Plainapple287 there’s no comparison. Apple’s and oranges. Google mini is an ordinary tiny speaker. There’s some incredible tech inside the HomePod and you can hear it. Why are people forcing Apple to make an inferior speaker. There is jealousy that apple developed a product like the HomePod and of course there’s people who hate music or care nothing about it. You are clearly not the target audience for the HomePod.

Sound quality matters. Apple wasn’t setting out to make a cheap crappy speaker to compete with Google or Amazon. I think they screwed up by not allowing third party music providers on the device . Also they’ve had Siri since 2007 and did nothing innovative to improve the smart assistant allowing competitors to bypass them. Someone at Apple has not been paying attention. That said i am in love wth the superior sound for a speaker its size. It packs a lot of power and then some. Apple has never been about mediocre or average. If that’s what you want then go to another platform. Ordinary sound for ordinary people.

Strong Fatman I think a lot of techies positioned the HomePod as an echo or google home assistant competitor. It’s not that kind of a product. It’s a music player. Superior audio quality is it’s strength. They should’ve improved Siri years ago before Amazon and Google came along and bypassed them. A Big mistake on apple’s part. Someone at Apple made some bad decisions in not doubling down on evolving Siri’s capabilities and making her smarter. They need to hire smart assistant specialist and sink some money into revamping Siri to match or even surpass Google io and amazon Alexa.

2 problems: 1: it's not the smartest speaker, and It's not the best sounding speaker for 350. very few people want both, and if you care oly about the smartness, you buy the echo or google home. if you want just a speaker, you get something non-smart. even if you do care about both, you could get a ghome max, or a and echo dot + external speaker combo, and get similar sound quality, at a similar price, with better smart features. 2: speakers last a long time. the will keep working for a long time, and they don't really become obsolete. I expect that sound quality wise, the homepod will age well. the problem is, there is no headphone jack, or bluetooth, or any other standardized way to connect with it. when apple ends support, it wil basically become a brick. that is a shame, because the sound quality could very well be on pr with the 300 dollar speakers of the next 10 years. oh well. I guess, if nothing else, when apple drops support, they will be super cheap on ebay, and I can buy them, and hack in some standard input.

What absolutely nobody has mentioned is the revolution in sound distribution that this speaker has brought to home hifi. It calibrates itself to the room, so it knows that it’s 4 feet away from that wall, 8 feet away from the other wall, 12 feet away from the other wall and adjust all its speakers so you get perfectly even sound throughout the room. Download a decibel metre in your phone and stand by a couple of HomePods, take a reading, and then walk around the room and you’ll see what a phenomenal thing this is. If you’re sitting 2 feet away from it or if you’re way across the room, the sound is perfectly even. If your at a severe axis from the two speakers, you can still hear both of them clearly and get a stereo image even at a very acute angle. This is some revolutionary audio engineering at work here, and absolutely everybody missed it. These things sound phenomenally good, and to do this with conventional speakers you would need seven or eight of them all around the room and have them carefully calibrated. I’m glad I have a pair of the big ones, and I have a pair of the little ones on my kitchen table. But the big ones sound incredibly good. By the way, I’m a 63-year-old Professional Musician, and I have a pair of the finest small studio monitors on the planet, Adam A5X’s, and I have the subwoofer that goes with them. Yes, they sound better than the HomePod, but only when you’re directly in front of them. Off axis, the HomePods spank them silly. For non-critical listening, or when you just want to share music with your friends, the HomePod is very tough to beat. Sonos, Echoes, and all those other things just sound like cardboard. I’m so upset the dumb ass reviews helped kill this magnificent speaker. This thing is revolutionary. You need a pair of them to truly get it.

7:08 Apple should just release a “HomePod Mini” to compete with the Amazon Echo Dot and Google Home Mini. Perhaps they can make the primary focus of the HomePod Mini the voice assistant and focus on the sound quality with the regular HomePod.
@a_nervous_wreck Жыл бұрын
I've owned a HomePod for a few years, and it could have been one of my favorite Apple products ever, if not for a few major flaws, mostly revolving around Siri. The sound quality is some of the best I've ever heard, and using it is pretty easy, whether through voice control or using my phone. It's also very good at knowing what kind of music I might actually be interested in, and I've discovered a few of my favorite new artists thanks to HomePod, or more so thanks to Apple Music. The main drawback for me is when giving certain commands, Siri will just randomly not understand the request, or say that it can't do that, even though it has done the aforementioned request numerous times in the past. Even when it comes to music, sometimes it won't understand when I'm requesting a certain album, especially if the album title doesn't have words, but rather characters. Or if the artist name is tricky to pronounce, it can be difficult to get Siri to understand what artist I'm talking about, and it'll end up playing a different artist with a similar sounding name. Also, Siri will become activated randomly just from watching a video on KZbin where someone says the word Siri or says something that vaguely sounds like "Hey Siri", which isn't a deal breaker necessarily, but can get pretty annoying. Overall, while I'm happy with the HomePod and found way more enjoyment out of it than I thought I would get, I feel like they really need to work on making Siri smarter in the future. And that's not just for HomePod, but for the whole Apple ecosystem. IMO Siri is the worst smart assistant in the business, which is crazy to me considering Apple has had so much time to help it evolve, yet it feels like it's treated as a tacked on afterthought.

@stevenyoung64154 жыл бұрын
If it were really a Bluetooth speaker, it would connect to complimentary Bluetooth audio sources... not just Apple Music. 🤦🏽♂️😖 You can’t even play many audio output apps from an iOS device to the HomePods. That just doesn’t make any good sense for a product that has so much potential to be successful. I can say I’m disappointed at best. (I don’t even do Apple Music...so my HomePods just look nice in my office, for now. I’m waiting for them to wake up to what we all know they should be able to do.) 😣🙄🕸🧱🛢🧹

amazon and google have released high quality speakers with home assistant and smart home integration. Amazon have also released products that can make older speakers become smart speakers. Amazon have also linked with companies like Sonos. The main issue with the HomePod is that it’s too limited...it’s a speaker with some smart features - HomeKit for apple has issues, Siri has issues, and there’s severe compatibility issues...you need an iPhone to set it up, it doesnt work with a lot of services etc. Essentially it is a wireless speaker for apple with some smart feature BUT arguably you can head to ikea and buy a wireless speaker for £99. It way over priced, heavily limited, and not very smart.

I don’t like that you have to subscribe to Apple Music to use it. I buy my music from them so I should be able to use it. 🤦🏻♀️

I was thinking about HomePods for my bedroom that could also be used as a home cinema. But I ended up using Sonos and slowly built up a surround sound system. Sonos became more competitive after they adopted AirPlay 2.
@ecdy1155 жыл бұрын
Christopher Jennings Sonos is definitely better for home cinema, not saying HomePod is not good, but it’s just not built for that. It’s good for music listening but when it comes to movies, the sound is not as good as a Sonos surround system.

The interesting bit about the echo is that in addition to the music services that you mentioned, the echo can also play Apple Music. This alone is a compelling reason to purchase the echo over the HomePod.
@puffnstuff40045 жыл бұрын
Here are the reasons why I would never purchase a Homepod: You can't use it with anything other than an iPad, IPod Touch, or iPhone. It won't even connect with a Mac desktop!! I suspect that's a dealbreaker for a lot of other people.
@Fishmaat4045 жыл бұрын
Yeah it would be a deal breaker but fortunately it’s a bunch of bullshit. Of course you can connect it to your Mac, of course it’s only compatible with Apple products. If you’ve got an iPhone, iPad or Mac you’re golden, no biggie.

I have the white HomePod in the bedroom and Amazon Echo in the kitchen. These are the best places for them and would unlikely swap them round. I’d like to get a second HomePod for the living room but I’m hoping they’d drop the price a bit further.
@Megaaleh5 жыл бұрын
Why the HomePod failed: Too dumb to be a smart speaker and too closed in one ecosystem to be a regular speaker. Siri is SO FAR behind it’s competition. But at least it has Shortcuts. 🤷🏻♂️ If only the HomePod had Bluetooth so people could pair ANY device to it, at least it would fit in more situations.

If the price was lower, they had a good free Apple Music service, and allowed support for 3rd party apps like Spotify, amazon music, etc they’d sell A LOT more units

You missed the point about it regarding the HomeKit integration. And how it integrates with Apple TV to allow people to control home devices using their HomePod. this device is the center of the home and with its microphone array allows you to talk to your home.

The biggest problem for me was that HomePod sound quality is bad. It has no middle range frequencies. So I sold it. I'm also the owner of iPod HiFi and it's suit me well, audio quality is much better than HomePod. I connected AppleTV through toslink cable and I'm streaming music over Wifi.

I would actually love to purchase a HomePod of Apple gives it an audio jack and the ability to play music over Bluetooth. If I can use that tiny thing as a speaker for all my devices I feel I may actually be able to justify the high price.

I have homepods and I love them, but I had a conversation with a friend which I feel really reflects the challenges the product has. “I’m gonna get a Google Home Mini” “Get an Echo Dot instead. I’d rather Amazon be mining my data than Google” “Yeah I don’t trust either of them” “If you care about privacy, get a Homepod” “Yeah, I trust Apple far more, but it’s $350”. Whatever advantages Apple may have, and they do have advantages, they’re pricing themselves out of the market.
@arevee94295 жыл бұрын
The biggest limitation is only working with 'Apple Music' / iTunes without adding in the extra complication of the phone and "air play". I use a Sonos with integrated Alexa. It may not sound quite as good as the apple product, but for most things, no phone is required and it does all the things that Alexa does with voice control. In addition to playing music, streaming podcasts, etc. It sound much better than an Echo Dot, which in my opinion, is worthless for music or even streaming podcasts.

I have 2 HomePods, paired. The second one was purchased at a significant discount. I love the sound quality and use them regularly with AirPlay with my home theater system.
@ag4eng4 жыл бұрын
I think the real failure for Apple was to cancel the Airport routers instead of making them mesh. The idea of HomeKit was good, but the execution is not there. You cannot find many devices compatible with HomeKit. HomePod was more of a music speaker with EQ intelligence. It does that well, but that’s not what the market thinks it should be, so there is a lot confusion about it.
@brickman4095 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem is how locked down it is. No wired audio input of any kind, which I guess is kind of expected since they remove the headphone jack on all their products, but you can't even directly connect to it with bluetooth. You only have the option of Apple music, everything else can only be streamed with airplay. So it's like you're locked down into the Apple eco system as well as being locked down to using Apple's own music streaming service. Not even Apple sheep want that kind of restriction.
@marko28735 жыл бұрын
It needs app extentions for developers. They need to be able to create useful features so that when someone adds an app to their iPhone, their apple account adds related functionality to the homepod (including other music services). As its a communal device and not a personal one, it also needs voice print identification so it can be more personal. It's got an iPhone chip so it should be capable.
@JohnDoe-dj3xh4 жыл бұрын
they envisioned it as a high quality speaker, then neglected to allow any input method other than wirelessly (no AUX, RCA, or any other way to put sound into this thing) through an iPhone, immediately shutting out half of the phone market (and over half by some estimates), and then priced it so that you could get a much more competent set of speakers for the same price

I got mine for Black Friday for $199 and loved it. Siri works much faster than my echo for my smart light bulbs 💡 and it works really well with my appletv . I have to say the best product I own from Apple .
