while a lot of modern cars (primarily SUVs and CUVs) look boxy at a first glance, if you actually inspect the designs & compare them to boxy designs made famous in the 60's & 70's, they're still incredibly curvy the trim accents & straight lines of where the body panels meet are what make these cars look much boxier than they actually are

Even Jeep knockoffs and run of the mill minivans don't get that bland in comparison. True SUVs are still given a pass but for the love of God make them smaller. I do think that it was the Suzuki Jimny that actually kickstarted this current '20s boxy trend. After 3 decades of being the typical 90s-2000s blobs, they went all-in on the retro boxy styling with the release of the JB74 in 2018. The styling is so retro that it even uses the old round headlights that used to be on every car back then. I've only started seeing more and more new cars with boxy styling ever since.

I really hope the people over at Mercedes look at how beautiful both exteriors and interiors of their 80s and 90s car were and lock in cause wtf have they been doing for the past few years ? From a technical standpoint they'll never be as good as they used to be, but I'd take at least that over whatever they're doing now... Just look at the W124, W126, W140, W201, all of these share many similarities but two very important common things, to this day they are all considered the best Mercedes-Benz cars ever made and they were all designed by Bruno Sacco - a designer and engineer who is basically considered the Steve Jobs of car design, he was hired as a Mercedes-Benz stylist in 1958 and was the head of styling of Mercedes-Benz cars from 1975 to 1999, he was a huge part of Mercedes-Benz and understood the brand very well, in his own words "A Mercedes-Benz must always look like a Mercedes-Benz" and it's sad that with every year Mercedes strays away from this quote.

I like boxy cars. Like flows is good, surely, I am a fan of 4th gen Camaro and Firebird, but bricks with wheels rock too. Like flows are good to show dynamic, they are sleek, fast, exciting. Bricks are good at reverse psychology, like you see it, and you think this thing will crumple the air on front of itself, this stuff must be really powerful.
@olly36913 күн бұрын
I did notice this design change, and besides the practical and visibility reasons mentioned, I believe the primary reason is actually the design itself. It seems to me that cars released after 2014 represent the pinnacle of automotive design-whether we're talking about the Mustang, BMW M4, M5, M8, RS5, RS6, RS7, Rolls Royce, Maybachs, Huracan, Aventador, Urus, Ferrari 458, 488, F8, 812, SF90, 911s, or all McLarens. In this vast sea of vehicles, there wasn't much left to improve to make them stand out significantly. In fact, the only car that still stood out was the G-Class because it didn't follow these rounded design rules. Perhaps automakers also noticed that even a 5-year-old G-Class, including the 350d model, still doesn't drop below $100k due to its unique presence and boxy design in a world of rounded, meticulously polished metals. btw, realy good video, keep going, humor and good copyrighting, hope you get big ass Fk, i hope to see a video in future roasting in the same manner your dream car you will recenlty buy it XDDD

The Problem with saying that Boxy Cars are Safer is a common misconception. Yes, the driver and passengers are safer due to the bigger crumple zone in the back and front of the car. What we neglect is to take pedestrians into consideration. With such a high motor block and sharp edges, there is a higher fatality and injury rate with boxy cars. Tl:dR Boxy cars are not safer and harm everyone around the car more then sleeker cars.

boxy cars keep their passengers safe but endanger everyone else on the roads who aren't in boxy suv's due to differences in car collision mass and crumple zones not aligning. boxy cars also can see further since they are raised higher but thereby have a more difficult time seeing things close to the front, since their front blind spot is significantly larger than that of a sedan. being raised higher results in a higher center of gravity which makes suv's and boxy cars much more prone to rollovers.
