In fairness, it's not just anime/manga. It's inevitable whenever corporate interests and greed take over the creative process, and the art becomes hijacked to serve the cause of making more and more money. (And part of it is also due to the fans themselves, who want to see more of what they love, sometimes even when the story is complete and nothing more needs to be said.) Of course, you can't divorce capitalism entirely from the creative process; any project needs funding, after all. But there does need to be some kind of consensus between the creators, the sponsors, and the fans as to when a story is "finished".

The inspiration was drawn from MTG and the entire reason behind it's spinoff into the card game it is now was through its potential to sell but the creator used it as a platform to make a game he thought was fun and would bring people together. It's in his afterword when the series ended. All he wanted was for people to get together and play cool games and have a good time. But don't worry, Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't miss you. Exactly the series that stand the test of time and are often considered the greatest were short and had a clear definitive end. Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Cowboy Bebop. Trigun. Fooly Cooly. Samurai Champloo. That's my kinda anime list and the only outlier to that is DragonBall Z because it's basically Anime Wrestling.

Yeah, kind of. It's nuanced of course, but i also usually enjoy a finished Story, that doesn't take a whole fucking Week of Watch Time. (Yeah, i'm looking at you, Fairy Tail!) However... One Piece is also a Behemoth of Runtime, but at least they keep it mostly fresh, by introducing entirely new and usually compelling Things to the Story and the World. The Prime Example of a Show done perfect however, is: "Avatar the last Airbender" I really can't complain about a single Thing on that Show.

@@prowers2623 What's fun is that a couple of the OVAs are really just parts of the manga they didn't manage to fit inside the show itself (Ilse's notebook and I believe Levi's origin story as well?), some of them are adapted from a spin-off manga iirc (the Lost Girls ones, from what I remember), and then there's just a couple that seem to be just random stuff. Really just overall a well-written story that doesn't overstay its welcome, which isn't that common, sadly.

@@unusuallycloudy I bothered watching quite a lot of Season 2, but just skipped to the last episode of the last Season, because i didn't give a Fuck anymore. I watched about 9 Seasons of TWD or so. (Or at least i think i did. I didn't give a Damn anymore somewhere after Raymond was defeated and Maggie was going to Plot against Rick for sparing him. At that point i was just like: "Ah Shit, here we go again... 😒" and decided to finally quit it.) One Show that really did it right with Length and Pacing, was Breaking Bad. I really can't complain about a single Thing in this Show. (Except for Skylar, lol.)
