I took home a 3 month old calico girl who'd been left on a road in the middle of the night, by someone cruel. One rear thigh was fractured due to an inflicted piercing. Though a vet repaired her leg well, she never had the confidence to try jumping any higher than 18 inches, up to a couch seat. If she ever saw me holding a clothes hanger, she would slink away in dread. Her past trauma had continued to haunt her. She remained my pampered indoor pet to the end of her life at age 14.

My cat hides when there are strangers around but will go outside in bad weather. My son’s cat cowers and hide when a storm is coming but is quite happy to meet strangers. Yes, cats can be fearful too. They, like we, are all different.

I found a kitten living under a stairway in an old building with crusty eyes. I took her home and gave her to my stepson who was 7. That cat was the meanest nastiest thing, she wasn't afraid of anything, the God awful noises that cat made snarling at people. A bunch of times she jumped the fence in the back yard to attack the neighbor's dogs. Such a vicious little thing she was. But my stepson could pick her up, play with her, do anything, she slept with him every night, washed his face, she just loved and trusted him so much, it was unreal

My cat is a Spock fan and doesn’t know it. He being that he was living feral in my apartment complex as an older kitten he became wise to the world around him, was unafraid to approach people most who who would pet and or give him water and food. One evening he followed me as I walked back to my apartment as he had done a few times, this time he didn’t stop and hide in the bushes he followed me right into my apt. I saw he had some injuries, I know dogs don’t know much about cats but I saw wounds on his legs and above his eyes. I dressed the wounds gave him water and some chicken, called a cat rescue and found out that they only take in kittens 4 to 6 mos max and so it goes with the shelters too due to a major glut of feral cats in O C. So once he started healing and I got assistance from the maintainance man who is a cat whisperer himself. I set up the basics began to collect boxes, and got decent food for him. He thrived as I got family and friends looking for a cat home because we are all allergic to cats, but to no avail. Meanwhile little Figaro the tuxedo cat thrived I took him to vet found out he was older than the 8 mos I thought he was, that he’s now about two and domesticated himself in a month which astonished the maintainance man! He will go towards people when they come and visit, as he does with small dogs and most kids. Hes reserved about large cats as that must have been who injured him. He does not like mushy food or apparently grasses too. He will watch if I’m cleaning only runs from large machines and loud noises. Otherwise he will stand, asses, then take action even when it comes to new food, unless it’s raw then he goes into tiger mode! So I guess I got lucky with this one but still it’s been one heck of a learning curve for sure Captain Kirk!

The way it has been explained to me is that cats are in the middle of the food chain - they're both prey and predator. That's why they are afraid and nervous.

I have a cat, and I can definitely say for sure that loud noises freak them out! I live on the second floor and my bedroom window is not too far from the street below, so sometimes when a car or truck goes by that is too loud she panics, and when they set off fireworks in the church parking lot next door on the 4th of July she runs and hides in the closet. I will go and get her out of the closet and bring her into the bedroom and put her under the covers in bed with me and I'll just pet her and hug her and talk to her and tell her everything's okay.

Thanks for the video. I'd appreciated comments on what I'm about to type . Speaking of a cat's fear, my beloved dark silver / black tiger stripped short haired tabby cat I've had over 4 years since he was a month old feral kitten, I made a huge mistake that my have cost my dear cat his life. My cat, named Mikey has been closely bonded with me from the beginning, sleeping on my bed, taking naps next to me on the chair, etc. A few months ago, I started feeding a male stray cat who'd show up at the cat's dinner time and crying outside the window. He looked and acted like he was around a year old . He seemed a little too friendly to be feral and didn't look overly skinny. He acted like he was starving, so I'd take some food outside to him, ( I named him Charley) checked around the rural area I live in for possible owners. I didn't catch everyone at home but for the one's I contacted, they said they didn't know anything about him. Still, I had a feeling that he belonged to someone, as he'd disappear and just show up at dinner time to eat with my other 2 cats ( Mikey's brother and sister) . All three are indoor / outdoor cats, and spent time outside as kittens with their wonderful mother, who taught them survival skills. This was the last year of my old residence before I moved to another rural area in a different state. Since taking in 3 kittens of the litter of 5, all three of mine have been fixed. Getting back to a few months ago, It didn't take long before Charley the stray started coming in and making himself at home. One time he came over and even looked like he'd been recently brushed. My cats tolerated Charley OK, but that's about it. Charley began spraying around the area so I knew I needed to get him fixed, although I still wondered about him having an owner. He started getting aggressive with Mikey, so I planed on putting notes in people's mailboxes to try and locate an owner. I think he targeted Mikey because he sensed that Mikey and I were bonded the closest. Mikey as afraid of him, as I saw his dilated eyes, lowered ears, hissing, growling etc. I'd never seen Mikey afraid of anything before ! I really liked Charley, he was friendly and playful......but......he then started to stalk him, with Mikey protesting loudly. I ran Charley off and brought Mikey inside. Although I liked Charley, I'd had enough with his going after Mikey and debated whether to take Charley in to be fixed or just take him to a shelter for someone else to adopt him. I couldn't decide and another day went by. The next night, April 10th, 2024, we had some bad storms come through. Mikey went outside and never returned. I was worried when Mikey didn't show up for dinner. My immediate hunch was that Charley ran Mikey off into the surrounding woods. It's very difficult terrain for a human to navigate through, with steep grades and very thick vegetation. I waited a couple days and took Charley to an adoption shelter. I really blew it. If I had taken immediate action when Charley began showing aggression to Mikey, Mikey would probably not be missing. Instead, I procrastinated. I'm devastated by this. I'm extremely worried about him and there's a huge hole in my soul missing. This is hard to take. I hope no one else ever experiences the pain of making a mistake like I did.

I hope Mikey comes back- maybe he will now that Charley is gone.
@jimdep6542
@jimdep6542 18 күн бұрын
@@susanplank1976 Thanks Susan. That was / is my hope too. I kept Charlie for almost a week before taking him to the shelter; thinking that he knew were Mikey went and would lead him to me. The problem was that Charley wouldn't let me follow him if he knew that I was behind him. He'd stop and come to me. I tried to follow him without him knowing but that was about impossible. I think that my keeping him for those extra days was a mistake, because that might have been the window of time that Mikey might have returned if knowing that Charlie was gone. I felt guilty about taking Charlie to a shelter also, because I felt that he was being punished for something that wasn't his fault. It way my fault for not getting him fixed, and then maybe he wouldn't have been aggressive toward Mikey. I also procrastinated because if I spent the money to get him fixed, the what if that didn't make any difference ....then I'd be out the money and have to pay even more take him a shelter anyway. So......while hesitating because of money, my precious Mikey was run off.........this is really hard to cope with. I just returned again from searching close to home but it's been raining since last night.....still drizzling and more rain expected. Thanks again for your encouragement !

@@jimdep6542 Please let us know if you find him. Maybe it wasn't Charlie's doing. If there were some trust worthy people willing to help you on searching, might do good. And if he was chipped, then he might find himself in the shelter and they'd call you? How does Charlie look?
@jimdep6542
@jimdep6542 9 күн бұрын
@@katula14 Thank you for responding ! It may not have been Charlie's doing, so I wasn't sure if taking Charlie to a shelter was the right thing to do. Charlie didn't show any signs that he'd been in a cat fight, so I thought it was doubtful that he fatally injured Mikey. I was also thinking, however that maybe it was because of Charlie that Mikey wouldn't come home as long as he was still around the property. I decided to take hm in and the good news is that he was been adopted. That was hard to do also. I miss him too, but not nearly as much as I miss and mourn for Mikey. Charlie would be a great cat to bond with someone who could give him attention that he wouldn't have to share with other cats. It would have been nice if someone living around here would volunteer to help me look for Mikey, but no one has. He wasn't chipped, but I have contacted the two closest county shelters in the area and sent them hiis picture along with description. I opened a Facebook account for the sole purpose of getting Mikey posted and also put Mikey in the Craigslist lost & found. I will certainly keep you posted here on any new events. Thank you !
