Actually, California didn't lose a half million to people moving out of the state. It lost 871,127. They of course skew the total by adding in births, deaths and immigration. People choosing to leave the state is a lot higher. My house is in escrow and the ridiculous about of paperwork involved with selling a home here just lets me know I'm making the right decision. The home I bought in Florida had like 8 pages to the contract and disclosures. Here its over 50.

Simple. CA ruling class doesn't want middle income families living in CA. As an experienced technical professional with a family, there is no way I could afford to take a job requiring a move to CA even if my the offer was double my salary. CA rulers made it impossible to live there as a single income family, within a 2 hour commute of a tech job. CA tech companies now rely on H1B's that are willing to live 3 or 4 per bedroom in an apartment.

Tax, property price : They are main factors residents leave from California. Plus due to climate change, severe draught occurs every year. Actually in summer of 2022, residents in LA and Sanfrancisco suffered from scarce of tap water, so the government of states restricted them from using water for gardening in their home.

I left finally. The town of Redlands was just getting too out of control. The transients, crime, demographic shift, heat, and it is actually a bubble town! My new state is a head and shoulders above. However, it is more expensive here in Utah, everything from housing to insurance. Worth every penny though. Unless you're near the coast CA is still cheaper than a lot of these alternatives. Go figure.

I feel it some things are mis guided. I say that because what people vote on gets places on taxes to an extreme amount so it will fail. People can't afford to live here. I feel it's also because of greedy corporations buying up homes, raising home prices, and all that is being built here is condos, apartments, townhouses, duplexes and homes stuck next to each other.
