I love the fact that Ainz thinks of himself as average in terms of intelligence and because of that he has to be very careful when making decisions which actually makes him much more intelligent than he actually thinks he is.

@@ZuuZuu2 Actually that’s been proven false several times over the course of overlord. At first it was an easy mistake to make, but by the end of season four it gets to the point where he’s not bullshitting anymore, he does have plans and the perfect tools to execute them. Ainz might not realize it, and his accidental successes don’t help with that, but he’s a strategy genius, and only gets more intelligent as the series goes on. This isn’t unintended by the author, either. Some people forget how Ainz’ race, the overlords, work. They gain wisdom and intelligence with age and experience. On top of this, it’s been co firmed that one can increase their intelligence in the world of overlord in the same way that training physically grants you the ability to use arts, no matter what your level is.

It actually gets to the point where he’s legitimately correcting albedo and demiurge on subjects they should be better than him in, with only pandora’s actor being on the same page at all times. I would definitely give the novel a read, the way maruyama writes it makes it so interesting. I just make it sound like an info dump

This could also be a potential problem in the future. Steam can build up within Nigredo, Pestonia, and Sebas. Ains considering their proposal some of that steam is release. In the future Pestonia will be very crucial for future events such as this. She seems to be just like Sebas except she truly will voice her opinion. Sebas gives Ains looks and watches him intently. Pestonia does the same. I recalled Sebas is pretty much a blank slate but he still is imbued with some semblance of his creator “Touch Me”. I do hope we see more of Nigredo, but specifically an interaction with Nigredo, Albedo, and Rubedo. I also love the way Pestonia says “woof” or “er woof” so cute.

Zanic was pretty much Thee king that the kingdom needed, he understood the bigger picture and (unlike his father) cared for the people as well as the soldiers at the time, he was also far more understanding in general as he took the time out of his day to Understand Ainz, hence why Ainz started to take a liking to him, its truely heart breaking that his own people killed him and robbed everyones chances of dying a peaceful painless death, Even with Zanacs head Ainz respected his body and asked that the head be returned and buried properly. this series is just so damn deep

I think it would had been much better improvement for their kingdom if the king had decided to step down and passed the crown to zanac, he had proven himself to be a capable leader and decision maker. If only this had been done, those traitors wouldn't had dared to betray zanac. And better yet, zanac would had tried to build better relationship with nazarick and i'm sure he done swift decision about philip's actions. Their kingdom wouldn't had met their fate if their king could show that the nobles are not above the law. which was the point that the 8 fingers existed, they were abusing their power at highest level and their king did very little to stop the 8 fingers...

The way they split these arcs up was genius, (time-wise) but also flawed (there's no mention of the upcoming movie besides one line. They were right there in the room with everyone, but only a high level specialist would be able to detect them, like Aura. They were Hanzo undead (lvl 70 something, if I remember right) And some of those spider assassin things I always forget the name of, eight arm assassins or something. They always follow albedo, but she typically takes hanzos on diplomatic missions as well.

there was also miscommunication. the way he kind of said "surrender was never an option" can be interpreted as "as a kingdom we'd never surrender to monsters". so to his people, I can absolutely see it has him sacrificing his people for his pride. Never thought I'd feel some sort of pity for him. I initially thought he was another scheming fool trying to circumvent the competition but after he won the succession he actually tried to improve the kingdom, even risking his life during the demon attack by Ainz. It's what happens when the power is split between the nobles and the monarch and why Jircniv's empire is much more stable. Poor martyr paid the price of trying to appease both sides. He was not as competent and probably made for an average king but I gotta give credit to his dying resolve. The man certainly went out honorably, I even daresay it almost mirrors Gazef's resolve, which makes it more impactful for me since he knows he's not a fighting figure.

Honestly this is one of the reasons i enjoy seeing MC as the (presumably, in the case of Ainz and someone like Kira from DN since i know many refuse to consider them one) antagonist. It helps bringing out the heroic aspect of other seemingly minor and stereotyped characters, like Zanac in this case. I genuinely didn't pay much attention to him at first, thinking that he was just going to be that type of scheming second-prince stereotype all over again, but began to grow on him when the fate of the kingdom slowly tripped down to the point of unsavable as the series progress. My man literally carried the entire kingdom on his back while it was being destroyed from the inside by his sister and his father's ideology, only to then got betrayed by his own people at the very last minute.

I imagine Raevan probably was able to get more of the reputable people of the Kingdom on his side before the Kingdom was razed, meaning that the quality of the remaining people in it was even lower than that it otherwise would have been.

I'd imagine it wouldn't even come into this if that was the case. If I understand it correctly, the whole plan originally was to incite rebellion from the people then just rule them politically as a puppet state or perhaps officially. The whole thing deranged due to Philip but Ainz may reason that since Philip's whole bloodline would be enough as a "stick" and that the kingdom is decent enough to change. Although that's just my take on it and that "Ainz's great plans" are always bore from misunderstandings.

As someone who hides the fact I watch anime I bought the paladin of the holy kingdom 1, 2 and volume 14 of the books. This is the first time I've ever bought anything related to an anime. Wow they're amazing. The world building and illustrations. That being said, the anime is doing an outstanding the job bringing the pages to life. Especially that episode where the nobles got a reward equal to their efforts with Zanac sent chills down the spine. Then that most recent episode battle with the suit. I've also never religiously mashed refresh desperately wanting the next episode to be uploaded already on Crunchyroll.

They are both highly intelligent. Nigredo is effectively the intelligence specialist of Nazarick. However, she really only cares about babies. Once they get old enough she stops caring about them. Pestonia genuinely cares about all life.

I’m all for a theory that just like Ainz’s emotions are kept in in check by his players’ build, I think that his decision making, while flawed because of his natural lack of capability, is also influenced by his stats, leading him a “right” decision regardless. Like if his high level intelligence from being a stupidly strong magic caster always mitigates his lack of actual knowledge guiding him towards actions that progress his situation. This effect is eventually perceived by the reader as luck. Having said that, I have very little knowledge of player builds and RPGs in general, so it’s hard for me to say if it makes sense. What do you think?

So, even though his mind retains memories and his consciousness acts relatively same, his subconsciousness must be working like supercomputer.

I’m still not buying why Ainz is so worried about the other NPCs. Even Sebastian who was one of the more morally good NPCs was willing to kill the girl he tried so hard to save just because Ainz said so. So even if the floor guardians and others are mostly evil. I doubt they’d actually have the stones to full on turn there backs and leave or betray Ainz if he made more peaceful diplomacy choices.

I think the point here is: It doesn't seem like a game anymore to Momonga (the man behind Ainz Ooal Gown) and has witness firsthand actual character growth from his NPC army. Personally, I think that maybe because he remembers that world as a game he acts like a villain, he doesn't think it matters since it's just a game and these are just NPCs Also since the first book, it was clear that he doesn't feel empathy for humans unless he is personally or emotionally involved in them, which reminds me of people playing video games, when I play GTA or other games involving humans I don't care about random people on the streets and neither do I feel empathy if they randomly died, but if I get personally involved with an NPCs I might be a bit mad if they died.

@@MLPIceberg Also how the story is structured reminds me of different quests within chapters and areas, the capturing of the wise king of the forest is a small starter side quest to get an alley to help you get around, and Meeting Nphirea the well-known grandson of an alchemist and his kidnapping and having to fight the big evil guy to save Nphirea cementing him to your story as someone who owes to you. and all of these side quests are within the more extensive chapter of the Re-estate kingdom which officially ends after you capture the entire kingdom.

Part of why I enjoy this show is the villain protagonist perspective. I won't even insist Ainz is in any way justified in a lot of the shit he does (Or allows to happen) since he rarely isn't. But I enjoy it regardless simply for the change from the standard hero formula we see in most isekai series. There's a certain charm to having an MC who just does whatever the hell he wants and damn the collateral damage. I dunno, guess I'm just one of those people who's able to leave their morals at the door when enjoying fiction (With the occasional exception) Like I'll admit Ainz is a friggen bad person (At least when his actions are influenced by Nazarick, he's not nearly so bad on his own), but hell man, I still like him.

@@neardarkroad1347 Yeah, some folk do put in loads of effort to claim he does nothing wrong (Even to the extreme of justifying the Happy Farm as a good thing.) But I think it has more to do with his role of protagonist. If he were the antagonist of the piece and we were instead following someone else (To keep to the theme of Overlord lets just say hypothetical protag isn't heroic either) Then people would be calling Ainz out left and right. But since Ainz is MC, people feel more compelled to defend him. And I admit, for early Overlord, there are some fairly solid arguments in his favor, though not so much later on. I don't really get why people need to defend him though, just enjoy the story, who cares if he's evil, those who do care will just drop the show, easy. Even so, I will add that the moral framework of New World is largely just "The strong do what they will and the weak suffer what they must." That's largely how that world works, not just Ainz, but it is a philosophy Ainz buys into and has even stated that if someone stronger than him and Nazarick came along, they'd have no choice but to fight and die. Though I suspect that while he preaches that, if such a thing did happen, he'd certainly lament the unfairness of it in his final moments. But that only circles back to another of Ainz' admissions, that being that he's a self-confessed hypocrite. He knows what he's doing, and he doesn't give a crap (And that's partly why I enjoy him as an MC, no heroics, no moralizing, just pure self-serving motives, you're either useful to Nazarick, or you get eliminated) Its just how Overlord works, and I've gotta admit I do get a good laugh when anime onlys are like "So is Ainz getting established as the villain first and the real hero who'll defeat him will be introduced later?" since that just means they're getting the wrong impression of what this series is. The story of a villain's rise as he crushes other petty villains, heroes and innocents alike in his conquest (Or the NPCs conquest since Ainz is massively unqualified for the role he's trying to fill, he just plays along to make them happy and hide the fact that he's incompetent).

@@neardarkroad1347 A time might come when, 100 years or more down the line where one of the top 3 guilds appears, since realistically they are the only thing that could contend with Nazarick, if not slightly edge them out in direct conflict, and even then it'd be a back and forth stalemate at best as neither side will be able to get a decisive leg up on the other, and the world will suffer for it, especially if the newly arrived guild is as power hungry and Nazarick are, or as destructive as the 8 Greed Kings were when they tore the whole world a new asshole just for the lolz (8GKs were the second wave of players to arrive, Ainz is the 7th wave) There were a few heroic players, or at least neutral, but by and large most of them were just greedy, genocidal assholes. Well there is also the alternative of a World Class Enemy also showing up, but that would be bad for everyone, Nazarick included since a World Enemy that gains sentience would probably destroy everything, Nazarick included. It'd just wipe the world clean of life, or, if its one of the upper tier world enemies, it might just devour the New World whole. If World Eater appeared, Ainz would be shitting bricks.

Though they've killed players before. There's no natural level system in the NW , so things stronger than level 100 could exist. In the alt side story about Evil Eye, Momonga struggled to beat a different dragon lord.

You know. the amazing thing about wiping out the kingdom is how none of hte NPC's bothered to point out the collasal, massive problem with doing this. Namley, Ainz is basically destroying his own kingdom by doing this for one simple reason. Remmeber how the current territory of the scorceror kingdom was taken from the very kingdom they are now wiping out? That means the vast majority of Ainz human subjects, are from the kingdom naturally. Which you know means. He's littearly ordering the deaths of his own subjects freinds and family on mass. This would outright horrfiy his subjects and lead to pretty much all of them either refusing to serve him anymore as they just had their whole family massacred. Or they'd simply pick up and leave in a mass exodus, causenobody in their right mind would live under the guy who just killed all your friends and family. Realisically, Ainz just ordered his own kingdoms collapse as the human population of it wouldn't serve him or live under him reguarldess of threats of death or punishment and would just leave or rebel. And Momon is now useless as they feel that he wouldn't protect them as he stood by and did nothing. THis is SUCH a glaringly obvious thing, that it's amazing none of the NPC's bothered to point this out!

On the surface Overlord is a pretty good show, but once you watch the show for a secomd/third time, you start to see the many many flaws within Ainz. They are apparent in the contradictions he makes. Prime example, Ainz mentions in several episodes throughout the seasons, " I wonder what my comrades would think if they saw what direction I was taking the guild in...". Why? Because he knows that one or more of his guild mates would not be onboard with what he is doing. TouchMe once saved Ainz and Ainz asked him, " why save me?" , TouchMe says, " because it's the right thing to do." Touch didn't save Ainz because it was going to benefit him and every step of the way Ainz will say, ' if it doesn't benefit Nazareth, then I don't care who dies.." He saves a town one minute because he remembers what Touch said and then committs genocide the next. When Ainz was fighting the Goblin in the Colllisun, and he said, "...If your the strongest here, I must be the strongest in the world...". He also talks about there being another guild in that world, how would they perceive his actions? Would they take offense? There appears to be foreshadowing going on..... I would be curious to know what his subordinates would think if he told them he was really a human playing a character...would they turn on him? Would there opnion of humans change...or would they be the type to say, " well your OK, but I don't like the rest of the them."

Well, one of the theories regarding Ainz is that his conscious mind is taken into account by a subconscious aspect which comes from his Dark Wisdom skill in order to achieve the best result. So while on the surface Ainz seems to be bumbling along, with a pinnacle example being his moment in the arena when the Emperor is meeting with the holy nation representatives, he actually is thinking 10,000 years ahead at a subconscious level(as he joked with Demiurge).

_Tl;dr I think He's a good leader and a good tactician which is benefiting the situation but he's fumbling his way through the political scheming. That's probably part of why they the situation blew up in their faces and they need to destroy the kingdom._ He was the guild leader so contrary to his protests of merely being an office worker, he does actually have a fair amount of experience leading people and keeping different personalities in balance. Is it really luck if he's able to lead to multiple different, very strong personalities and allow their various strengths to work for him? Sometimes good leadership is knowing when to sit down and let your talent do it's job with just a little bit of guidance from you. Plus, he is actually as reasonably good a combat strategist as any MMO junkie. His plan to take down brainwashed Shalltear back in season 1 was 100% deliberate. The best the guardians could come up with at the time was "well let's rush her together and it should work out" because even the sneakiest of them is so used to relying on overwhelming strength that they just don't think like that. Where he struggles a bit more is dealing with noncombat political situations, particularly scheming and more sophisticated negotiations. He's used to working with friends/loyal servants or fighting enemies not the halfway trying to win over people who aren't clearly one or the other. Albedo and Demiurge, being a succubus and a demon respectively, are used to smiling broadly while screwing someone over which is why they're doing the lions share of the plotting. Stuff like scaring the wits out of the emperor without actually overtly threatening him just doesn't occur Ainz so he just fumbles his way through that. The whole sitch with destroying the kingdom is kinda the result of that. When Albedo and Demiurge get stymied by human stupidity, he's not devious enough to save the plot so they just kinda collectively default to his general policy of "play nice or die" because without subtlety they default to overkill. And wow this got long. So yeah, anyway, those are my thoughts. He's handling the situation reasonably well all things considered, but outside of combat he's not particularly good doing subtlety deliberately. Politics is hard.

No, none of Ainz's friends are in the NW, however other players from Yggdrasil have been transported to the NW across time, usually every 100 years, starting with the 6 Gods, then the 8 Greed Kings, and even 2 of the Heroes from the Thirteen Heroes to which Evil Eye and PDL were members (the hunted down the "evil deities" who were player NPCs), plus others players in the past. That black and white haired half-elf girl with the Rubik's Cube who is a member of the Black Scripture of the Slane Theocracy was the daughter of a player who was kidnapped and r-ped by the Elf King till she got pregnant to which she fled with her newborn daughter to the Slane Theocracy. But other than God-Kin, i.e. children of Players, Ainz is the only player currently in the New World but he's no where near the first player to come to the new world, but none of them are his guild mates.

It does not matter for what reason, Ainz committed horrendous acts of carnage. No reason justifies the killing of innocents. It is a selfish and narrow minded act caused by fear. It is the consequence of a person with lack of foresight and ever-changing ideology. No person should gratulate him for the leveling of a nation. It is quite easy to look at a series or read a book and think he was in the right simply because it benefitted his cause, but that is severe failure at seperating fiction from reality. The reality is that life is precious, regardless of it's form. To cull others simply out of fear or lust for power and not as a necessity of one's own survival is heinous. The kingdom was rotten to the core and corruption seeping out of it's gates, this is true. However, that is the very, very small minority of it's citizens. Most were commoners and not deserving of such acts of atrocity. It sickens me that so many people think Ainz was right in his desicion to slaughter thousands of innocent lives for such a trivial and selfish motiv. To quote Platos, “Only those who do not seek power are qualified to hold it.” Ainz was never a worthy ruler, but an uncaring monster hungering for power. A vivid reflection of his physical appearance.

the fate of Nazarick is clear, in case you forgot what happened to them before the server shutdown the thing goes this way, because Ainz refuses what already happened, his beloved guild discarded by most people who build it, seeking happiness? , was sitting alone on a throne of undefeated guild waiting for "death" part of that happiness?...look at TouchMe, I'm sure he knew that those PK bullies was just looking for a fun time by abusing Momonga, but did him let those bullies get their "happiness" by sacrificing Momonga ?, or why E-rantel was saved, it wasn't because Sebas suggestion, it was because of TouchMe, why you have to meddle with other people business, most likely there's "happiness" in that assault as well

What happened to Nazarick before shutdown was cos of it being a game. People got bored and had irl stuff. This is an actual world so you can't use the same logic. The series will end with Nazarick winning. In epilogue we might see a time jump 200 yrs later and new players/guild arriving. Will they fight Nazarick? Hard to say cos history is written by winners and who will live to tell how brutal Nazarick was. Also, why would you assume that other players will be 'good' guys.

well in war they often let women, children and wounded survive and flee. as it would put more pressure on the places they flee to, consuming food and medicin and making the living conditions poorer, giving the rise for diseases. this would weaken the enemy and make it easier to concur.

He's lucky when it comes to things like political scheming. He's actually smart when it comes to combat. He's always lecturing the NPCs about that too because they all just assume they don't need strategy because they can steamroll anything.
