I love the fact that Ainz thinks of himself as average in terms of intelligence and because of that he has to be very careful when making decisions which actually makes him much more intelligent than he actually thinks he is.

At first it was an easy mistake to make, but by the end of season four it gets to the point where he’s not bullshitting anymore, he does have plans and the perfect tools to execute them. Ainz might not realize it, and his accidental successes don’t help with that, but he’s a strategy genius, and only gets more intelligent as the series goes on. This isn’t unintended by the author, either. Some people forget how Ainz’ race, the overlords, work. They gain wisdom and intelligence with age and experience. On top of this, it’s been co firmed that one can increase their intelligence in the world of overlord in the same way that training physically grants you the ability to use arts, no matter what your level is.

It actually gets to the point where he’s legitimately correcting albedo and demiurge on subjects they should be better than him in, with only pandora’s actor being on the same page at all times. I would definitely give the novel a read, the way maruyama writes it makes it so interesting. I just make it sound like an info dump

Zanic was pretty much Thee king that the kingdom needed, he understood the bigger picture and (unlike his father) cared for the people as well as the soldiers at the time, he was also far more understanding in general as he took the time out of his day to Understand Ainz, hence why Ainz started to take a liking to him, its truely heart breaking that his own people killed him and robbed everyones chances of dying a peaceful painless death, Even with Zanacs head Ainz respected his body and asked that the head be returned and buried properly. this series is just so damn deep

I think it would had been much better improvement for their kingdom if the king had decided to step down and passed the crown to zanac, he had proven himself to be a capable leader and decision maker. If only this had been done, those traitors wouldn't had dared to betray zanac. And better yet, zanac would had tried to build better relationship with nazarick and i'm sure he done swift decision about philip's actions. Their kingdom wouldn't had met their fate if their king could show that the nobles are not above the law. which was the point that the 8 fingers existed, they were abusing their power at highest level and their king did very little to stop the 8 fingers...

Too bad that starts in the Holy Kingdom movie which takes place between the Dwarf Empire takeover and the Kingdom genocide. The way they split these arcs up was genius, (time-wise) but also flawed (there's no mention of the upcoming movie besides one line. They even mention the Holy Kingdom War in this exact arc, when Renner and Zanac are talking before the declaration of war comes.)

As someone who hides the fact I watch anime I bought the paladin of the holy kingdom 1, 2 and volume 14 of the books. This is the first time I've ever bought anything related to an anime. Wow they're amazing. The world building and illustrations. That being said, the anime is doing an outstanding the job bringing the pages to life. Especially that episode where the nobles got a reward equal to their efforts with Zanac sent chills down the spine. Then that most recent episode battle with the suit. I've also never religiously mashed refresh desperately wanting the next episode to be uploaded already on Crunchyroll.

I’m still not buying why Ainz is so worried about the other NPCs. Even Sebastian who was one of the more morally good NPCs was willing to kill the girl he tried so hard to save just because Ainz said so. So even if the floor guardians and others are mostly evil. I doubt they’d actually have the stones to full on turn there backs and leave or betray Ainz if he made more peaceful diplomacy choices.

I think the point here is: It doesn't seem like a game anymore to Momonga (the man behind Ainz Ooal Gown) and has witness firsthand actual character growth from his NPC army. They can be influenced just like us humans can be in our real world. I think so at least. Maybe I'm wrong. If so, please enlighten me more on the subject of Overlord. I don't have access to the Manga and Light Novels, so I might be missing out on some things.

Personally, I think that maybe because he remembers that world as a game he acts like a villain, he doesn't think it matters since it's just a game and these are just NPCs Also since the first book, it was clear that he doesn't feel empathy for humans unless he is personally or emotionally involved in them, which reminds me of people playing video games, when I play GTA or other games involving humans I don't care about random people on the streets and neither do I feel empathy if they randomly died, but if I get personally involved with an NPCs I might be a bit mad if they died.

@@MLPIceberg Also how the story is structured reminds me of different quests within chapters and areas, the capturing of the wise king of the forest is a small starter side quest to get an alley to help you get around, and Meeting Nphirea the well-known grandson of an alchemist and his kidnapping and having to fight the big evil guy to save Nphirea cementing him to your story as someone who owes to you. and all of these side quests are within the more extensive chapter of the Re-estate kingdom which officially ends after you capture the entire kingdom.

I’m all for a theory that just like Ainz’s emotions are kept in in check by his players’ build, I think that his decision making, while flawed because of his natural lack of capability, is also influenced by his stats, leading him a “right” decision regardless. Like if his high level intelligence from being a stupidly strong magic caster always mitigates his lack of actual knowledge guiding him towards actions that progress his situation. This effect is eventually perceived by the reader as luck. Having said that, I have very little knowledge of player builds and RPGs in general, so it’s hard for me to say if it makes sense. What do you think?

He lacks empathy like undead should, as mage needs high int Momonga as lvl100 overlord would have crazy amount of points allocated in it. So, even though his mind retains memories and his consciousness acts relatively same, his subconsciousness must be working like supercomputer.

Noticed something, the your video about Pandoras Actor you mentioned it is believed that when he is pretending to be Ainz it is believed (not proven as you said) that Ainz doesn't have the red eyes, however in today's episode this was proven untrue as he had the Red eyes. Part of why I enjoy this show is the villain protagonist perspective. I won't even insist Ainz is in any way justified in a lot of the shit he does (Or allows to happen) since he rarely isn't. But I enjoy it regardless simply for the change from the standard hero formula we see in most isekai series. There's a certain charm to having an MC who just does whatever the hell he wants and damn the collateral damage. I dunno, guess I'm just one of those people who's able to leave their morals at the door when enjoying fiction (With the occasional exception) Like I'll admit Ainz is a friggen bad person (At least when his actions are influenced by Nazarick, he's not nearly so bad on his own), but hell man, I still like him.

@@neardarkroad1347 Yeah, some folk do put in loads of effort to claim he does nothing wrong (Even to the extreme of justifying the Happy Farm as a good thing.) But I think it has more to do with his role of protagonist. If he were the antagonist of the piece and we were instead following someone else (To keep to the theme of Overlord lets just say hypothetical protag isn't heroic either) Then people would be calling Ainz out left and right. But since Ainz is MC, people feel more compelled to defend him. And I admit, for early Overlord, there are some fairly solid arguments in his favor, though not so much later on. I don't really get why people need to defend him though, just enjoy the story, who cares if he's evil, those who do care will just drop the show, easy. Even so, I will add that the moral framework of New World is largely just "The strong do what they will and the weak suffer what they must." That's largely how that world works, not just Ainz, but it is a philosophy Ainz buys into and has even stated that if someone stronger than him and Nazarick came along, they'd have no choice but to fight and die. Though I suspect that while he preaches that, if such a thing did happen, he'd certainly lament the unfairness of it in his final moments. But that only circles back to another of Ainz' admissions, that being that he's a self-confessed hypocrite. He knows what he's doing, and he doesn't give a crap (And that's partly why I enjoy him as an MC, no heroics, no moralizing, just pure self-serving motives, you're either useful to Nazarick, or you get eliminated) Its just how Overlord works, and I've gotta admit I do get a good laugh when anime onlys are like "So is Ainz getting established as the villain first and the real hero who'll defeat him will be introduced later?" since that just means they're getting the wrong impression of what this series is. The story of a villain's rise as he crushes other petty villains, heroes and innocents alike in his conquest (Or the NPCs conquest since Ainz is massively unqualified for the role he's trying to fill, he just plays along to make them happy and hide the fact that he's incompetent).

@@neardarkroad1347 A time might come when, 100 years or more down the line where one of the top 3 guilds appears, since realistically they are the only thing that could contend with Nazarick, if not slightly edge them out in direct conflict, and even then it'd be a back and forth stalemate at best as neither side will be able to get a decisive leg up on the other, and the world will suffer for it, especially if the newly arrived guild is as power hungry and Nazarick are, or as destructive as the 8 Greed Kings were when they tore the whole world a new asshole just for the lolz (8GKs were the second wave of players to arrive, Ainz is the 7th wave) There were a few heroic players, or at least neutral, but by and large most of them were just greedy, genocidal assholes. Well there is also the alternative of a World Class Enemy also showing up, but that would be bad for everyone, Nazarick included since a World Enemy that gains sentience would probably destroy everything, Nazarick included. It'd just wipe the world clean of life, or, if its one of the upper tier world enemies, it might just devour the New World whole. If World Eater appeared, Ainz would be shitting bricks.

Though they've killed players before. There's no natural level system in the NW , so things stronger than level 100 could exist. In the alt side story about Evil Eye, Momonga struggled to beat a different dragon lord.

What happened to Nazarick before shutdown was cos of it being a game. People got bored and had irl stuff. This is an actual world so you can't use the same logic. The series will end with Nazarick winning. In epilogue we might see a time jump 200 yrs later and new players/guild arriving. Will they fight Nazarick? Hard to say cos history is written by winners and who will live to tell how brutal Nazarick was. Also, why would you assume that other players will be 'good' guys.

for the first time I found myself rooting for the other side and not Ainz. He knew the ruling party knew nothing about the missing cargo but went to war with them as an excuse. the idea that he killed so many people who were in fact innocent was a turn off. That power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely fits this episode. The when the noble kill the young king AInz is offended. These people are about to be slaughtered along with their families they are frantic what would you do to save your family. Ainz said he would do anything to make his sub-ordinance happy...Id hate to see what he would do if you make them angry.

That is a LOT of mouths to feed and what looked like some really high end soldiers to find something to do with. For idle soldiers can be quite a problem for a Nation. Food doesn't seem to be too much of an issue but still, they would take up a lot of other resources like housing and just space. Honestly, this and the holy kingdom were more the points that really made me not like Ainz from a moral standpoint, but still enjoy it from content standpoint :P I get his reasoning, but it's flawed. And so many innocent civilians that had no power punished for having no choice where they lived... hate it. Illogical. I agree and understand that innocents are unfortunately just statistics in war. But Illogical? If massacring a kingdom serves as a good warning towards your enemy that "Repeatable Offense will not be tolerated", then why wouldn't he do it? Nazarick already has humans under the Baharuth empire and already growing cults in the Holy Kingdom, so razing a kingdom that offers small to no benefits to warn any potential rebellion is a small price. Especially for the grudge holders. Their history will be embellished, and their current identity will be severed by molding the history and planting a different identity in the old one's place. If we are talking about the potentials of the citizens of Baharuth and Re-Estze respectively then you would know how screwed Re-Estize's economy is and how prosperous Baharuth's economy is. And that is not even taking Re-Estize backwards tradition and corrupted political factors in mind Nazarick had made the message too many times already. Katze Plains massacre is to show how dumb to go against them. Baharuth Empire's submission to be a vassal state shows how welcoming they are and can ensure your safety and prosperity if you submit willingly. The trade relationship with the Dwarven Kingdom shows they are willing to be allied with you in business. Accepting to aid the Dragon Kingdom shows that they still gonna help you even if they are busy with other conflicts going on unlike Slane Theocracy did. Helping in the crisis in the Holy Kingdom shows that they will help you even if you have an opposing view or moral spectrum. The destruction of the Re-eztise Kingdom will just be an eternal grim reminder to the entire world that Nazarick will not tolerate repeatable offense and will not get a second chance after the warning. It would be illogical if you are considering ainz's actions from humanity's moral standpoint which is deeply biased and flawed in the first place. A human moral standpoint doesn't mean shit against ainz because he is an Undead. His already minuscule sense of humanity is gone by turning into an undead. Because if he did have a strong sense of humanity then he wouldn't just ignore orphans that dropped dead on the streets when he was on his way to work as a corporate slave back in his dystopian world.

In my point of view this happened because ainz was that troll that used the op meta and got damaged , so he got angry not because it bruised one of his followers for 30 secs but hurt his pride (he owning an op army and op items). I lost most of my interest in the series through this honestly. It's been pretty clear that Ainz is the villain of the story, but the genocide doesn't make any sense and isn't very interesting to watch. Even stuff like the demiurge attack on the city was interesting because it had some intrigue to it. But we have seen Nazarick just murder their way to victory so many times now, it's really not interesting anymore. Political intrigue is interesting, manipulation is interesting. Murder is a lot less interesting. You say that it's 'giving the guardians experience', but that could have just as easily been done in a classic conquest. And it would have been more challenging that way, since conquering a place while letting no information out is harder than just murdering everyone. It would also give the guardians experience that they need much more. Population control and control of Information flow are important skills that could have been improved here. The guardians already know how to murder people. That's what they have been build for. After Ainz gained his kingdom I had hoped there would be more kingdom building stuff. How does he plan to create an actual utopia. But no, it's just murder. Murder some dragon, murder some animal people, talk with the dwarves, genocide. It was way more interesting when they were still smaller time doing recon missions as the adventurers and stuff like that. Politics could be interesting in a kingdom setting if they aren't going to do actual kingdom building, but this just isn't. The genocide doesn't even work as a 'Don't fuck with us or else' example because the Kingdom as an entity didn't really fuck with them. A minor noble attacked some caravans for which the king himself offered up his own head. The kingdom was more than accommodating and Nazarick didn't care. The message that this sends is 'We can't be reasoned with. We will murder everyone at a whim. Trying to accommodate us will fail. If you want to survive, we need to be wiped out because we could wipe you out at any time without any reason. We are the bad guys, stop us or everything is doomed.'

Now in season 4 it seems like they are just murdering everything. Nazarick and Ainz were already OP as fuck and then the writer just writes him subjugating and entire empire by coincidence without even trying. Think about it. The one goal he achieves with intrigue instead of murder and it's just on accident.

It covers volumes 12 and 13. The Holy Kingdom arc. It takes place between the dwarves and Philip's attack on Ainz's caravan.

It has been hard for me to watch Overlord lately. I can't escape the feeling that I'm it wants me to root for the villains. All Ainz actions would be considered immoral in any other anime. Yet we're supposed to act like we support him because he cares for his people? He's about to kill a whole nation of people just for a few. His tactics would make sense if this was all just a video game the humans were NPCs that respawn, but the whole point of the show is that they are not, they are living beings just like Ainz.

Personally, I haven't read the LN so I don't really know how things turned out but as far as I know, there are contents in the LN that aren't shown in the anime. Anyway, I am trying to analyze Ainz's decision while doing my best not to justify his actions as noble or heroic nor believe him to be outright evil. Right now, the only thing that comes into my mind are questions instead of answers. 1. Is Momonga's personality affected by the fact that he is now an entirely different being (or at least a part of him) and not necessarily a human anymore (despite Zanac coming into a conclusion that he's surprisingly very human in terms of his goal)? 2. Did his decision ultimately stemmed from the fact that the Empire, the Kingdom, and the Theocracy view him, the denizens of Narazick, and all other beings considered non-humans as mere monsters (save for a few). Is this a product of how he is treated from way back then when Ygdrassil was just a game? 3. As a former player who is now actually living and interacting with NPCs, how exactly does Momonga view them at all? Does he still consider them an NPC hence why it didn't matter to him (as far as I could see) if they died or does he view them differently and is actually remorseful but can't show it nor do anything with it? Looking at what he's done as a human would surely make you think it is absolutely evil and terrible because we try or can relate to the human characters, one way or another, but looking at what he's done in the eyes of another may provide us with a different view altogether. Anyway, I'm not here to incite an argument/s, just sharing my thoughts. I think the author did a great job straying away from the usual formula we've seen a hundred times already in anime.

1. In the manga, there are several moments where it is hinted that Momonga slowly growing toward uncaring about the loss of life. There is also the passive trait of the Undead Race from the game ,[Emotional Supression]. That activates even when he's simply being too happy than the allowed threshold. 2. Simply think of Momonga as an Anti-Hero type. The type that doesn't mind horribly destroying 1 kingdom in order to make several others submit without a fight. Less time spent for war, less soldiers/peoples gonna die. Originally he wants to make his guild name known, so that if by chance there is another member of his guild that were transported to the alternate world but stranded somewhere, they can hear about their guild and comes back. Then the Shalltear incident happened, and from that point he knows he cannot play his cards too soft, because there is World Items out there, even one that are able to brainwash even Shalltear. There is also the pride of Ainz Ooal Gown (the Guild), which were known in the game as the strongest guild, which Momonga tries to uphold. 3. He doesn't view them as simply a bunch data anymore, He knows very well he is now in an alternate world, where denizens of the guild that were simply an NPC, is now a real thing. As for the beings outside of his guild (Kingdom Citizen, etc), they weren't in the game. Although in the manga there were hints that those World Item outside of Ainz Ooal Gown were once brought there by players who were transported to that world in the past. There are several others good manga/LN/anime like Overlord (Anti-Hero type), just that mostly are about human curb stomping monsters. Overlord deviates from it because it's "Monsters" curb stomping humans.

Nazarick is very heavily populated with evil and neutral alignment. There is only like 5 known NPC with good alignment: Sebas, Pestonya, Nigredo, Yuri Alpha, Cz2128 Delta. Very very minority. Only Sebas is the threat and I'm sure Albedo would enjoy sending off her little sister Rubedo on him for the betrayal. Demiurge wouldn't mind knowing his polar opposite is now gone.

The convoy surrendered because they thought that's what eight fingers (their employer) wanted them to do. The convoy security would've easily crushed Philip and his forces.

I like this anime a lot, but my biggest issue with it is... All this skipped content, that explains why he does what he does. It leaves those who haven't read the manga or light novel, confused and out of place. Like this video theme: Why is he destroying the kingdom? And other questions like: Why do I feel like I've missed an episode even though I've kept up to date? Where did these characters come from, and why are they ignored later? Why did things escalate so much, in what feels like an hour. Why does that human king protect nobles that have no sway on his kingdom? And are honestly better off for his kingdom dead. And my favorite question of all? (because it was my personal first real question for the story, and I'm not the only one to ask it) Why didn't Ainz speak with king personally, establishing a good relationship with him and his line... Who where more then happy to work with him? Even if it meant the royal faction losing some power. It could 've solved so much problems in one go, and Ainz would have someone to guide him on kingship. Which he always complains about XD Sorry for the wall of text. My niece and her friends keep asking me such questions, and answering them without giving away spoilers, is getting hard. Even though I recommend videos like this, to them.

I would like to ask for help to understand something about overlord. Years ago, when Ainz fought Shaltear, in the final moments, Ainz was going to use a powerful spell that takes time to cast. To reduce the time, he was using a cash item, so...here are my questions: When Ainz was going to break/use the item...what happened? He could not break the glass to activate it? Or something else happened? I ask because he made an effort with his hands, but looked as he could not break it, he even looked at the item. When Shaltear attacked him to prevent him from using that item...something distracted her or scared her...she even looked back. In the anime, it seemed like an eye. What was that eye/presence? Because in theory, that distraction allowed Ainz to finally win.

The fact is Ainz hesitated to kill Shalltear because he was not sure that resurrection of NPCs would have worked in the NW. It would have been like killing your own child. Aura gave that distraction to nullify Ainz's hesitation. P.s: if Ainz didn't hesitate, that distraction wouldn't have been needed.
