There are numerous ways to turn to a sustainable lifestyle , few tips I learned and try to incorporate in my daily life : 1. Composting kitchen waste 2. Making bio enzyme from fruit peels 3. Using bioenzymes for most cleaning needs and for garden 4. For buying cleaners like toilet cleaner etc , look for products which are not harmful for marine life and buy in bulk like 5 litres and using existing bottles to refill and use. 5. Carry your own bag for shopping. I just keep multiple cloth bags in every handbag, laptop bag, and even car so if there be a chance of sudden shopping will be ready to shop without needing a bag! 6. Buy local groceries and food items as much as possible , closest to source is best for health and earth. 7. Look out and buy from vendors, local shops where they provide sustainable packaging 8. Clean , dry and store all plastic packaging you use , store and send for recycling. in our home from a sachet to a a milk/curd/dosa batter packet every single packet is washed cleaned and sent to recycled. 9. Carry a water bottle and get it refilled, for a road trip buy a wtare dispenser or keep multiple bottles so they will last for entire trip. It works! 10. Avoid taking buying things in small sachets/packaging, they are difficult to clean and recycle. There are many more tips but for starters these should help ! 😀

I kind of disagree on the take that there's either or with being vegan and environmental activist. For veganism there are 3 major perspectives - 1) Morality, 2) Health and 3) Sustainability. With 1st there's lot of grey aread because of philosophical nunaces but tye gist is about fundamental rights which can't have grey area like all humans are equal where we can't pick and chose as per convenience. However we can just focus on health and sustainability arguments which can be logically argued and derived by actual data. I can bet there's multitude of research which has proven plant based diet to be easily sufficient than dairy, fish and meat. Anyone arguing that it does not suit them or have alternative like the lady in the video did, is just lazy to look for alternatives or ignorant. The same way peope are lazy and ignorant to not use plastic and reusable products. For sustainability argument, there's ton of data that suggests how big industries like fishing, animal husbandry and dairy/meat are primary reason for plastic waste, water/air pollution, water usage and crop usage. One cow uses multiple times the water and food after getting abused for our milk and meat demands. Here people drink milk and eat meat and then go on to preach to not waste water or food. How's that sustainable, there's no actual difference you can make logically even if every household stop wasting water or food. In terms of plastic, there's data that most of the plastic is found in sea and the biggest contributor in that is fishing nets which is destroying bio diversity in the oceans. And yet we are told that stopping to use plastic for hosuehold will make any difference. There's a logical flaw in this type of sustainable living if it's not backed up by any data or logical reasoning. You can do it if it makes you feel good about yourself but if you are honest with yourself without being vegan you are not really making any change. It's just a fact backed by data.

You should try to introduce mung beans, masoor other lentils and legumes in your diet. Soaking them also helps increase digestibility. Hing is also used traditionally for making legumes and lentils easily digestable. Saving animals and saving environment are generally inclusive. When you go vegan you don't contribute to deforestation of more than 75 percent of agricultural land which is exclusively used for growing crops for and raising the farmed animals. You save a lot of water. It's surprising that to produce one liter of milk more than 1000 liters of water is needed. For One Kg of chicken 4300 liters of water, for meat of goat or lamb it requires 6000-8000 liters of water. Its because to raise an animal we firstly feed them a lot of plants like soyabeans and corns and then we kill and eat them. It we eat the soya bean and corn directly it would be so so much sustainable. Despite using 80% of agricultural land, livestock provides only about 18% of the world's calories. This is because meat, dairy, and other animal products are more resource-intensive to produce than plant-based foods like grains, vegetables, and legumes. In contrast, the remaining 20% of agricultural land, which is used for growing crops directly consumed by humans, produces the majority of the world's calories and plant-based proteins. Animal agriculture is responsible for about 14.5% to 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This includes methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide, with methane being particularly potent as a greenhouse gas. Animal agriculture contributes more greenhouse gas emissions than all automobiles combined. A vegan who has gone vegan for the animals should also consider a plastic free (as far as possible) and sustainable living, beacuse other than directly saving animals from being killed by not paying for animal products, efforts to save environment also helps save animals.

Regarding veganism 1. Plastic - not all vegan products come in plastic. Most of the Indian dishes are vegan by default, or can be easily modified into vegan. You don't have to consume oat/almond/soy milk to be vegan. OTTH, countless animal products also use plastic. Usage of plastic is not a vegan/nonvegan problem. 2. Digestion and nutrition - this can be solved with better knowledge and experimentation. You will gradually understand what suits you. Plus, you also will likely get used to the 'unsuitable options' after a certain time. In any case, the ethics of not harming amimals stand above all these issues. I would prefer a bad tasting product if that is not causing pain and suffering to somebody. I am a vegan and an athlete, with 800+ Day running streak!! I also work for plastic waste awareness. However, plastic waste is responsible for 4% of global warming, while animal agriculture has a far, far greater share in it.

Exactly, most of the activists are trying to do good with noble intentions but don't have facts and data to understand that what actions will really make any difference. Some do for jsut feeling good and some others just to garner following. People just want to turn a blind eye to realize how there demand for milk, meat, fish and eggs is creating demand for an industry which single handedly ruining the whole concept of sustainable living.

I respect what do you but being vegan isn't just about saving enviornment. It's shifting the global food production industry towards more plant based unlike india the entire world consumes trillion tons of animals industralised and suffered beings. we are moving forward in the future if we continue the same eating habits we can't sustain the planet. Unlike past today's polpulation has tripled in size and most of the people have overcome many basic needs of food & shelter. so if you happen to have choice to put food on your table. It's important to make conscious choice about it. Yes get food from local market, grow your own food, you can thrive as healthy as you can with plant based food. Without needing to kill animals. I'm not saying that entire population should go vegan, cause we live in diverse world there are some people living a very basic life such as Islands and they fish or raise animals to feed the family. Also Cow is mother and in order to give milk she needs to be pregnated and today to feed the entire population cows get forcefully pregnated to milk not for their calves but for the raising human population. What kind of sanity is that, we have tortured, comodified animals for our consumption, use, entertainment at Zoo, experiments at lab, their skin for fashion and cosmetics. How insane is that? Yet not everyone thinks about it, about what they consume and where it comes from. Imagine someday aliens take over planet and commodify humans from entertainment and food. Change starts with you. It's not only about enviornement and animals problem. Today the world is facing the consciousness problem. As the more and more people get conscious and aware we will naturally walk aligned with nature. We will not have to protect it. Respecting nature and other beings will be a part of our everyday life. Cause You are Nature itself. You are a part of everything.
