It has some design, but being this expensive, it's hard to justify it to me just on the basis of the materials used. Can't even say it's handmade. It is the ultimate price over substance balance. I am from Europe and i dont even know Balenciago, just googled it. I was into luxury fashion a while ago and every luxury laben like Gucci, Armani, Versaci etc.. have sneakers in their line. Hugo Boss, Bikkembergs and such brands as well but they are all not so expensive comapared to Balenciago. I have a bunch of Belstaff and Matchless Leatherjackets and the fascination about them is the heritage, quality and price, thats what make them unique. I have a feeling that it is only the high price in case of balenciago. Those sneakers from luxury brands are most of the time worse in quality compared to Adidas etc.. You pay just the brand name and design for your money. In case of real hand made leather shoes, which can also be bought for the price of a balenciago sneaker, you pay for the craftsmanship and high quality leather. Sneakers are not worth the money they charge, even Adidas or Nike are way to expensive, they are mass produced pieces made in China from cheaper materials.

I think that like any luxury item, the Triple S are possessing fetish value, that is, the value we assign to something because we are told it is valuable. The build quality is incredible, and the design, while contentious, is excellent at getting people to talk about it and notice the brand. But above all else, they are truly no different than your average Yeezy. The only difference is that while the barrier to entry on a Yeezy is the limited nature of its release, which becomes price when resale comes into play. The barrier to entry for Balenciaga is simply pricing. An 800$ balenciaga is functionally the same as a pair of Zebras that would go for the same thing resale. Taste in shoes is subjective, and as such, in the context of an argument about value, taste is essentially immaterial if the materials and build quality are comparable. Most I ever spent on a single pair of sneakers was $500 for some airmax 90 Warhawks. But I've owned ogs that were worth north of $1000. But I've also owned super fire pairs that I found at Ross for $40. And I rock them both the same. I wouldn't pay 850 for Balenciagas for the simple fact that they are ugly af, and anyone who says they're not ugly is lying. Price /= Dope.
