I grew up in Texas a place where you could say takes its football rather serious from pee wee to pro. I love the sport and played for 12 years from Jr High to college. Being a very devout Steeler fan the NFL was always the way to go for me and I still love it. However I agree with points made in the video and have been a Sask. Riders fan since the 80's as I began watching the CFL on cable. I love the pace of the game and the differences are what makes the CFL more exciting in many ways compared to the NFL. Anyway you may not get the 120 million dollar players but that also adds to the game as many of the players have regular off season jobs. The love of the game and many of the Grey Cups have been more exciting and down to the wire compared to blowout or boring Super Bowls in the past. So a football loving transplanted Texan loves the CFL game, enough said. Have a great day and God bless Canada.

I became interested in the CFL in 1979, due to the influence and popularity of a quarterback that hardly anyone here in the States knows. Lions in 1987. He has been enshrined in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and is still beloved to this day.

Thanks for making this video. Im a big CFL fan as i am Canadian, and ive never been into the NFL as it has always seemed slower as you mentioned. As you watch and learn more about the CFL i think youll find the game is typically more exciting due to a few things. 1: i'd say more scoring happens (at least during the summer months) its not un common for teams to put up 25-40 points against each other 2: no lead is safe; this has been a theme in the cfl for decades and was a slogan a few years back. The CFL allows for any team to win at any time and it seems like a team can rally an exciting come back at any point. I have stopped watching games countless times when a team has gone up 3 or more TD's only to find out the next day that the losing team came back and won 3: as you mentioned, fewer downs, more throwing, more big plays, more scoring, more excitement.

There isn't more scoring in the CFL. The top team in the CFL averaged 30 points a game, the NFL had 2 teams that averaged more. No lead is safe in any football game. Teams make huge comebacks in the NFL all the time. Teams make big comebacks in NCAA and high school football too. That's a big part of football's appeal. And there certainly isn't more throwing or big plays in the CFL. The NFL has become a passing league over the last 15 years. Have you not noticed NFL passing records are being broken constantly? If you like the CFL great, but it's a minor league with minor league players. Comparing it to the NFL is absurd.
@ericrivas41065 жыл бұрын
Quincy Longman you’re absolutely right. Don’t get me wrong, I love the NFL and College ball in the states, but in terms of comeback games in the CFL, that’s one of the main reasons why I love watching the games. Case in point just last month The Argos were down by thirty points I believe in the first half against The Bombers, and came back to win there first win of the season. The crowds in those teams hometowns are definitely as dedicated as any other franchise team in the states, if not more so. I love the CFL
@Rindiculousfun5 жыл бұрын
Jason Allen Now while it’s true that comebacks can happen in the NFL, the rules in the CFL are specifically tailored so that you cannot grind down the clock. There is stoppage time in the last 3 minutes. So just think in the NFL if you hit the two minute warning and have the ball and the other team has no timeouts you have already won. In the cfl with the same situation if you don’t get a first town a team will get the ball back with over a minute remaining and it only takes about a minute to be able to drive the entire field. Also there is more scoring in the CFL. 9-6 games are unheard of in the CFL while they’re pretty common in the NFL. Just because there’s more parity in the CFL is the reason why there are two teams in the NFL who score more points per game

When people say "minor league" they don't mean it's a D league for the NFL (although in the past the NFL has had deals with the CFL for access to players), they mean it's level of play, caliber of players etc is far below NFL standards. The CFL is a minor league, comparable to the AAFL as far as player quality goes. Nobody who is playing in the CFL is doing it because they chose it over the NFL. I think the average salary in the CFL is around $100,000 (not sure if that's Canadian dollars or American) while the average salary in the NFL is something like $600,000. Min CFL salary is something like $55,000 while min in the NFL is close to $500,000. So any player that CAN play in the NFL is going to choose to play in the NFL over the CFL. "Minor league" doesn't necessarily mean "developmental league", it just means it's not a league with top talent. People forget the CFL tried to expand to the USA and it bombed horribly.

Personally, I think the best thing for American football fans to do is find a CFL team to follow and watch them through the offseason. I’ve had a ton of fun rooting for the Ottawa Redblacks. I’ve also picked up the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL and the St Kilda Saints in the AFL, meaning there’s plenty of year-round football action to enjoy.

As a Canadian living near the border. I have been a fan of both leagues. One is not better than the other, they are two different types of the same game. The CFL is an older league than the NFL. The NFL has bigger crowds and is watched all over the world. It is like comparing Rugby League to Rugby Union. The CFL is a faster paced game like Rugby league, and the NFL is more like Rugby union a more power based game. There is far more change of possession in the CFL than the NFL. There are more big running plays in the NFL than the CFL, as there is more emphasis on passing in the CFL. There is usually more games that come right down to the wire in the CFL than in the NFL. Also, because of the longer and wider field you get more kick returns for touchdowns than the NFL. Because of the extra down in the NFL, you get a more balanced play and longer possession times. There is a lot more punting in the CFL. I have been to many Buffalo Bills home games over the years as well as Hamilton Tiger Cats games. I have enjoyed both leagues over the years, and have seen many great games on both sides of the border.

as an Ottawa fan, it has always confused me that TO media just has not supported the CFl for over 50 years but that is essentially the problem. In 1989 at the TO gray Cup my friend and I went for a walk the morning of game day and found a sports store about two blocks from the stadium. When asked why no CFL merch was in the store the sales person looked puzzled and said no one buys that in TO and when told the Grey Cup would be played about two blocks away simply said IF IT AIN'T AMURICAN WE DON"T SELL IT. We said f the store and left. That is the result of TO media .

Montreal is doing better this year (so far) as you probably know! Brando Zylstra is playing for your Vikings I believe...at least last season...he played for Edmonton and had a great last season in our league! And one appealing thing for American viewers is that 20 players from each team are not Canadians and are most often Americans! We've also added a Global player to the roster this year which is very cool. Thx for making this video. Hope youre still a fan!

Whether they like it or not doesn't change the fact that it's a minor league. Is the talent level comparable to the NFL? Nope. It's well below the NFL because the NFL pays so much more. I like going and watching minor league baseball games but that doesn't change the fact that it's minor league baseball.
@thomasrocker74085 жыл бұрын
@@Vichedges do you know why the NFL pays more or when the NFL started paying more? It had absolutely nothing to do with talent level. In 1982 the United States broadcast network's bought the broadcast rights to the NFL for millions ( now billions). I played in both leagues. First in the NFL and then the CFL. I signed with the CFL franchise for $12,000 dollars more per year. In I believe 1980, after taking the L.A Rams to the Super Bowl, quarterback Vince Ferragamo signed with the Alouettes for $100,000 more than the Rams paid him. Now of course the NFL's talent level is higher because of the pay, but I still believe that the CFL as a league is far superior. The game itself is much more entertaining and exciting. So people can say anything that they want but I can say that when I played, there was absolutely no difference in the talent level.

@@thomasrocker7408 Of course I know why the NFL pays more, it's because more people watch. The NFL's TV viewership and attendance is many times that of the CFLs. Duh. Thanks though Capt Obvious. And I call BS on your claim the talent levels were equal when you played. What was the average NFL salary VS the average CFL salary back then? There's always been the occasional big signing by the CFL, like Rocket Ismail. That doesn't mean on average the talent levels were the same. How many big name players back then chose to play in the CFL over the NFL lol? Were there a lot of number 1 draft picks than went up north to play instead of the NFL and I just missed it? As far as the game being more entertaining and exciting, sure thing. Nice to know you enjoy minor league football.

This came up in my feed today, and I'm unsure why it's never popped up before. Like you, I am from Minnesota, and I have checked out of the NFL and Vikings for obvious reasons. That said, back in 2017, I caught a mid- to late-season CFL game and was instantly hooked. And, after doing my research to find "my" CFL team, as well as considering my geographic location, I selected the Winnipeg Blue Bombers -- as they had not won a CFL in decades at the time, and were once coached by Bud Grant. Note: My favorite CFL players are not necessarily Blue Bombers. Most of those are Roughriders and Tiger-Cats. The CFL is a faster game, and sometimes close games aren't over until the last play because the team that's ahead needs first downs to keep the ball. Obviously the Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup in 2019, making that victory the closest I have ever come to seeing a Super Bowl victory since being a Vikings fan in the mid-70s. I have endured a lot of QBs, running backs and disappointment. The CFL has lessened that heartache.

He is the first ( and I think only) Coach to be elected to the Hall of Fame in BOTH leagues and so far the only coach to lead teams to the Grey Cup (4-2) and Superb Owl (0-4). And he is still hunting and fishing at 91. Not bad for a skinny kid who is a polio survivor. If you ever get a chance, go see a CFL game in person.

You looked for similarities to the Vikings. Have you ever heard of the 4x Winnipeg Blue Bombers Grey Cup Champion head coach named Bud Grant? Als pfft lol

cfl is the only sports league in northern america that is worth even one second of my attention. haven't followed ice hockey or baseball in years, and nfl hasn't existed in my universe in decades.

A well kept secret.. This football is so much more offensively exciting.. Live in Colorado...and stream the games. Cant wait for the CFL season to start... Thanks for the post

The CFL is definitely it’s own league that deserves respect. I’m a sports analyst from Texas and on my weekly show I always try to have a CFL update. People eat it up. I’ve personally been an Argos fan since about 2010 when I found out about the league. And honestly following the Argos has been one of the most fun things for me to do as a fan. I am just 20 years old but I am making it a point to go see a CFL game in person very soon. I think a lot of Americans should give the league a look.

This is great! I live in Toronto and sadly others don't appreciate the team. Oddly, we get bills fans that drive up from buffalo. Hopefully you get a chance to see a game.

But did you know San Antonio had a CFL team in 1995? :)

jonnybobbo I did! It’s too bad it didn’t work out. I would have loved to see the Argos play in Texas if it were to happen.

@@anthonysalemi373 the sad part is Toronto TV numbers are good, just can't get people to actually goto the games....

@@BuckChongus That's because it's near-impossible to get to BMO Field with Toronto's traffic problems. Fortunately, I have the option of just taking the GO train to BMO but I only do that when my beloved Alouettes are in town! heheheheh

Im a blue bombers fan, and to me The CFL is the second chance league!! I wouldn't consider it a minor league to CFL! Chris Strevelar was unable to crack the NFL after college, He did not give up on his dream! So he tried out for WPG blues bombers and now he's apart of the Arizona Cardinals!! And was the first QB in CFL history to start a game out of college!!
