What you are actually describing, is the relational nature of the human mind. Like you described how you get stressed, is by comparing yourself to others. This is the stress of fear of loss of relationship. You do all these things to be part of the group, you compare yourself to others and think if you do not do all these things, you would not be accepted. And not being accepted would signal loss of relationship, and the most dangerous situation possible of being alone. Your dog would also become scared if you the relationship to his owner would be in danger. But your dog does not evaluate its relationship based on the same metrics as you do. Your dog instead follows your orders and does not transgress you, in order to keep the relationship. This is psychoanalysis, object relations theory. It also explains people who are not able to stop thinking, its called obsessive neurosis.
