Hi. The call that I got was in Japanese but he did speak in easy, plain Japanese. I also have a feeling that if they really felt like you can’t communicate in Japanese, they would at least use a few words in English. Good luck :)

I have been applying for Rakuten credit card, but every time it gets rejected. When inquired they ask me to apply after 6 months, but don’t disclose the reason. I have been living in Japan for more than 5 years, have a stable job and consistent tax paying history. No defaults whatsoever. Moreover I have Amex credit card issued in Japan. I am really puzzled as to whats going wrong with my Rakuten card application!

Same same same. Make sure you don't apply to more than one card at a time though. Credit card companies can see that you are applying to more than one and there fore automatically reject you (who the heck knows why but I read that online several times, so be careful). Also, every time you get rejected that's really "bad" because credit card issuers can see that you were rejected in the past and therefore become more reluctant to issue you one in the future (regardless of why you had been rejected in the past). It's crazy.. but yeah.

I don’t know why the option is no longer present when I tried to make a fake application this time around but back when I actually applied for the card in 2018, you get to decide the limit by choosing it when you apply. In any case, once you get approved, you can change your credit limit by logging into your account online or via the app.

Yep, you can use the points for shopping on their site. There’s an option for you to just choose to pay with points. You can download the Rakuten card app for easy checking of your points balance, payables etc

Hm, sorry. I honestly was not aware that you could do it in English. I only ever tried doing it in Japanese so I can't say which one would be easier. This guide also takes you through the process of filling in the Japanese forms.

If you are an Amazon prime member I suggest getting an Amazon gold card. Make sure that you apply for the signature card and then once you have that upgrade to the gold card don’t apply for the gold card directly because then you won’t be able to avail of the campaign. The price may seem hefty at about ¥10,000 a year. However that already comes with a free prime membership so take around 4000 from the ¥10,000 then that would leave you with ¥6000 plus if you avail of the paperless billing they will also deduct from your yearly fee. And another thing you can avail of is the Ribo payment which would also deduct from your annual fee. I don’t have the actual numbers right now but when all of these are considered you would end up paying just around ¥1000 over your annual prime membership fee. With this you get 2.5% Cashback for all your purchases in Amazon and 1.5% when you shop outside of Amazon. The Amazon gold cars insurance is also great especially if you’re traveling abroad. I hope to make a Vlog of this sometime soon so watch out for it.

Hello I just applied and got approved still waiting for the card to be deliver. The thing is, when I fill up the form upon applying I write my name First in Hiragana for kanji field since I dont have a kanji name because im a foriegner here then katakana then romanji. My question is are they going to write on the card the romanji name or hiragana? I am afraid they will use the hiragana one since when they email me informing I got approved they used the hiragana. If that the thing i guess I wont be able to receive my card since I dont have any identification card with hiragana name, all was written in Romanji. examplae resident card, drivers license. you have to call the rakuten call center if you can't speak japanese please ask for a english speaking person.Then you have to say that since you are a foreigner you have all the identy documents in ENGLISH then they will ask your full name etc. and they will send a document to your home and you have to send the documents and you will get the card

Hi. I haven’t tried purchasing something with 3 months to pay yet but my understanding is that your balance will always be your credit limit less your payables so if you have 3man payable and you pay 1man, it will be back to 8man since you still have 2man payable.
