I live in Finland. My friend is Finnish Russian and when he went to see his grandparents in Russia he said after a week the shit really begins to get into your head, when the TV is on 24/7. They believe all that crap and even called him worried last winter as they heard Finland has ran out of electricity due to the sanctions. He said he really felt he can't stay there any longer anymore. But now it wouldn't be wise to go anyway anymore as the officials began questioning regular people that have served as a conscript in Finnish military like him and harassing them for no reason.

No, its just that discreditation of the armed forces is punished by law. Its not the only law that restrict freedom of speech, there are at least two other lawa, law 282, which is a law against spreading rivarly against different groups of people (which doesnt has any boundaries tbh, its really easy to get persecuted with this), and there is 148, its a law about offending feelings of religious person, its mainly used by muslims(which is fairly large and powerful group in Russia, if not the most powerful), but orthodox church has also sued some people for memes on internet. You are also forbidden to offend authorities by law, though i dont remember the number of this law. You also cant compare Soviet union to Third Reich. Something like that. Ah, i also forgot one little fact, if after all of that you still decided to be in a an opposition to the government, as a media person you can be listed as an agent of foreign influence and from this point on no one would be able to buy ads from you.

@@kiss-shotacerola-orionhear220 Dear, I know all this. I'm afraid you have misunderstood my irony. The main point is: remaining silent and running away from responsibility is not a solution. There is a relatively small group of people keeping the power in Russia. Then there is a significantly bigger group of supporters - many of them think it's their patriotic duty to do what they are told despite how stupid it is. And then there is a bigger group of conformists who just want to live their lives. And then there is a huge amount of people being afraid. They are silent majority. If they don't start to express their thoughts and share them with others - nothing will ever change. Everything starts with an attempt to explore the limits of personal freedom. If you give up at the beginning you'll remain enslaved by dumbbacks.

@@renemagritte8237 it doesn't work like that. Russia has the biggest police to population ratio, it also had the biggest protests ever , like ones on Manezhnaya and Bolotnaya squares, but nothing really changed afterwards, because Russian repression apparatus is far more stronger than anywhere else, that's why for example Ukrainian Maidan has succeeded how none of Russian protests did, this is the only reason, not the people themselves, but the circumstances of a country ruled by KGB agent.

A nervous tic, an unconscious of anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself__anything that carried the suggestion of abnormality, of having something to hide. It's "easy" to think yourself willing to die for something. More realistically the question should be what limbs, faculties and organs would you be happy to lose. Are you ready to spend the rest of your life deaf for North Korea? Are you willing to lose both arms? Or can you only spare one? For the rest of your life? (And there are other bits to think about too. And PTSD. And clinical depression. Terrible things, but these are more realistic than instant death it's possible to decide to be fatalistic about.) What kind of burn wounds are you happy to have on your face? Could you only cope if you still have your nose left? It's an ugly reality. A defender might feel there's just no alternative, but if you're on the aggressor side, there's an easy alternative (in principle anyway) - just GO HOME. Why go have your face burnt off when you can just GO HOME?

I think we need to clarify this. North Korea has helped Russia well by supplying millions of shells. And now Russia is helping North Korea by taking in several thousand selected soldiers to gain combat experience. At the front, where hundreds of thousands of people are fighting.

Sunflower food is sunflower food, Tovarish. All are welcome. Perhaps you can convince some of your other anti-social 'friends' to join them in the Glorious Meatgrinder? Iran's men and materiel would be happily processed there too.

This is a very sad commentary about Russians today. This country is in a very bad situation in terms of the 21st century. It reminds me of when I was 19 (54 years ago) , and traveled to the DDR and Hungary. The people there, especially in the DDR had similar viewpoints about Soviet leadership and the world beyond the Iron Curtain. It was a very sad situation at that time as well, but for god's sake, this is over a half century later. It is almost unbelievable that people could regress back to this type of blind nationalism thanks to propaganda from the Kremlin. Top down, vertical leadership has no place in the modern world except Russia, China and North Korea.
