I’m always amazed at how fit you are Tara and how at the end of every ride you can lift the saddle off so easily. Hope the changes work for you and Apollo. He is such a handsome chap. Glad that going shoeless is going ok at the moment. I know that you and the farrier will do the right thing about his hooves to shoe or not to shoe. Apollo seems to be ok about it even when he’s out doing the hacks. 🐎🐎🐎

Yes, that lifting a heavy saddle off a big horse gets difficult over time. I'm sure that hasn't helped my shoulder issues....

I dont know much abt saddles, but riding other people's horses, I've always thought saddles were very heavy, so I'm glad you're getting a lighter one Tara - I just thought they were all heavy full stop! ❤❤

Apollo is so majestic! I hope the saddle works Tara! We have to keep doing, but modifying where we can! In my case getting lighter planting containers so I can still move them around etc. My motto is you can do it, just have to work smarter! Interesting one, Tara. People rarely think about all the lifting involved in keeping a horse or pony. The taller the horse, the higher you lift your saddle, which is the enjoyable part! If you are a frequent rider, it adds to body wear and tear. The smaller the horse, the weight ratio, not just the height of the rider, is very important, which includes tack!!! Although Apollo is a big, strong boy, you will ultimately be saving your shoulders and back. Very wise. And for all those younger people who poo poo everything, just remember, we ALL age and old sports injuries have a habit of creeping back to haunt us, regardless of our fitness! 🙄 Be kind and sensible, please.

Apollo is very neat and tidy,,,l had a Morgan stallion who was really easy to do,,wee's in one place and poops in one corner,,so easy to clean,,,aldo had a mini Shetland that totally wrecked her bed every day,,😂😂😂

Good Morning to you over there, Tara & Rens 🙂 👋 Tara... the early bird 🐦 😁 !!! The last saddle I owned, was a Wintec Western saddle. My second hand Syd Hill - Barcoo Poley stock saddle, was very heavy for me to carry, and to lift up onto my horses back. My Dad used to put it up on his back for me, as I was a 14yo girl. My horse like Bella, had not much withers at all. So, a Wintec Western saddle, fitted him much better. Was lightweight and easy to care for, as well. It didn't matter, if it happened to get wet if it rained out on my ride, either. Is Apollo doing okay, since Faroukie left ? Only asking, as I know they were together for 6 year's. Having Bella, with him may help with that adjustment for him, I guess 🙂 Love Melinda ~ ❤❤ ~

You could try a breastplate with him so the saddle doesn’t slide back.
