In the case of LZJ, if had continued with cold spray, no matter what his ankle would have been worse after ; so safety first is indeed respected. Cold spray has been abused a lot and solutions must be found. On the other hand, speaking of safety first, by its rules, BWF forces players to do too much tournaments along the year leading to mental and physical exhaustion and finally injuries. (and to less quality tournaments in the end, VA had a few words about it for example)

It’d be interesting to see the actual implementation of this new rule on Medical Emergency Intervention - “The Tournament Doctor is now allowed to enter the court without the direction of the referee in case of suspected cardiac arrest….” It seems to put tournament doctors responsible to make that decision / move in such situation while it’s been all the while the referee’s responsibility. The reality is, the tournament doctors at many BWF sanctioned tournaments are sometimes physiotherapists or even nurses instead of real doctors. Suppose you are one of these tournament doctors, would you be comfortable to take such responsibility?

If I remember correctly, the whole idea of speeding up play time was to make it feasible for more live telecast and indirectly generate more sponsorship. But has this approach succeeded? Badminton has to gain popularity with good games first and foremost, excite the audience and money will come. With live streaming nowadays, longer playtime isn't an issue anymore, it would not affect the broadcaster's program. Just look at soccer and tennis, timeouts are common. The umpires and tournament referees should be given autonomy to use their discretion in deciding if treatment is needed, an injury is an injury, cardiac arrest or just a bruise. Get real Hoyer!

I think there should be a balance... I think treatment should still be given to the players however if the tournament doctors found that the players are faking it then one point is given to his opponent during the game. If they also found that the player has abused this rule, fines and point reduction (ranking) and also banning players from playing certain tournaments can be imposed. This will cause some players to think twice on abusing the rules...as it will affect their ranking and their ability to earn prize money as they are banned from tournaments...

I just read other comments. Some people said its better to give up than make the injures worst and takes longer to recover. Because spray is only to limit the pain and not heal the injures. There is one thing. Almost everybody want to win and go to the next stages and if possible win the tournament. Specially if the price get higher for each stages. For example(true story): I won the first set. On the 2nd set i got pain on my shoulder. I cannot smash as hard as on the first set. I want any treatment possible, like spray. To be able to perform without/ignore pain. As long as i can beat my opponents at that moment and go to the next stages. How many stage, i dont care. Higher is beter. Its my responsibility if my injure become worst on the next stage. After i got spray treatment i dont feel pain(temporally). I can push body and hit smashes as hard as the first set. Guess what, I won.

When implementing players don't care and protest it. What to do? Someone create another BWF? For those who have won, they give a s... About it?

if you see any games its ok to take some time if you are injured no games cares for this delay tactic as much as badminton what if that person takes a small 10 sec break even for 10 to 20 times only 200 sec 3min not that much loss of time

Getting the referee and doctor on court will mean about about a two minute delay. Players also spend 5-10 seconds getting ready to serve/receive. There are also delays when the court needs to be mopped. If you look at the length of matches where all the delays have been cut, compared to the full match, only about 30% of the time is used for playing.

for the sake of players heatlth, if they are injured, they should lose a match. No need to use spray/painkiller to continue play and make the injury worse. The healthier player should win.
