In 2001 I did one of my best journeys, Lotus cars to Malmö Sweden then up to Alta Norway via Stockholm, Torinio Finland to collect old timer Riley motor cars that broke down on a rally. 1 car in Alta, 1 car in Glomfjord and 1 in Hoylandet. What a trip all the way back down the E6, wonderful scenery and such friendly people and I must mention the Shell Garage in Fauske where I had my 24 hour break, all the comforts of home in the truckers room. Such happy memories, it was done in July so I saw 24 hour daylight.

They're not supposed to on a snowmobile, no - at least, not without specific permission. They are always debating it - can you or not... can you do it with a special license... or not... When I did this video, there was somebody who had special permission to take groups up there as a tour. Not sure if that's still true though.

Hi Ryan, Sorry about the late answer - didn't see this question until just now. Norway in general is a great country to live in (I've been here ten years). I've only lived in Alta, but it's just what I want - far away from the weird world, great scenery, slow pace. The slow and distant thing attracts some, and is a nonstarter for others. There's honestly no way to know how you will fit in here until you try - for some, one winter with dark time is enough to send them south again (even many Norwegians do that), or a summer where +15C is a "pleasant summer day" and 25C is roasting hot :-D The biggest obstacle to living here is normally the language. It is really hard to find work that is not stocking supermarket shelves if you don't speak passable Norwegian, so I'd recommend pushing pretty hard on that. Stocking shelves here isn't nearly as bad as it is in the USA, though, so if you don't mind that kind of work, you can sometimes find something, somewhere. I'm in tourism, which right now is a terrible place to look because of the pandemic - the whole industry worldwide is gutted right now. If covid comes under control someday soon, there will definitely be some good opportunities here in the north for guides and husky farm workers and so on, but I have no idea when that might happen. Norway is also a weird mixture of friendly and reserved. You may find yourself making friends here quickly, or you may find (especially in smaller towns) that people are friendly, but don't really want to be friends. It can be pretty lonely if you are a very social person and come from a place where strangers are quickly included. On the plus side, Alta is a (small) university town and the other visiting foreigners can be a good source of friendship. So, yeah - if you are easygoing and patient, and don't mind cultivating a life here rather than pulling a handle and having it happen all at once, it can definitely be a good idea. Heck, you're 27! Come try it out, and if it fails spectacularly then you have your whole life ahead of you to say, "WTF was I thinking, honestly???" :-D :-D
