Here’s the difference when you purchase high end fashion brands. Gucci Sneakers: Materials can be exotic like stingray, snake skin or alligator. That particular leather is made from calf skin hide that has been tanned, then hand crafted by someone in Italy. You are paying for the craftsmanship and materials, I’m not saying it isn’t marked up for the brand name. I’m just saying that isn’t the whole factor, it’s unfair to compare Gucci or Giorgio Armani material use to a general release Jordan 1 for example.

Its simple, try a pair on and feel for it. If you like it and you think you wont go broke after buying it, go ahead. The only reason I see rare jordans with the less quality materials than these designer brand sneakers and retail for only $190-$250 that can reach $1000-$2000 in resell value is the significance in culture and the profitability after using it for a few times. People will always find ways and reasons to justify their purchase and thats not bad as long as it isnt getting unhealthy (ie financial instability, greed, etc).

I had some gucci samba styled shoe in hand on christmas. Leather was crazy. Supple soft bananas leather. I dont think a shoe for $150 will have anything like the quality of leather. Still crazy money for sneakers

I’m not a big fan of the big ugly “dad” shoes. I just don’t think I could pull these off with my style and I think they could date pretty badly and look like a fad quite soon. These in particular are not for me. I don’t like that basically all the design is the logo. I’m not a fan of logos anywhere, I prefer a cool designed item that discreetly has a brand name if you look close. With these it looks like you’re just shouting that you bought some expensive shoes.

FYI from my experience the original tennis was a more functional shoe,had several pairs in the 80’ so when they retro that style shoe a few years ago I coped every one the dropped.leather was magnificent but not a functional shoe at all more like a driving shoe/walking but not a real tennis shoe w/ class. The original I wore in every condition you could think off (maybe cause I had several pairs) but the retros you couldn’t even wear in the rain without something fucking up on them.
