Apple is going to eventually end the iPhone and replace it with a revolutionary new product... at least, that's the plan. Rumors are swirling that the iPhone 15 may mark the end of an era as Apple introduces its long-rumored mixed reality Apple Reality Headset in 2023. Let's discuss why this is going to be such a big deal and the big changes Apple has planned for the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Ultra.

This video is a great example that people will watch anything on KZbin that shines (high budget gear + set, good editing etc.) no matter the content itself. AR goggles and phones have very little competition with each other. AR/VR is the next big thing of this decade in consumer electronics, but it won't affect the phone market in any significant way.

When I am on the go, I am not gonna just take out my fucking VR goggles to check the time or text a friend. I would rather just take out my phone. The phone market is saturating, I think the whole craze about cameras and how well they look is getting boring. I just think this whole one phone every year is gonna die out. People will realize that each year, the phone barely changes and just keep one until it breaks. Apple has to do something other than pretending like they are changing an innovating every single time. Phones will still exist, but will sell a lot less. TL:DR.

It seems a foregone conclusion that glasses would overtake any handheld unit, if it can technically be done. We already use and hold and stare at our phones for hours every day, eliminating the need to hold it and being able to cycle through visible physical information and technological information such as translation, video, perhaps linking to other people, say having the ability to link up to your wife and her glasses and what she sees, the world information aggregate able and accessible instantly, etc. My concern comes from the censorship and entire control over information on the hall. It will get to a point where there will be no dissent Because information won’t even be arguable. It’s similar to history is written by the victors, except no way to research any alternative

The VR headset and goggles are a joke, but I think it’s very hard to argue against glasses or some type of lightweight lens. At some point it will completely eliminate the need for anything handheld

One of the many problems with Google Glass was that lots of people need prescription glasses, and a significant fraction of them need to be pretty picky about the fit and weight of glasses. (I get nasty headaches if my glasses fit is off by just a tiny bit, and most glasses frames are just too heavy (and also cause nasty headaches and earaches and sore bridge of my nose). Apple has pretty clearly not really taken seriously the possibility that people might want to use their phones outside in places where hats, scarves, and gloves are mandatory, so I have very little faith that they will adequately consider the needs of the 64-71% of adults [in the US] who already wear (prescription) glasses.

yes. I think when they released the iphone it was different, because before the iphone if someone wanted to go to, lets say, the mall, they would likely bring car keys, wallet, phone, ipod, and maybe something else. but now we can already do all that in one device. the idea of “only bring one thing” already exists. some cars and doorbells can be opened with an iphone. iphones have apple pay or other apps to replace your wallet, and now they can also carry identification. obviously your phone can call, text, play music, etc. so really all you NEED to bring is an iphone. even things you would usually do on a computer, like browse the internet or edit a document, can mostly be done on your phone. and newer phones have the chips needed to do minor photo/video editing. iphones already replaced anything else you’d take with you.

true but the only real rivals are Meta and vive. Meta is a complete joke, and has somehow stepped backwards in innovation ever since it took over oculus. Vive is still very gamer centered, unlike the Meta, it targets a niche rather than trying to convince people its a device for everyone. As much of an “Android” fan I am, I have to admit that apple does indeed innovate. Having an actual large “tech” company take interest in such areas is awesome for the future of vr/ar. The biggest problem with this vision in my mind is battery. Although there have been huge advancements in certain areas, batteries have more or less stagnated. We still have apple watches that can't even go 2 days. The current augmented reality goggles have about 90 minutes of battery. How on earth will you get a full day of battery into a pair of glasses? There will have to be some huge, unforeseen leaps in batteries, unless you want a chord going from your glasses into your pocket or something...

First of all, I am happy that the battery life of future iPhones will be much, much better. I don’t know how much better, but I’m glad to hear it anyway. I am totally blind person who uses the iPhone because the screen reader is built right in. I haven’t tried the Apple Mac as yet as far as the computer is concerned, but I intend to very soon. it is the use of VoiceOver and Siri commands that I hope is improved in future iPhones, because I want to stress that blind people are edging toward this product specifically because it makes us more independent. so Apple should realize that blind people are among their best customers! having said that, I am also slightly interested in this new camera that is being inserted in the new iPhone 15. This is great news. I would also like to see a tripod created for the iPhone, so when I am showing somebody something, I don’t have to focus the camera specifically on it but can hold it up in front of the camera and know that it is being the focus of that camera. I don’t know what to think about the glasses that are being created, but if they work for me, believe me I will buy them. but mainly it is the artificial intelligence aspect of all this that appeals to me. Anything that could make me feel as if I’m actually regaining my vision, so to speak.

I think keeping the iPhone (and especially the iPad) around alongside the mixed reality devices is a better decision, because I find the mixed reality concept fascinating, but until Apple has a good idea of how this tech is used in the real world, and compare it to their existing products, I don’t think deleting the iPhone, or any mainstream Apple product is a good idea. And personally, I’d much rather use these new devices with each other, and even alongside non-Apple products and devices, instead of relying on just Apple, or just one Apple device for everything! Even if it CAN do everything, I don’t want to just stick to one device or one company! But like I said, I’m eager to see this new mixed reality device! Also another concern is if this thing catches on fire. Someone is going to loose their eyesight. I will keep using an iPhone for the rest of 2020s. I will by this sometime in 2025 or 2026 when people start using them more until then if that even happens. I am going to continue using my iPhone 13. I am going to use my phone to play games or read. Reading on the phone is better. I will wait 3 years until I feel comfortable. Just 3.5 years ago I was using a home button iPhone. Otherwise this will significantly help those that are blind.

Lots of problems with google glass, lack of battery power, you could get beat up or get it stolen if you used it in America, and Chinese & ASEAN were too poor to buy it 10 years ago. Today the screen can be made opaque or translucent more easily, Chinese are richer, the cost is lower, and the battery problems can be fixed more easily because of better solar panels and batteries and off-loading processing to the cloud, and I believe wearable keyboard/gyro-mouse tech is better/more accurate.

@@aoeu256 Valid issues but none of those are reasons why AR isn't going to replace phones. It's a different way to interface with media. A phone you can put in your pocket and forget about it, you can show things to people with ease, it's basically a camera with an internet connection, you can set it down on a table and watch content with someone, while AR goggles are basically just useful for having a real-life game UI. Imagine wanting to show your friend a meme you saw and having to take off your glasses and give it to them, or having to crouch and tilt your head in a weird way to take a photo, not being able to take selfies, or how uncomfortable it would be to lie on your bed wearing goggles. AR will definitely be a thing, but it won't replace phones entirely.

It would be ideal if it was a temple piece only with eye retina projector pieces that could be positioned like antenna wires in front of the eyes. Maybe all you would have to do is look into these projectors to see the AR. Alternatively, a holographic glass, very transparent, non-glossy where each holo-pixel can be programmed to show an image only in the user's eyes and invisible to the world. Maybe an eye tracker on the rim and a computer in the temples. A wrap around visor maybe a few centimeters away from the face; my preferred audacious new fashion. There would be a bunch of wearable technologies that are minimally intrusive or distracting. Maybe adornments.
@severnsea3924

No way something like this is going to be minimally distracting when you're crossing the road. Drivers already have problems with people wandering around like zombies because they're staring into their phones, totally oblivious if what's going on around them. It would be 10 times worse if these were the norm. In fact it would be so bad they would probably be banned as unsafe for use outdoors.

I also think a flip design makes no sense (but Ive also envisioned an iCam device before - i like photos too, and they already had a run for the music-lovers of the world with the ipod, I think an all-out, beefy camera-based device would be awesome)

There is a higher chance for the glasses to replace the iPhone then the VR/AR headset. I do wonder though how those glasses will work since the battery limit will be quite huge and also the tech specs or would it be something like a satellite direct link only for Apple devices where the true hardware and power is or something like that? While the battery will be charging from the sunlight or the light outside or inside the room since that is quite important too. I would personally like to see something like a an VR/AR/AI type of glasses that can be worn 24/7 and to charge themselves from natural sources like light or sunlight and also direct connection link to a satellite that will make a stable link with the true hardware somewhere in a hardware/server type of room. Now that would be a huge advance.

The tech necessary for that kind of transition is just not even remotely here yet, the level of advancement in power efficiency and miniaturization of silicon devices, as well as other fields, like bio-safe optics and display technology that are necessary go far beyond what plans from manufacturers that are already available in public covering the next _decade_ suggest.

Thanks for creating this video. Just wanna share my opinion. I think that headset might really lead us to the future we've been seeing in sci-fi movies. But i'm concern what will that do to our health. Like our eyesight would it worsen from those lights? would the electronic waves cause long term brain diseases or would it affect our brainwaves? If they're able to prove there are no harmful electronic waves or such that could affect our health then I'd save up and get one for myself cause it really is cool and convenient for an all-in-one device but I guess not all would be that quick to get their hands on their own Apple headset given its going to be priced that high. By the way as an Apple user for a very long time I'd still stay with the one brick design I know and love. Having to feel that slight bump or gap thing where the phone folds, kinda makes scrolling loose its momentum cause of the slight resistance. unless they are able to fix that and make the fold/dent area really flat and unnoticeable.

Well I used to be an iphone user, but a few years back I transitioned over to the Google Pixel and now have the Pixel 7pro. I don't really think this will ever get rid of not just the iPhone but every company or user wanting the headset, or even the glasses. I think a bunch of people don't like to wear glasses that's why so many get the surgery for their eyes so they don't have to wear them. Even most people don't like to wear sunglasses. But you know who knows. I just don't think this is something that is going to catch on. Especially if this is going to be in high rate money to even purchase these ridiculous things. All I know is I love using my phone to speak with people on, I wouldn't want to use glasses to do that especially if you were in bed and laying down for instance, holding your phone or using it in the stand is much simpler than putting glasses on and switching into the right position so they stay on... and I cannot speak for everyone this is just my opinion don't come for me. @@samjsim10ss Depends on How Apple is going to "sell" them. Also, phones, people hated to bring a" brick" in their pocket until that "brick " brought to them infinity utilities.

In some futuristic movies, they just have a little round thing that sits on the side of your forehead, that somehow projects a picture into your eyes eyes. Too scary for me.

Charging throttling via USB-C. Sounds like a brilliant plan to say to the customers that their "lightning" is better. I wonder how long it will take to have that plan backfire...

If I could have a heads up display projected onto my glasses and have that replace my phone, I’d be down. But there are some serious challenges that would have to be overcome. Watching video, typing out messages that you may not want to speak aloud with other people around, etc. Directions/gps is easy enough to do AR with but the interface will be more difficult with no physical keyboard (be it touch screen or buttons).

I think you will still need to have a “bar” phone of some type. I dont believe the glasses will replace the bar, but i do see how it could be a substitute for the watch.

I think, Apple will come up with iGlass which will sync with iPhone like Apple Watches and can be used to get iPhone features hands freely like AirPods, Apple Watch and few features like maps, music, watching videos in home, reading emails can be done without taking iPhone in hand.

If they put them in eyeglasses, I hope there’s a “driving mode” that either shuts them off or somehow profoundly enhances the experience and safety of driving; so drivers don’t kill each other interacting with the amazing wonders of this new, enhanced virtual world we are all about to enter.

I've used some VR headsets. They are cool, and it feels like a next-gen experience, but I can never wear one for more than 5 minutes.
