipotent you don't need exact conditions 'cause as we can read in the bible people were raised fron the dead and even donkeys could speak! So natural conditions as we know it are not an impediment for the christian god. 2.Regarding the rape issue and "morality". what about slavery? killing homosexuals? stoning your children for misbehaving? don't those also raise that "feeling of wrongness"? Yet they are condoned and commanded by the christian god. 3. The argument is framed from a binary point of view. Is christianity the only religion in the world? That "feeling" has also been fulfilled by other religious and non-spiritual believe systems. That feeling seems to be a place holder for a belief system (atheistic, theistic and everything in between), not necessarily christianity. Love the show!!

Roger Kreil or the complete opposite of your argument is true, there is no reason to consider anyone as valuable since we are all cosmic accidents.

I do not object to Justin remaining a Christian despite his dialogues with atheists over the years, but I found myself having to say, over and over again, no, that is not what atheists believe. At no point did Justin provide a steel man representation of the atheist position and instead tended towards straw manning. Disappointing to say the least.

To be fair, if you're claiming a Christian worldview is superior to a secular worldview, you pretty much have to straw man the atheist position at that point.

It bugs me as well. He makes a claim about the universe being fine tuned. We say prove it.
