ACNH certainly isn't the most technical game of all time, but it came out in such an edgy time in history, and it was nice to have a good escape from the pandemic, and it got so popular we even used it to replace some activities we couldn't anymore.

@John lack of dialogue, furniture, qol updates people wanted i guess, special characters, buildings, replaced old characters, minigames for online and the single player ones, items, house options and stuff is what I would say although its getting better and fuller the game on release didn't have much but I'm sure in the future there's lots more updates to introduce that I think one of my problems was the ost it hasnt grown on me

I gotta say, ACNH is the biggest disappointment for me in the AC series. Not only they lack dialogue, mini games, and many more, but also the game friggin lacks on events. Btw, New Horizons has the fewest events in game so far, next to Wild World. That’s why I haven’t played much NH since summer and just playing New Leaf and Population Growing (Animal Crossing for Gamecube) since they have more to offer than NH. I do hope NH would win Family Game of the Year, not GOTY.

Agreed this game is too slow and many of the players left because of the lack of updates and things to do. Sure the holiday events are fun but they don't last for long at all. I think this game should get top 10 games of 2020 but I don't see it getting game of the year.

I probably would have been going absolutely insane without Animal Crossing: New Horizons during quarantine. When school closed down, my teachers weren’t assigning anything, and I had nothing to do, so I would’ve just been sitting there for the whole quarantine. I didn't think it deserves to win, simply because there isn't enough technical features. My game of the year pick would've been "Ghost of Tsushmina" because it's stunning, has a great story and characters, and it's original. I do like ac but where it lacks is originality, its basically just an extra to the other games with better graphics. This is my opinion so don't attack please

I am someone who loves AC but doesn't think it should win. You should award a game because it is good, not because it came at the right time. AC:NH has so little depth. Sure, it's a good island designer game, but apart from that it's missing so much. Most of the people here in the community who say that AC should be GOTY usually write that AC was their first game. I advise you to play the previous ones, then you will see really good AC games. The Villager in NH are just lifeless. My villagers can sing as much as they want, they all end up saying the same thing over and over again. They don't visit you anymore, they don't make friends among each other, etc. AC:NH has simply become a mainstream game which is 1/10 of its original self, but sold for twice as much :/.

Ah yes animal crossing i always felt animal crossing gave me control i started out tiny i think 7 or 8 in new leaf when i got older life changed so i turned to animal crossing going out into the island anx meet all different types of ppl then new horizons gave me the unlimited control i can choose what ppl call me i can choose to place a lamp outdoors lol and the whole island is a whole "give it your best shot " but 2020 came i have no clue were i would be without animal crossing 💚

Let me take you back. It’s Christmas, nobody but my close family is in the house because of the pandemic, and i’m still freaking out after money and research stacked on my desk, I had gotten a hamster. I open a small box. Oh, neat! A Nintendo Lite! Whenever we get a console, we get a game, right? I open the next package. “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” “Oh, cool! Thanks, Mom and Dad!” As soon as I opened the game and started my journey, every problem melted away. I, a small, round-handed individual wearing a pinapple shirt, was thrown on an island and expected to make something of myself. And I did. As the world burned and sCrEaMeD in agony, I was happily discovering new types of bugs, trying to pay the dang house loan, and meeting my neighbors. Now this was real, whole goodness. No fighting, no quick moving things, all I had to do was nothing. And my world shaped itself for me every time I donated a fish or talked to Fushia about the flowers from her dad she forgot to water. What could be better? (When you can swim faster. That will make the game better.)

I have never touched an animal crossing game(I’m crazy, I know) When I first saw the ad for this game, I immediately wanted it, because it looked fun. I saw the ad in about May, and my birthday is in November(it’s already passed lol) So when I finally got it, I have played it non stop lol. Watching Animal Crossing videos since its release to the day I finally got it in the middle of April convinced me not only to buy Animal Crossing but to buy a Switch and a few other must-plays for it despite the fact I haven't been into games before. After 1,180 hours spent on this game without Nintendo Switch Online, being the only one in my friend group who plays it and consequently not having the full New Horizons experience, I don't regret anything.

Now that we're on this topic. I feel a little emotional because this game has done so much for me this year. ACNH is a game that brings me comfort and yes, it's true, let's me forget about what is happening IRL. Any time I'm stressed after work or feeling anxious. I turn on my switch and play. I love playing with other people which is something I haven't done since I was twelve years old. I'm obsessed with my switch and I bring it everywhere with me even if I'm not going to play on it. I know that ACNH is there for me and atleast for me, it's a beautiful addiction.❤🥺 I love this game and will continue to show my support for it. I'm so excited for what's to come to the game in the next year. Truly, amazing and definitely deserves #1 as best game of the year. For the $60 upfront is equivalent to free therapy every day. I feel my coin is well spent!

I've played Doom Eternal since it launched, and even though I only picked up AC a month or two ago, the hours I've spent in both are neck and neck. Okay I will admit it Animal Crossing New Horizons was the one game that helped me with the pandemic. However saying its like the "best game ever" is very debatable. The game has a lot of issues that have went unaddressed and despite the updates we've been getting there still a lot of things missing and a lot of other stuff that needs to be improved. I will agree that this game really did a great job with the graphics and how it gave us the freedom to make our islands the way we want which is why I spent so much time on this game making my island the way I wanted to and I got more better as time went on, but it all changes when you question "well what is there to do in this game?". Thats when you realize that the game becomes different when you find yourself doing the same tasks everyday, talking to your villagers but they all say the same thing, and of course when you do all of that you earn nothing but Nook Miles. Sure it was fun at the time but later on it just got too repetitive. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed my time with this game but I am not going to pretend like its like "Game of the year" worthy. I know this may seem controversial but I am giving my honest thoughts.

So, I usually don't get deep like this but I just got out of the hospital today. I was in there for a week due to poor mental health and I was really close to the edge.. Honestly Animal Crossing was the only thing that I felt kept me sane in there. I honestly felt like it really contributed to making me feel better. Being able to try to keep a task oriented mindset, and with just how relaxing it can be to lay back and play such a simple but fun game. It kind of surprised me how much enjoyment I was able to get out of it because I'm usually playing fighters or rpg's like Smash Bros or Dark Souls. Just because of how much I feel like Animal Crossing helped me out I would love for it to get game of the year. Definitely now in the top contenders for my favorite game, and I'd recommend it to anyone that has a switch as a must play.🙂

I agree with you this game saves 2020 and I have never touched in Animal Crossing game till August and if you like it was New Horizons know it was pocket Camp you like why pocket camp because it's very well it's actually a great game but when I started touching and then when I the Halloween release came out for New Horizon I realize how awesome the game was and I need it in my life and the thing that made me even once it more was in the middle of November my game is no longer compatible with my phone so it completely removed itself so I couldn't touch it anymore and that made me want New Horizons even more than they already did and I wanted a lot
