Very informative and answers questions that many of us have. Do you think that the alias function will become standardized?

Hi Robert, It actually is, but it means two different things based on whether you are looking at the packet station list or the setup cheat sheet for the EOCs. The cheat sheet for setting up a TNC in an EOC (at least the one I have) clearly identifies the name to be programmed in "MYALIAS" as D where the station list actually specifies the tactical name used when programing Outpost which is 1. We are experimenting with the elimination of Outpost and just using terminal access to work with Packet PBBS, but there is a lot of history with Outpost software in the County and might be a bit painful for some operators to drop the usage. Anyways, as always, the way we use Amateur Radio and EMCOMM is always changing, and the only thing I can say for sure is that it will always be different then today (or tomorrow). Stu AG6AG

Hi Chuck, We currently don't have any HF capable systems on our network out here. Since a VHF connection at that distance would be prohibitive, then it probably would not be viable. There was a time when there work regional Packet BBSs that acted as gateways and linked all the systems together, but that time has passed... Stu AG6AG
