Religion is not about proving itself. Religion asks us to think, to question, to doubt (as Francis Collins has said) reality. It doesn't tackle life's greatest questions in the same way as science. Some atheists just don't seem to get that.

I agree wholeheartedly. I’m sick of some atheists thinking that they’re so superior to religious people because they decide not to believe in religion. They don’t realize that faith is a personal choice, that it’s not a scientific claim to personally believe in God. They think every religious person must present them with evidence for their belief. They seem to think that they are the great gatekeepers to what people are allowed to believe.

@@dalesajdak422 Preach! I am with you on this. What is funny is that atheists claim religions are only about superstitions, yet they themselves will sometimes make such a superstitious claim about someone, just because they are a theist! (To be honest that is only the feeling I get from KZbin in general, so maybe that is inaccurate). One thing to also note is that the claim that it is religion that started wars is just stupid. If you properly research the history of these wars you will find that, in fact, you sometimes will only need to bring in religion as justification, not origin. This can be seen with WW1 and WW2, for example. WW1 started because an Austrian-Hungarian prince was murdered! Mostly wars are started for the sake of power and enlarging the owned land. Religion has been used as a tool to justify it, but to say that religion caused those wars is to say that those people were perfect followers of religion and *therefore* started wars, which is wrong, because of course they were not perfect; they were corrupt to do such a thing! When someone like Richard Dawkins then makes the claim that there would be no wars without religion, I question how intelligent he really is, apart from his knowledge of evolutionary biology. I find it an unintelligent claim to say that religion starts wars.

I love how similar Dr. Collin’s journey to Christ is to mine (although mine does not include being an award winning scientist). I arrived by looking at evidence as well: reason and ration. It’s funny how many people think that you cannot reason or rationalize a belief in religion, but religion answers questions that science cannot (and may never be able to). They merge perfectly, they compliment each other very well. After researching for a year, very reluctantly at that, I also came to realize that Christ was the only answer. I wish more unbelievers would simply take the time to listen to our stories and see for themselves.

I remember reading it in one of his books it was a synopsis of the following " he was riding in the side car of his brothers motorbike going on a short journey he left their home they shared together as an athiest and arrived at their destination as a believer in God ". No death burial and resurrection of Christ , God, for the forgiveness of his sins no nothing. I live very close to oxford and was taken in by the whole inkling thing for quite sometime. Lewis's books are almost, for me, unreadable apart from his sci fi ones. As a King James bible believing Christian I just dont recognise his faith. People need to remember that Christianity at its core is the belief that God died and rose again to show his love for mankind(his creation) and to forgive all the sins of everyone. It’s a choice you make, to tell God to forgive you and to accept him. He won’t force you. With that being said it is important to remember that Christians are still people. They come for numerous different backgrounds&culture. Just because one Christian doesn’t think or act like you doesn’t mean they are not saved. I’ve known some pretty nasty people be saved and yes they change, but they don’t become just like everyone else who has been saved. Each person is unique and free to be who they are, just like Collins. I was agnostic for a long time and I grew up with out ever stepping foot in any religious place or foundation until I was 26. It was science that and being open minded that led me to Christ. I’m not like some Christians, I can’t remember the Bible verses, I definitely have my short comings, but I’m still saved. Some comments on here saying he’s not saved because of his background are so wrong.

@@overcomingsins6334 See again you are viewing history with the primitive mind that believes in superstitious nonsense. In your view the world Jesus inhabited was a world where all laws of physics were suspended. Dead bodies came back to life, people flew up into the sky and sat on the clouds etc whereas in reality it was just the same as today science wise. I want you to shake your head and try and focus on the real world. Ask yourself: Where did God get his magical powers from? Belief in magic is one of the most primitive and ignorant mind sets. You yourself do not believe in it. Say your car broke down and you had to get to an urgent appointment 50 miles away. Do you magic yourself there? No, because you know there is no such thing as magic. You get a cab or get someone else to drive you. Now think of Jesus. He must look down at his hands and think, "This is incredible. I can wiggle my hands and magic happens. I can, be invisible or appear like magic. I can think without a brain, talk without a voice box, see without eyes and float through walls etc. I wear magic clothes made by my magical tailor. Where the hell did I get these magical powers from?"
@ericjohnson66653 жыл бұрын
@@marshlightning - well, you perhaps know the saying "any sufficiently sophisticated technology is indistinguishable from magic". Does God have magic? One would suppose that if God can create time, space, matter and energy, that his manipulations of them could appear to be magical at times. Then again, what we think of as being caused by God, might actually be a result of angelic actions, but as we can see neither, how would we know who did it? And Jesus is often confused with God, which is somewhat understandable, since he is a Paradise Creator Son of God, (one step removed as it were). He incarnated as a man, so that he could see things from our perspective... kind of cool, if you think about it. No CEO of a large corporation would deign to go undercover as a janitor in order to see his company from the bottom up. While we may think we understand reality, and "know" what can and can't happen, reality can be full of surprises. Raising the dead is not all that hard for one who creates life to begin with. But just to clear one thing up... Jesus did not die for our sins; he very clearly taught that forgiveness is tied to forgiving others, it's right there in the Lord's Prayer. Paul got confused, and conflated the two. "Flying up into the sky..." assumes that a) Jesus was still in a material body (he wasn't), b) in his morontia form, he was not bound by gravity, and was also able to move a lot faster than regular humans... there was a messenger core that was made up of runners who conveyed information to distant groups of believers, and when one of those runners arrived at a distant outpost to inform them Jesus had risen, they responded that 'yes, they'd already seen him'. "Magical" to our way of thinking, but not in violation of the laws of physics. You will no doubt view all of this with great skepticism. And pre-reading of the Urantia Book, I would have agreed with you.

@taowaycamino48915 жыл бұрын
@@frankwhelan1715 Then the question is whether HELL, as Lewis believed it to be in the Bible, is in the bible or not. That's the question. Your position is sort of unclear too, since you do believe that people should get punished when committing crimes, right? And there is no forgiveness while they are paying for what they did, in this reality of your imagination, correct? So its hard for you to reconcile those two positions without falling into some kind of hypocrisy or contradiction. How would you deal with crime and punishment? And which crimes deserves "how much time", and why "that much time"? This Universe or reality in your imagination its starting to sound contradictory. Also, the crime is against God, for those that go to HELL, and not against temporality. God is eternal or without time, therefore if the crime is against an eternal Being then the punishment should also be eternal or without time. You don't measure a crime by its "time" but by who you do it to and the value of who you do it to. Its not the same killing a dog than killing a human. Its not the same killing a human than "killing" or disobeying GOD.

Andy H WHEN one chooses to believe the God of the bible that is when revelation comes. I get it. You want definitive proof before you accept the existence of God. I want to be clear, I’m talking about God/ Christ of the bible. The raw truth/fact for some, not all is, repentance first, revelation after. Some have experienced a revelation of God in their life/circumstance which has brought them to faith. Faith = trust. Just like you trust that the laws of nature / science will work in a particular fashion depending on certain actions, variables or factors being present- whether one is able to breakdown/explain the process or not. The same. The difference is your trust is validated in a way that God confirms who He is to you/the individual. This confirmation is BACKED up with the Word of God. That is (should be) a Christian’s - one who put his/her trust in; relies on; puts whole being under the leadership of God - reference point. Reference to who God said He is and that what you have put your trust in is real. True. Truth. Valid. I know this sounds ridiculous to you and others, but it’s an experience and journey that can only be taken by you. One CAN know if God exists. Does love exist? Love in the sense that the wider public understands it. Not necessarily theologically. What proof do you have? How would you prove it? How does one recognise it? What or whose definition do we go by? By the way, God IS pure love. 🙏🏾 When one experiences His raw love - it’s overwhelming. Some believe trusting/believing is indicative of some avoidance of facing reality, hardship or the basic need to believe in some thing. I can tell you that no happy, happy thought can change ones character, behaviour, mindset or health in moments of contentment or crisis. God invites you to see for yourself. Only the bible invites you to examine, test and reason about what God has divinely inspired man to pen. I reckon man would reject God even if He did show up. Oh, it’s happened already. I pray you find answers, if you’re really interested in finding them. God knows that in the world we live in, putting your trust in Him is scorned. He invites you into a relationship. Think on that word for a moment. What does a healthy relationship, even by the worlds standard, look like to you? Think about parenting. Especially from a mother’s perspective. Read His Word - ask for understanding and revelation. God describes the church (individuals who follow and trust Him; it is not the building, religion and satisfying rules, though God has expectations and gives instruction which to the believer is followed/obeyed fuelled by love, not fear) as His bride. Trust me, it’s deep. It’s a pattern for living as well as representative of God’s covenant relationship with those who repent, trust and love Him. God bless

What your religion tends to be is what culture you were raised in thus it seems to be a human invention.

much respect for collins . his work on the human genome project is amazing..... but theres a problem somewhere . the something from nothing arguement fails on its own merit. god is everything but he was never created he came from nothing to become everything so he could create everything. i find this abit absurd. lets say we grant the above as true how then do we go from that to yahweh, yet we know for a fact most of what yahweh said is wrong, then from yahweh to his son who was also him or part of him (depending on what christian u are) .. he also made outlandish claims not unique to him alone eg the virgin birth... how this fits into dna and design i have no clue i tried finding the answers on my way pastorhood but i came to realize its futility. its faith.. and you can never have evidence for faith.. and when we try to justify faith with evidence the conclusion never follows the premise ..

well if we insist that God must come from nothing is to think that nothingness preceeds God. that there is a blank slate before Him. if this is so then He isnt God. he is a mere actor inside the canvass of the universe. He isnt a being that is above matter, time and space. He is stuck in it too like us. curious to what you think are the things that Yahweh said was in fact wrong?

The something from nothing argument is irrefutable.

What do you believe? Not what you have been told, but what do you believe?

So you took the leap of faith per Pascal’s wager. Or via Bible logic

According to the Bible, a wise man's heart is at his right hand. This, like many other claims, is not to be taken literally (Ecclesiastes 10:2)
