This rumour has been going for - what? - almost 10 years or so. Many companies have tried to enter the EV market, most failed at building something that is profitable and desirable really. Lucid has built an EV that is quite high end, in several ways better than Tesla, but a) it is so expensive that only few are ready to buy it. b) What's worse is: despite the high price, they loose an insane (!) amount of money on every car they sell. Most EV makers (like the OEMs) are loosing money as well on every car they sell. The reported numbers are 6- digit losses *per EV* sold. BYD is the only one that can keep up in numbers with Tesla, but there are signs that they start to loose money as well. Apple hasn't even started to produce an EV. My prediction: Way way too late.

Too late to the game. Even Toyota is considered too late to the game. The leading OEMs are already in the phase of competing to reach an economy of scale. Tesla, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and BYD will dominate outside the Chinese market. The only way these newer brands can survive is to take the luxury EV niche market, but there's already stiff competition with brands like Lucid, Genesis, Tesla, and Polestar
@alinaqirizvi1441 Жыл бұрын

Lordstown is bankrupt. Foxconn has a history of failed manufacturing partnerships. The EV market is supposedly saturated and in decline. My take is that product design is too critical and too far outside Foxconn’s skill set for their manufacturing prowess to really matter. If it wants to be a contract manufacturers for cars, fine. But trying to build a new car brand and product. That is a waste of time. They needed at least a couple of billions to build huge supercomputers and have a team of thousands of software developers and operations staff to run these. EV need lots of quality software. That is a key weakness for Chinese and Taiwanese companies. Apple themselves will NEVER design and build a car, they know their opportunity window is gone. Tesla took that lead and no other can catch up with it.
