$150 is not enough even for small cities in Canada. Remember these cancellations don’t happen weeks or months in advance (where you could get a bargain on a hotel). We are talking day of travel, sometimes at night. And if you book a hotel at the last minute, particularly with hundreds of other passengers in the same situation, the prices will go up!

Also, passengers might not be familiar with where they are or have vehicles that can be used to drive to a cheaper hotel. Besides, who wants to travel far from the airport when waiting on flights to be rebooked?

WestJet is currently in the running for worst airline in Canada. Just one awful experience after another, compounded by their deceit and fraudulent behaviour. I recently filed a civil claim against them because they outright refuse to comply with APPR regulations. WestJet used to be my favourite airline, now they're a disgrace.

West jet doesn’t reimburse passengers for hotel costs and cancellations. All the rules are in place to protect the airline not the passengers. They treat their staff bad and when they go on strike passengers suffer and don’t get any reimbursement. Very poor customer service

Gosh I spent a night at a motel and it was 220 after all the amount of taxes I had to pay 🥴
